I was just thinking about this possible feature:

having like a "next thread" and "previous thread" button
inside each thread, so you can navigate without going back
to the main page... I guess this would only be useful when
you know there are a couple threads in a row that you want
to view... And now that I think about it it would probably
go against Phob's streamlined-layout mission, but I just
thought it would be cool. :D

What's humourous about this whole debate is if Phob or
TuneMX put in a new feature, you'd all praise it, no matter
how similar it is to other forums out there... I think it's
more a matter of "we want to be as different from that
other board as possible" without really thinking
about the benefits of an edit button, a quote button, or
even a "read last post" link in the topic titles.

I think the point system should go, I think it would help on
the spam. Other than that I can't htink of much, I like the
link jand posted.

how can i read this thread and not make a "xlt needs an
edit-button" remark? it's impossible, and you know it! so
yeah, xlt does need more buttons. learning to push buttons
is like learning to deal with women. i rest my case.
:P

Why not make a poll to see if it should be left alone or
changed. If more people want it changed then a topic can be
made for people to submit their desired changes. Then you
can delete that topic, ban all those involved and everyone
will be happy and content in XLTRONIC LAND once more.

its nice as it is.

and I think phob would only change things if he wanted to,
not if people asks for it. I mean this is not a public site,
he surely takes our comments into consideration, but that
doesnt mean he has do what we want.

gallery and lots of remixes, and compilations to download

is not bad at all already... eventhough a lot more is a
bout to come

"this is not a public site"

would it be better to ask premium members what they want?

premium members dont own the site, they just gave a small
donation cos they freely wanted to

I dont think we have any right of decision

but of course phob takes everybody´s opinion into
consideration cos he wants this place to be great

i see your point

phob tunemx etc have poured more into this site with regard
to money than the members i can only assume

my point is the the paying members are the people who want
this site and the opinion they have toward this site is more
valid

I am sure phob is thankfull to all the members who
contributed with a little money, so he surely has the will
to give the best of his efforts to our enjoyment of the
site

still, this is his site, and apart from listening to
recomendations, he will always do what he feels he likes

The reason I was saying that was because I thought it would
get rid of the "competition" for who has more points, and
people would be less inclined to post rubish. Twas' just an
idea.

Oh and phobia, thanks for replying to my email, good advice.

"more features = slower board"

almost everybody got adsl or broadbrand so it doesn't matter
that much, or at all :)

only valid one... it's the only one that could be done

The board is perfect the way it is. That is the reason I
come here. An edit function would be shit.

Alberto: you have to take into account server load, even
what seem like relatively simple additions can add a lot
more database queries which can lead to server performance
hits. Also bandwidth consumption is increased etc. etc. and
the board starts looking like a mess.

I don't see the point. Most people just write the name of
who they are directing their reply to in the body of the
message.

I hardly ever want to reply to more than 1 post at a time -
if so, I mostly just do not follow-up to anyone, thereby
following up to everyone.

for me, your suggestion is completely redundant.

Not with the way this board's CSS/HTML output is done... but
that's for another thread :)

Phob: Why remove features? That's just plain silly in my
book - plus, most modern boards are flexible enough you can
turn features on or off - no need to modify anything by
hand, and I'll say that more features does not mean a slower
board - only how well it's coded determines that.

joyrex: we have obviously different views on how to build
and design websites (not that you built "your" forum or
anything... anyone can run the setup program... but you get
my point). i'll just drop the subject here... before things
are getting dirty again. :)

You don't have a clue how the back end of this board works,
and as for the CSS/HTML, granted it is a little excessive at
the moment but it wouldn't be that much work to clean it up
as it is very consistent.

I'm not kissing rear here, but this board is the best I have
come across on the net. It does exactly what it needs to do
and does it well.

Seriously though, this board is great. it's fast, looks
tight and the lay-out is clean and well organised.

Advice/constructive criticism: the search function could be
improved and also perhaps something could be done with the
black area that makes the right 1/3 of my screen. Last
thing: I wouldn't mind a quote system but I certainly dont
think it's a prerequisite.
