beleive = belief. publiched = published. me = little too
much to drink.

"needless provocation" is simply your interpretation of it.
and regardless of that, why on earth shouldn't a paper be
allowed to print something provocative?

a good friend of mine in Brighton wrote an insightful
article about this
Please Read to learn a young muslim person's perspective
on the issue.

It's all our own interpretations though. That's what we're
offering here.

no, because i'm not offering any interpretation. i'm saying
no matter what the cartoon could possibly be or mean, it
should be permitted to see print.

well, depicting holy people is indeed forbidden and since
this is religious people i understand their anger. i think
my opinion on this matter is very similar to yours.

i saw an interview the other day on the tv with the
president of the muslim association here in iceland. he's
from palestine, been living here for more than 20 years, has
an icelandic wife and kids and stuff. he's a really nice and
a clever guy as well.

so anyway, what he had to say about the issue was that he
didn't see the depiction of muhammed as the worst thing. it
wasn't that big of a deal for him. but for muhammed to be
depicted with a bomb on his head was a serious issue because
by that the author showed islam as a religion of terrorism.
the president saw no purpose for the picture other than to
fuel prejudice.

he himself has said that he will boycott danish products for
some time, which i find rather strange since he is a
sensible guy. but this is his way of saying that he isn't
pleased with what has been done and this is a very mild
protest in my opinion. he doesn't like the burning of flags
because the danish flag, for example (and all the nordic
flags for that matter), is a religious symbol.

And where did I say they shouldn't be allowed to print it?
Right the way through this topic you have posted based on
your own interpretations of what others have written, and
you have mostly got something wrong in that interpretation.

what did you mean by this, then:

it would be politically grounded but can you see it
being accepted or publiched in any major publication in a
Christian country? It's double standards and not free
speech.

aren't you implying there that it is outside the realm of
free speech and shouldn't be published because of double
standards?

No-one here is going to say anything in any response that is
definitive. Without getting too philosophical about it,
everything is opinion and interpretation :)

i really don't think i'm getting philosophical at all here,
guys.

i'm saying the content of the cartoon is irrelevant. if
it's a pro-nazi cartoon, a pro-astronauts cartoon, it
doesn't matter. no government that respects free speech
should ban it. that's all i'm saying.

He and the 4 other muslims in Iceland aren't going to make

Besides, you only exercise free speech if you are willing to
accept the repercussions. For example, if I were to meet
you and you exercised free speech in calling me a twat or
something then I would hospitalise you. This is just the
same thing on a bigger scale .

That's perfectly reasonable. The protest is, in my opinion,
in proportion to the level of insult.

here's a question, especially for you: if at all possible,
and I must warn you - be prepared, we're entering the world
of dreams and make belief- if it were possible, would you
mate with your recordcollection and have a tiny new
recordcollection that would slowly grow bigger?

well, there's this free speech thingie.. it doesn't really
seem to be all that simple. If someone prints something just
to provoke there's no meaning to it.. I think that's what
ecna's getting at.. if I'm wrong, or even more confusing,
nevermind.

because it's grow up to be a little twat like all bloody

i understand, to a degree, the "no-picture thing". it has to
do with idolisation of people and like judaism and
christianity, islam is a monotheism and they try to respect
that.

i've always found it strange how catholocis, for example (no
insult intended), idolise saints and worship them, when
christianity is a monotheism...

This was what I was intimating in my first post. Each to his
own. It's just my opinion that it's out of proportion. I
will always disagree with most violent solutions to
problems, and others will always disagree with me, and never
the twain etc.

I know it is a bit of a daft comparison but when Ghandi
walked to the sea and made salt dispite the fact the british
strictly forbade it he didn't have every indian with him
making salt...his minimal actions helped to change the mind
set of a people. Over this bombhead thing there are going
to be people who blindly saw only the "muslims being
irrational" viewpoint who will have altered their views
because of the way this man has conducted himself.

at any rate, you've got that wrong. the point of free
speech under a government is that you are protected to say
what you have to say. people must have the ability to speak
out without being oppressed by a force. you're talking
about street justice, which is just the pathetic reality of
our society that doesn't really accept free speech anyway.

that is probably true but i still think that the God of the

course i'm not catholic so i don't know anything about
that.

my point here is that this no-picture-thing in islam might
have been established to prevent idolisation of people
instead of allah.

yeah, I hate violence too.. I chose civil service (or
whatever the translation is) over going to the army.. we all
have to go (unless we do civil service), and all they do is
teach us how to kill.. fucking army wankers.

I think that these silly pictures of Mohammed is, like, the
worlds largest "YO MAMA" insult.. it's enough to get someone
killed, and I think I mostly agree with ecna: if anyone knew
they'd be provoking people with these pictures, they should
just let sleeping dogs lie...

i mean, isnt it silly, that i as a dane, should feel
threatned by something i clearly didnt do?

theres this guy abu laban, danish spearhead of some islamic
foundation, he travelled the middleeast to spread the news
that mohmmad has been drawn... and now look at this mess..
this guy goes on national danish television and says he is
sorry about everything.. then 2 hours later he supports the
actions taken by muslims on al-jazzeera.

but i guess this is what happens when you do business with
islamic countries, u have to apply to their laws n stuff..
fuck this is ridiculous...

mess of a text, i know..

I'm a bit faithless so I have no real opinion on catholics
or any other branch of christianity other than trying to
respect their beliefs (hard as it is some times)

Saying that, and relating to the personification of god,
look at how the image of Jesus/God has been perverted into
the blue eyed, white european.
