i switched it over to search all xlt posts. it's a minimum
of six characters and you'll get a max of 50 results and
wildcards won't work so it's still of limited use. which
means it may not kill the server

it's also not bothering to fill in the metadata and it's all
"posted by user # in thread #" and that's not hard to
program the computer to fill in, i simply want to see if it
shits its pants first with just this.

Money for discordogs.com?

Over the past 23 years we've helped thousands of businesses
receive more than $37 billion in tax incentives and refunds
that they didn't even know existed.

We will evaluate you 100% for free and find you money that
you didn't know you had coming to you.

So we're literally talking free money here.

Visit the link below and see in under 2 minutes if you
qualify for anything.

...

and i'm on my own website and with how i've set the font in
that textbox it simply reads "Money for discordogs.com?" and
i lol pretty hard and think "good luck with that buddy"

that was a great idea, thx wolfslice

how do we feel about a cron job that's like "xltronic post

random post and it's on a box on the site all week

i'm glad i've hit on something that's actually appreciated

i cut music off like a gangrenous finger because this shit
will put me out of a place to live if i keep going, quite
literally. then my emotionally abusive mother comes down
with alzheimers, moves cross-country without even saying
goodbye, and i cannot describe how much that is STILL
fucking me up.

then fuck it, let's go after money, and i realize all my
weasel/science stuff is in the way and i try to kill it and
this sends me into a class of neurochemical event you want
to avoid at all costs

[in fact -- any of my memory i'm having trouble with is a
combination of [that, severe emotional trauma from mum, and
years of overdoing on booze because of years of emotional
trauma from mum]]

so i cannot get rid of weasels and science? and music is
already out? i started talking to academics [really!] and
found that is an even bigger pile of shit than music. and
patents are a fucking joke that only help billionaires now.
the best i can do finding a job in "science" is to go work
for philips corporation and help them avoid getting sued for
giving people cancer [because that's cheaper than simply not
giving them cancer]

so this is some sort of weird art/magick project centering
around XLT, and that pile of weasel writing, and, i dunno,
my love of CSS border styles and UNIX as a form of
self-exploration + expression.

you lot never have never really gotten a proper technical
effort out of me. but maybe that is a better approach

if i had to squint and peg it -- there should be something
about the overall feel of the design that pulls back
nostalgic memories of a 'zine, i suppose.

but then if you squint, you also see how i've been taking
care to make sure this works on a phone internet as well as
a desktop internet, because i'm not trying to create an
anachronism. i'm trying to salvage how we feel about some of
that, i suppose, and make it relevant today.

thad's canoe was me sitting down and trying to write a track
for the board, but it's tied down with all sorts of personal
percepts like memories of summer camp and, actually, the
writing will be more relevant to you lot in general and
that's simply how it be

a few posts away on ars technica from the story on the guy
who coined "tech singularity" [dying on the same day this
domain] is renewed and i'm writing on the 19th about how the
domain expires and... a few posts away from this is "Dogs’
brain activity shows they recognize the names of objects"
and i've always felt that the act of naming something is
effectively equivalent to creating it somehow. that
"nevenen" is a middle english word meaning "to say, tell,
express, esp. the truth" but also "to give a name to" and i
found this when i was like 17 on the internet and it became
my music name for these over 20 years simply after it passed
trent reznor's advice: wait a week and if you still like it.
i waited longer, but the other candidate i had was "androids
on acid" even though it'd be a few years before even tried
psychedelics yet. the domains, i believe, registered on the
same day. then finally jeff antebi of waxploitation is
telling me AOA sounds too fucking high school and ok,
nevenen it is

and the article art for this dog article is a welsh corgi
with a bunch of electrodes connected to his skull smiling
and sitting in the lap of a woman and presumably her child,
who is wearing a shirt with a stylized image of a dog giving
me vibes of magritte's "this is not a pipe" and given that
ein was a datadog in cowboy bebop and i'm kind of on a whole
retro vibe here, this fits perfectly below the image of
serial experiments lain already present. same as how i was
like "i have literally a dozen photoshops of that billy
corgan image we did on the yugo forums together" then i'm
just "that one" and "it goes ABOVE the serial experiments
lain image" and yes, i love it, it looks like corgan's brain
ouroboros melds seamlessly into the wires, that's clearly
why i knew that was the right image

this is instead of music and it's arguably more in sync with
what people can appreciate, arguably. but i'm just following
my nose

i found this when i was like 17 on the internet

and weasel brain would add that i precisely recall this was
in the high school computer lab, deliberately mining a
middle english dictionary for potential band names. that i
can take you to the precise spot in physical space. at a
high school reunion i found the computer lab is now the
student lounge and there's a giant oil painting of one of
the teachers i remember from high school done up like he's
shakespeare and it was fucking brilliant

but, anyways, weasel brain would like to point out there has
never not been a time in my life when i could tell you all
of this, the lab, the exact place the particular computer
was, my agenda when i found it, and from there i'd have to
work out why i was searching a middle english dictionary
but... yes, this was because lord of the rings was in the
theaters and i'd read it for the first time and i was taking
a stab at learning elvish before concluding it wasn't for
me, and a bit later a blob of that collided with the school
requiring latin class and my genuine interest in word roots
and it came out of that

