Boccaccio 70 - 8/10 Liked Fellini's and Visconti's segments, De Sica was only passable
Besides that it was old Trier's weekend: The Element of Crime, Epidemic, Europa and Medea. They all get a 10/10. I came from hating this guy when he became fashionable in Poland (around the time The Kingdom played in theatres) to loving his work now. I just can't find a flaw in any of his films.

The Constant Garden - 5/5
Possibly makes one question the voracity of drug companies, not to spoil the film for those who haven't seen it already.
Also, it's a nice alternative to recent Hollywood revamps of older films.

Tarkovsky - Ivan's Childhood - 9/10
It's the best film about war I can recall. Don't expect much action.
Kubrick - The Killing - 7/10
Nice pre-Pulp Fiction interleaving of plots, but apart from the gimmick, there is nothing interesting in this one.

Battle of algiers is waiting in the "to watch" folder. I had a terrible time finding a decent rip.
I didn't like "Idi i smotri" too much. The "oh my god, how the world can be so cruel" frames with the kid's bewildered face ruined it for me. But it's only my problem, the movie is undoubtedly a great one.

Onibaba (Kaneto Shindo) 5/5 - amazing early japanese horror film
Aguirre: The Wrath of God (Werner Herzog) 6/5 - i've just decided Herzog is the best director alive
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Tim Burton) 2.5/5 - Dissapointing
Down By Law (Jim Jarmusch) 5/5 - can't wait to see broken flowers!
The Sun (Aleksandr Sokurov) 3/5 too slow and subtle, and not in a good way like Tarkovsky...
Crash (Paul Haggis) 3/5
- i'm divided on this one, a little melodramatic and contrived in parts but compared to most movies coming out of America this is one of the best i've seen for a while.
Last Life in the Universe (Pen-Ek Ratanaruang) 4.5/5 - You'll never want to watch Lost in Translation again after seeing this, this is how it should be done, amazing film and amazing ambient soundtrack!

The Manchurian Candidate (1962) - A weak 8/10 or a strong 7/10. Sinatra's acting and some plot inconsistencies were big cons.
Pantalaimon, you'll change your mind about Herzog when you see his newer movies like "The Invincible". "Aguirre" however is outstanding.

Pantalaimon, I have a question about Sokurov's "Solntse". Did you watch it in a cinema or did you have english subtitles for the rip available in the internet. The reason I ask is that I won't be able to watch it before next July on a film festival here (I'm sure it won't be screened in normal theatres) and I cannot wait that long.

Dolls - 5/5
Takeshi Kitano has made the most agonizingly beautiful story of unrequited love that i have ever seen. This movie was pure Kitano, subtle and melancholy. 'Dolls' is similar to Kikujiro but far more heartbreaking. I loved it.
