I feel like they caved in to pressure and got rid of the
gorgeous Wind Waker style because N-bots just wanted teh
mach00r Zelda. They wanted OoT 2.0, they got it, a slight
rejiggering of an antiquated game and formula. I feel dumb
for busting a nut over its unveiling now.

Mario Galaxy feels different though. Sunshine is left behind
where it belongs... but so is Mario 64. SMG is more linear
and pure and focused... it's almost exactly the Mario
game I wanted after playing those brilliant Sunshine bonus
levels that eschewed exploration and pointless collectathons
and just let you platform. It feels more like classic 2D
Mario in 3D rather than the sandbox style of Mario 64.

i really love all of them so i've got no complaints, except
Mario 64 DS was kind of a bad idea. i don't like controlling
the thing. it was meant for a real controller.

yea I think I agree with your point about Galaxy, and about
the bonus levels of Sunshine... I think Galaxy draws on many
roots, including Mario 3 and 64, plus it's sufficiently
innovative to be more than a nostalgia trip.

but I would not go as far as to say wind waker is a superior
release to twilight princess; it had so many flaws and
pacing issues. Its quirky presentation gave rise to many
quirky problems, as well.

I agree, TP > WW, gameplay wise. TP's a solid game, tried
and true to a fault. I guess I'm mostly talking about the
change in artistic style. People complained about the cel
shading and in hindsight... just wow. Don't get me started
on WW's inept game design, but it was so beautiful.

Plus the graphic whore in me was kind of aghast when I set
eyes on TP for the first time. Kameo for 360 is a game with
a similarly nondescript fantasy style that I don't care for,
but man it was hard going from that crystal clear color
cornucopia to TP's muted jaggy blurfest. Not that I think
the Wii isn't capable, because Metroid and Mario look fine
and dandy.

TP has that whole problem of being a gamecube original, that
unfortunately seems to have really affected the graphics.

The best zelda for a long time for me has to be Phantom
Hourglass.

Very true, though for me a lot of it also weak
implementation of style. Wind Waker still looks gorgeous and
clean, and even though I totally don't approve of it as a
remake, MGS-Twin Snakes is still sharp. RE4 is rough and
dirty too but it works REALLY well there.

Yeah the GC did some amazing things when it was in the right
hands. Might dig mine out now.

i've started playing twilight princess on wii (25 hours in)
and while it's really good, i'm perplexed as to how similar
it looks (from memory) to the n64 games, aside from some
more fluid animations, water texture etc.

i enjoyed the game. i guess being a zelda fan, pretty much
any major new installment would've pleased me. complaints
like, it's not hard enough or it's too similar to OoT aren't
as bad as it just being a shit game.
if you really wanted a zelda game thats harde and adds
something new, play okami and pretend it's really hard.
