i beat Twilight Princess yesterday, managed to find all the
Heart Containers, bottles, what-have-you, without a guide.
The latter half of the game has some very intriguing
dungeons.

I was hoping you'd get to collect things in this game.
Preferably, some part of the level would be inaccessible
until you collected a certain number of things.

nice, im about 23 hours in
im finding it quite easy to say the least...

to me, majoras mask was the best so far.

i also enjoyed majora's mask, though few others did. the
time engine really added a nice challenge to it.

i didnt enjoy the time engine, and some of it was lame.
definetely wasnt anywhere near as nice or classic as
ocarina....
however, yeah i still enjoyed it at the time. it was weird
and dark enough to differ from from ocarina, plus i was
little and wouldve liked anything.

yes, ocarina was a hard act to follow. did you ever play
minish cap? really kiddy, but very well designed.

i'm probably going to get a X360 eventually too, anyways. If
not for Gears of War and Oblivion, then definitely for the
ability to download Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one
of the best games ever made.

nope, except i plan to, soon. i only ever had a gameboy
colour, and that broke so, so i need some sort of gameboy,
and i plan on getting minish cap since i really enjoyed
links awakening and the oracle games.

The Minish Cap is great. i'm sitting at the door of the last
boss, Vaati, and have been for a while.

i'll pick it back up after i beat Majora's Mask which is
what i'm playing right now. great game that one. the time
thing took some getting used to, but it's easy to deal w/.
i've got so much damn money in the bank. you just keep
dropping it in like the days left over change and a couple
hours later you're rolling in it.

Majora's mask is very complicated and dark, which makes it
appealing to me... it's not as good as ocarina, but close.
Minish cap was fun, and a respectable entry to the series,
but I honestly can't remember much about it anymore...

it's good that you can store a surplus of money, since you
have to restock your bombs and arrows at the beginning of
every 3-day cycle. Thankfully, there was that 200 rupee
chest on the way to the observatory that you could always
pilfer for more cash.

(i love the fact that it still has the same music from
ocarina)

it took me over 50 hours to do it, getting heart containers
and bugs.

The bugs aren't hard to find. Check these areas for the
pairs:

Bridge of Eldin
Great Hylian Bridge
North Hyrule Field
Field north of Ordona
West Hyrule Field (where you fight the guys on piggyback)
Waterfalls at Lake Hylia (including Upper Zora's River)
Gerudo Desert
Graveyard in Kakariko Village
East Hyrule Field
Temple of Time Entrance at Sacred Grove
South Hyrule Field (right outside entrance)
Field Southeast of Kakariko Village

i absolutely adore it! this Wii is a real pleasure to play
with, a whole new way of gaming. Zelda is trully capturing,
im at the deat mountain already and scared to continue as
its pretty easy to beat, and it dont want this to end. so i
play Call of duty 3 in the mean time, best FPS i've played
thanx to the controls, although HALO 2 is pretty close

I'm considering getting a wii just for this. Still debating
though. Can anyone whos already played it tell me more about
the control scheme? Is it fun enough to compensate for the
dated graphics?

well the graphics are pretty amazing even though it wont be
comparable to the PS3 of course... the controls are
unbelievable, that's what this console is all about, you've
got a sensor that you place above or at the base of your
t.v. and a remote+ nunchuk. The nunchuk is a sort of
joystick which feels so naturaL. The vibrations + extra
speaker in the remote makes for an even better experience.
What's made though is that the sensor is so strong that even
a wrist movement is noticeable. To golf, you do golf
movements, to box same thing, and so on!!! I reckon it's
really worth it. Dont wait for the overpriced PS3! Get
yourself a Wii and an Xbox360 which will result in the same
price as the PS3

i would say so, even if it is unfair to compare a fifth-gen
game to a seventh-gen game. it's for sure the best game on
the Wii right now, and apparently the sequel to it has been
in "deep development" for over a year already.

zelda has the most fine-tuned use of the Wii Remote out of
any of the games. Move with the nunchuk, using a basic
control stick, but sword swinging is done simply by
"slashing" with the Wii Remote, and Spin Attacks are done by
swinging the nunchuk left or right. You don't have to flail
like a madman to do it either, you can lean back and use
more subtle movements to execute moves. The bow is pretty
self-explanatory, use the Wii Remote to aim and fire it,
however if you hold Z when not targeted and using the bow,
you can now strafe, of all things, while shooting. Not big,
but it's a nice little extra.

I'd say the boss of Arbiter's Grounds (Dungeon Four) was my
absolute favorite.

different style, but absolutely wonderfuL! a real classic.
gotta like FPS games though, and also killing nazis. :P

i still havent bought this even though i've had the wii
since januari now. I know i'll be hooked instantly, and i
have some cube games i'm playing at the moment, so i'm
saving this little gem for later.