but that's bullshit thread material sry

two seats over where i got stuck on AOA and, i think read
reznor's advice in the same sitting. either that or the
night before. not sure

part of what i added to discordogs yesterday was... i swear
i made this same snide joke about an HP thinkjet being
infected mushroom's secret weapon synth. but there is really
a lot of love in this. my first printer i ever had was an HP
thinkjet. and then i made this joke, i suspect, in 2014,
when i first noticed the cardiod shape of the air in between
giving me the sense of a mushroom-shaped room, and then i'm
thinking about the gaps in between sounds and i come back to
a printer that i still have a deep emotional soft spot for.
and when they do that thing that sounds like a dot matrix
printer, there is something in that, even if it's not
directly printing thought. then it's today i'm realizing i
had a trippy feeling because i think i picked the exact same
dingy HP thinkjet on an oriental carpet image i picked in
2014 and that would explain the feeling

so i knew i'd made the joke before somewhere for sure, then
i go to doing it up on the site and i think i literally
managed to dredge the precise same picture out of image
search that i selected as "perfect" ten years ago and that's
simply because it is.

same picture

it's 2024 and discordogs.com needs to be up on #a11y and so
i am now gradually adding image alt tags to translate to an
accessible experience for the blind as best i can.

this requires some mental flexibility and i am enjoying it.
the overall HTML is a rat's next but if you're limited of
eyesight the tab order should already have you wasting none
of your life digging around

i mean, it'll be a mess for the blind if you try and browse
this site. and there's so much about it that is unarguably
visual-or-context-lost. so then i'm simply squinting at and
saying "this will come out as total salad, viewing this
without eyes, but maybe, with the right touches, it can add
up into the same thing" and amongst the odd technical
insight out of this is "well maybe it's wrong to simply try
and translate corporate.com to code that will be [blind
accessible, lou gehrig's eye tracking usable, etc] that you
need to accept it will never be a literal translation and
you have to take a moment and reinterpret the experience,
accepting that it will never all completely get there, and
what can we manage still?"

other updates include the stussy guy [but fuck off, i'm not
putting no horse teef on that page], a very likely redux of
a satisfied apple vision pro [mkII!] customer, and more
AI-generated spam about cross-platform and UNIX and gender
and my feelings are captured by this man from the third or
so episode of "the equalizer" as he attempts to disappear
himself into the biscuits and crisps when confronted with
THE EQUALIZER …. dark souls builds … AI generated clowns

The advert is a bit like how I smelt. "It takes
courage to embrace your extraordinary
" intones Driver,
presumably fluffing his line. Nobody would have written
that, surely?

Nobody would have written that, surely?

well -- clearly -- you have never worked in marketing
or PR. for the latter, your entire job is meetings; sitting
there and arguing about optics and how to manipulate the
[t]optics to your your advantage.

marketing is a whole infrastructure atop of this, with
interns grinding out someone's proposed pitch angle and
39/40 of these get thrown right in the garbage skip without
even getting past more than 2-3 meetings

and this is some weird cruel brain powered on, like,
computing the answer to get you to buy what i believe the
french call "toilet water" if you translate it [but then i
even know toileţ or whatever is simply the LOWEST GRADE of
perfume to the french and even this is marketing, like, do
you want the toilet water or the good stuff? OBVIOUS CHOICE
RIGHT? pay up]

so by the time that slogan is compiled by, likely, what is a
human hive mind, you've had entire meetings about...
well, what are the values of this smell. and after a month
of arguing and discarded intern research, well... COURAGE.
that's what our smell is about. but we can't just have usual
courage, and after another month we need EXTRAORDINARY
COURAGE and then six months later someone wakes up from a
dream and realizes you need to flip this all around and you
fucking have it, "courage to embrace the extraordinary" and
this gets the jab promoted and a more expensive loft but by
the time it gets out the door two months of meetings have
used the hive mind to tune the grammar, to embrace YOUR
extraordinary, to make it psychologically more engaging as a
slogan

so in a sense: totally. no one wrote that -- it was a hive
mind constructed of pure bullshitting.

i haven't watched the advert yet. i figured it'd be more fun
to dash all this off before i see what they've put into
that, and thus, i suppose, how correct i was [or not]

in any case, i'm rather not feeling sections "psychedelic
near misses best-of 2007-8" because i only have two or three
and then that html table will be kicked. i don't actually
have a list of defensively heterosexual band names to put up
on the page, but that's still a solid back-burner idea.
instead, i'm thinking it's very important i collate a list
of know octopi

me laid" and he's in a relationship and it doesn't even
matter, old habits simply die hard. and i'd be a bloody liar

i mean, allow me to go absolute aspie [simulated] on this:
you're not simply wearing cologne as a habit. you're trying
on new cologne at a mall, indicating this is an
evolving and experimental process, e.g. you're still trying
stuff out to see if anything works better. and if you're in
a relationship, someone knows how you smell when you wake up
after missing a shower the last days, and what's the point
in hiding it? and yes, always keep trying in a relationship,
but the scent ship has sailed and she's either into it or
not. and it's more like teenage roger coming back for a

i recently proposed, by extension, that [quantum stuff
aside] we likely cannot create AI without, actually, some
sort of backflow, due to the nature of intelligence. that we
cannot do the full sci-fi AI without... well, understanding
how? and if we understand how that works, how can it not
influence how we think? meaning the mere act of developing
an A[G]I will, yes, create at least some backflow simply
because you have to in order to achieve that sort of
equivalency at all. to have us deliberately whip it up; not
let the whole planet compute it as a whole.

