Oh, yeah - I see what you mean - For some reason, I though I
had to click "reply" to go to a posting screen, then post a
message (ala my board before the Quick Reply feature was
implemented). Sorry, I get a bit scatter-brained at times
:)

So, really, the only thing you added was increased the size
of the post window and added the character counter. Either
way, it's a good improvement.

The lazy link thing is really cool, but instead of having it
go to "http://lazy_url/" and the text being "LAZY_URL", you
should have two text boxes next to it where you can put the
address and text. Then when you press it it makes the link
from these.

the feature is nice, though i don't like that name 'lazy
link'. a bit too 'popular'. Can't it just be 'link'.... imo.
it would be nice if you can highlight text, then press the
link button and the highlighted text would be transformed
into a link!

ah, fuck that. don't add too much.

Did this little reply box get darker? Or am i tripping out?
This is absolute and utter madness!

Moving along i think that these improvements are real neat!

Ideas:

Font colors
Different sizes (up to something reasonable and not to big
so threads dont get killed)

and finally

The option to click on the little dot in the bottom left
hand corner of the screen and something happens!!!!

:D!!!

offline Jazembo from The Earth ball on 2004-03-03 08:39 [#01097221]

noooooooo not font colours!

I think the box looks darker because there is an image
behing it, like it is transparent or something.

My suggestion: Most of the time i view the board at work, so
i turn off the avatars in my profile. Yet, when viewing
someone's last posts, i still do get to see them. i don't
like that. is this fixable?

the way the background image is fixed in the instant reply
textarea is eating memory in FireFox for some reason.

i propose this little tweak in the stylesheet:

textarea{
background-image: url('afx_bg_msgbox.gif');
background-repeat: no;
background-position: bottom right;
overflow: auto;
}

i think that should work for both browsers (IE & everything
else). of course, you'll have to add about 20 pixels of
witdth to the background image to make up for the loss of
the scrollbar when the textarea is empty. but, that's a
good thing IMO.

and it should work.

no, it's for body-tags only.... it doesn't work with
textarea elements. i find it odd FireFox doesn't like the
current setup... does it crasch or freezes up?

it runs really slow when scrolling Phob - give me a minute
and I'll propose a CSS fix...

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2004-03-03 15:35 [#01097877]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Here you go Phob - he had the "background-repeat" set
wrong:

textarea{
background-image:url(afx_bg_msgbox.gif);
background-attachment:fixed; background-repeat:
no-repeat;

}

Put that in your stylesheet and that should do the trick.

Also, you might consider removing all the inline styles in
the HTML - it would cut down on bandwidth quite a bit :)

Calm down Mr Joyrex.

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2004-03-03 15:40 [#01097883]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Odd... now it increased by one, but should have increased by
4 (now 5)

Also, those graphics for "instant reply" and "upload
picture" are too hard to read, and take up bandwidth as well
- give me another minute and I'll do up those in CSS so you
don't have to use graphics and it will look just as good :)

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2004-03-03 15:44 [#01097886]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Here's my fix for the graphics (if you want it):

.legend {
font-size: 10px;font-family: verdana,arial, helvetica,
sans-serif; letter-spacing:2px; line-height: 100%;
text-transform: uppercase;
}

The rule could be condensed a bit, but I was in a rush...

nono. keep working on-line.

it's funny to see new features w/ each click.

you should upgrade the site to the new site gradually while
we are posting, so that we won't notice it when the new site
has arrived!

when we click "reply" you should make 13 windows pop up to
ask "do you really want to reply?"

the ability to make "my music" posts with a different color,
just like the release-discussion-threads would also be nice.
sometimes, it is hard to distinguish music-threads from
other threads, as the names of new tracks often are
sentences on here.