Until then, the wii was totally worth the money for wii
sports alone. That game is the blast.

nah, not missing out at all. GameCube version is actually
the way it's supposed to be played. in Wii version you have
a fairy as a cursor from the Wiimote beam, and the whole
game is a mirror of the GameCube in accordance w/ most
people being right handed and holding the remote w/ that
hand as the sword.

i've seen demo screen shots where there is a magic bar under
the hearts but there is no magic in the game. even the magic
armor runs on rupee power.

I want to like this game like I did before, but I've just
noticed how underpopulated it is. And why don't the Zoras
have houses? And why aren't the Gorons mining? And why do
the villages (apart from castle town) have so few characters
mingling around? I wouldn't mind if I couldn't interact with
ALL of them, but it'd help if the places had a bigger sense
of "aliveness".

my initial excitement kind of melted away with the first
dungeon. it seemed really dull and somehow seemed to be
missing the soul that inhabited the previous zeldas. i'm
about 10 hours into the game now, having finished the first
and second dungeons. objectively speaking, both were pretty
dang good dungeons, but i feel like i've played them before
in better games. the parts of twilight princess i enjoy the
most are the ones that take a chance with something new,
like all the wolf bits. those are currently the only
experiences that are really keeping me playing. however,
i've heard that the game picks up exponentially after the
third dungeon, and with there being nine dungeons in the
game it looks like i have a *lot* to look forward to.

so far i'd give it an 8/10.

offline optimus prime on 2007-05-28 19:52 [#02088486]

the only thing that truly bothers me about the game is the
amount of glitches, mostly dealing with the enemies and the
camera. i've come across enemies who get stuck in rocks and
do nothing but vibrate furiously until you kill them, and
the camera can give me a literal headache sometimes, with
the way it bounces around when you're trying to control it
while climbing vines and such. at least the camera is
nowhere near as nausea-inducing as okami.

outside of some infamous examples, i can't think of many
nintendo games as unpolished as this one is. you can tell
miyamoto wasn't as involved with twilight princess as he was
with the other zeldas.

Honestly, I found the game cookie-cutter bland. Just like
Wind Waker, though at least that game looked beautiful. TP's
overworld was almost as barren and bland as Ocarina of Time,
though at least that game was from 3D's infancy and thus had
a good excuse.

Good thing Twilight came out BEFORE the the masterpiece that
is Mario Galaxy. Zelda needs another Majora's Mask-esque
installment.

good its not just me then, i'm halfway through the second
dungeon and i'm thinking of giving up, the game mechanics
are too simple and there is no 'fun' in playing it now...

Luckily i've got Mario Galaxy and i've ordered Metroid Prime
3 as i loved the first Prime on the Gamecube, I loved the
locations in Prime 1 that were quite desolate and
atmospheric, especially Chozo Ruins i think... I guess the
new one is a bit different but hoping its not a
disappointment.

Mario Smash bros is out soon too, never played them before

Of all the (major) zeldas, twilight princess is the most
conservative, but I think it does all it does very well,
making it one of my favourites in terms of dungeon design
and scope.

The whole point about the Wii generation of games, for
nintendo, is to forget about, and flat out deny, the
GameCube generation of first party titles - both Zelda and
Mario are presented as if Windwaker and Sunshine never
existed in the first place! This is ironic, considering that
the game mechanics of the new zelda and mario games borrow
heavily from their GC predecessors. Anyway, I think there's
some truth to the idea that Wii is sort of an updated
GameCube, with remote capabilities and better marketing.
That's why they are denying their own history.

(P.S. 1000 points, do I get an extra life?)

in what way is Mario Galaxy "denying" that Sunshine
existed?

and how can they be forgetting about Wind Waker if they just
made a sequal to it, even if it is on the DS?

and what do you mean by conservative?

i mean you've got some interesting ideas, i just don't
understand them.

Mario galaxy is more a sequel to mario 64 than mario
sunshine... this is pretty obvious. Most of the ideas
introduced in sunshine were not developed further in this
game but were ignored or heaped in the dustbin. Of course
sunshine still exists, but it's not a landmark game for them
to be constantly remaking. They got what they wanted, too:
Everybody is comparing Galaxy to Mario 64. They achieved
this by simply forgetting about Sunshine's innovations.

The DS zelda game is a fun little thing, but they would
never have done a Wii game using the wind waker model (with
Seafaring, cel-shaded graphics and exaggerated figures),
simply because they needed a fresh break with the recent
past. The conscious decision to search out for Ocarina for
inspiration (going as far as copying over a couple of
villages!) was a calculated move to go back to a more
'serious' style. This is also what I mean by Twilight
Princess being 'conservative' - it doesn't take too many
risks (although I like the wolf-morphing) but relies on
Ocarina's well-established form, of which game the new zelda
is almost a remake.

They want to be able to say: 'We can still make games like
Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time'. This meant that they had to
sideline the generation between Wii and 64, go back to their
roots, or heyday, or whatever. This is their marketing
strategy as much as a stylistic choice.

This is hardly a radical idea, simply a casual observation.
Nintendo is all about continuity, but some High Points are
more prominent and frequented than others.