it gets me thinking about, perhaps... oh, early as 2005 i
was screaming "DRM IS AN ATTEMPT TO VIOLATE THE LAWS OF
PHYSICS" and the analog hole [great name for a bar!] and i
can't make a proper mathematical presentation of my point,
dammit, but i feel like you can never totally copy-protect
anything; make piracy impossible. someone can always just
pull out their phone and get a degraded version and you
cannot ever possibly stop it

and perhaps there is, actually, some sort of [pen]ultimate
sideband channel attack, that effectively goes: learning
more about me will influence your own actions, and if you
keep going, i will learn more about you whether i want to or
not. that would be fascinating

if you went back and time and destroyed that particular

birds have a terrible sense of smell, to the point of...
"...if you could even call it that" in some. isn't that kind
of strange and fascinating? because what animal
doesn't usually have a good sense of smell; better
than us?

someone recently won the nobel prize [i think] for finally
imaging it and cracking how the sensors work. but long
tangent

even lower down, pretty much any cell anywhere has same
basic array of chemical sensors [as a single-celled
organism, you need to know when to swim away from toxic
goop]

the avian telencephalon evolved along totally different
path. birds wired around vision, sound, and proprioception
instead [they would have to think in 3D somewhat to fly
proper, right?]

i think everyone kind of inherently understands "smells can
bring back memory like nothing else" and while our vision is
keener [we've evolved better vision on top of smell] it's
not our daily [adam] driver... not as relevant, but still
there. especially for deeper mechanisms like sex that are
still inherently chemical

there was a smell some men would wear sometimes. bothered me
for years -- eventually i figured out it's "'Lectric Shave"
stuff you put on your face as a prep step for using an
electric razor.

i bought a bottle after who knows how many years to try it
out [and yes, actually, it really does fucking help]

then, as soon as i open it: "OH THIS IS WHAT THAT SMELL IS,
WOW FINALLY!" ...as i get back an image of my dad shaving in
the bathroom when i was ~4 years old

within a year or two he'd decided electric razors could fuck
off forever. he never used them much to start. so that one
moment was really what haunted me for years until i sorted
it

there is probably a competing product, but i don't care,
i'll keep it for the smell. it reminds me of my dad.

and it actually makes a difference shaving or i'd not bother
[but it won't work on short hairy jewish men, who should
avoid electric razors entirely]

but you see how that fucking product got me, yes? just a
vague ancient memory of my dad one of the few times he still
bothered with an electric and once i found myself interested
in the utility of such a product i was effectively locked in
to that particular brand

come to think of it i never actually made a conscious
decision about the brand of shaving cream i buy

if you start tearing into yourself like that, you will find
stacks and stacks of.... shit, that simply got me, i never
actually made the choice to be absolutely, blindly loyal to
this brand. i just carried it over from dad because that's
what dad did

there's so much in there already you'll not possibly be able
to tear all that corporate marketing out of yourself, ever.
you've been colonized, like herpes

because even our tangents need tangents. i've never paid too
much attention to smells in general; it's not a sense i've
put a lot of work into. except, i can tell you all sorts of
things about a strain of weed from how it smells, even when
how it physically looks is arguably a lie

that it even gets into the strain names and the connection
between the name and the smell and the result. this strain
"cheese" really does... taste/smell like cheese... and
that's kind of gross? and it's really strong but in that
chemical unpleasant way you get when you've selected out too
many of the lesser-known cannabinoids. so when i have a
sniff now, and "oh, that's got a whiff of cheese to it," i
say: "this smells like a solid backup, but what else do you
have first?"

then weed is a very female drug, about associations, and the
smells go to certain places... well, already roger
understands what i mean, i'm sure

i've finally put together a basic list of known octopi and
already it's quite long with tendrils all about

i know i'm fucking nailing this list of octopi because,
like... ellen... de-gene-res? aphasia? this is
how my brain says it's spelled but it is it really spelled
like that? and fuck me, yes it is. ellen de-gene-rez

i've added both [The Kock Brothers, George Sores] to the
list of known octopi at once. taylor swift (with some help
from banker dad) lives next to Scooter Braun [because
they're no fucking different, thank you very much] and then
next we have Daniel Ek and then [Saul Rubeman?] character in
ST:TNG where he tries to turn Data into a pet and so
obviously next comes Sam Altman on the list

and i would like to stop and make the point that i see no
categories when i fire my shotgun
