For those bashing the New Testament: Have you ever read the
New Testament? It makes the Old Testament look foolish by
comparison. The words that Jesus spoke did not come from
the common human mind. Buddha spoke very similarly.

The Old Testament was written by men who claimed to have
spoken with God. ( I know a tonne of LSD burn-outs who have
claimed the same)

The phrase "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth," and similar
interpretations found in the Quran is one of the most absurb
phrases in religion, and the deaths of hundreds of Israelis
and Palestinians is a direct result of idiocy founded in the
minds of everyday human ignorance.

I just thought I would defend Jesus in a non-violent way.

More bombings in Iraq and Israel today. What a bunch of
bullshit.

"Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth". These words form the
foundation for the senseless killings of hundreds of Jews
and Muslims.

If we followed Jesus, there would be peace. Jesus himself
is smart enough to force a re-write of "eye for an eye,
tooth for a tooth".

Any God who wishes further death to an enemy is a God that I
will not worship.

Who cares? If we need assistance and assurance in this
life, worship a god and a jesus and read a big novel with
really thin pages that everyone believes is the truth.
If you are able to freely know what is right, what life is
about and what happens when we die, then think for your
fuckin self.
I personally do not believe in any religions, but I believe
that some of the fundamental themes of the bible (aka fables
and parables) are valid. The 10 commandments: most of them
make sense. Except for the "don't believe in false idols,"
but even that one can be interpreted as true. False idols
could be the media, or pop stars today. I think that if
more people truly thought about what is going on in life,
instead of blindly following a god they've never met or
seen, the world would be a better place.

Problem is; some people are idiots, and some people, as
smarts as they might be, are evil.

You may be smart enough to think freely about life and
death, but lets hope your strategy doesn't turn people into
twisted fucked up evil-doers.

I don't think most people are capable of doing what is
right, and you're giving them way to much credit and freedom
to do so.

You've got extremeists who follow every rule to the letter,
even if it defies all human logic and reasoning toward
building peace and harmony with fellow human and creature.

Then you've got those who blatently ignore commandments such
as "thou shall not kill" so long as it means murdering
opposing religions or denominations within a single
religion.

If I had a pennie for everytime religion was inproperly used
to justify the ignorant actions of most people, I would make
Bill Gates look like the homeless man at the end of my
street.

Well, there are some people with Jesus fishes and bumper
stickers that say "Real Men Love Jesus" that are murderers
too. My "strategy" is not a universal solution. It is why
I personally do not follow or agree with any religion. Nor
spirituality. I believe that humans are animals like geckos
or pigeons or mice. We just have advanced cognitive
processes; the ability to invent a higher power. What makes
anyone believe in God? What grounds are there? Is the bible
so compelling and irrefutable? It's a fucking invention
mate, just like moving pictures. In 2,000 years, Lord of
the Rings might be the next bible, replete with the
religious innuendos and conotations we have from the bible.
I don't think I'm smarter than the average joe, I think
maybe I have had the fortune to be able to have gone through
a catholic-based school system, learned what they have
taught me, and made the effort to think for myself. You
see, once I started to think for myself, I became the person
I am. Morals are morals, whether you adopt those contained
in religious teachings and the bible, or you adapt your
personality to what you know is right. A healthy
understanding of cause and effect, for instance, is all
some, including myself, need to live a wholesome,
unobtrusive life.

atgmartin

i think you're in for a very interesting surprise.

i have no interest in persuading anyone of anything unless
it serves them, or they have asked me to remind me of what
they have forgotten.

it is true that no one here can articulate a complete model
of our whole situation. yet that does not mean that our
situation is not far more complex and subtle than many
realize.

we will all change our minds.
