weird that this topic escalated into a really deep discussion. some quality posts in here. actually, i myself used the term "post-juke" a few times already mentioning artists like machinedrum, ital tek, slick shoota or even some kuedo. one could come to the conclusion that post-juke is basically non-black juke which sounds wrong but is oh so true. i don't see this in a negative way, though. i think in that most of these artists do a fantastic job of adapting the rhythm and structure to their own style. i don't see this as any form of theft or parasitic behaviour, rather a natural consequence. also, if i may allow a more racist statement i would even dare to say that all those white people took from footwork / juke the only few worthy elements and created something cohesive. because when you look twice you'll get to the conculsion that footwork / juke might be just the saddest music style ever. it has absolutely no artistic value whatsoever, is basically pushing music back into prehistoric times with its' limited soundset and basically lack of melodic content. and all this so a few negroes with fast feet can do their weird twitchy movements which looks more like trying not to fall on a slippery floor than dancing, convinced that they are doing something valuable and respectful with their sad lives. |

i think it's music to dance to. if you don't dance like that, or you're not watching someone dance like that, you come away thinking it's incredibly shit. if you're a white neckbeard who's spent years listening to chaps like Clark and BOC, you're probably quite attuned to sound design and texture, and 95% of this music seems to be very poor in that department. |

you know when i heard juke for the first time i liked it from the start. i loved it exactly for being so raw and simple, kind of like the dubstep roots. just that in the case of dubstep it was perfectly fine to begin with. yeah - without that dancing juke got horrible boring and repetetive. |

"negroes" is only a step away from "nigger" in terms of offensiveness. so is "colored people." where as dubstep was based around bass feel, juke/footwork is all about the rhythm. it may seem limited to you, but just like with any specialty, the magic lies in the subtle intricacies that arise when using a limited palette. |

problem is that i know the meaning of any of these words and used the ones i chose on purpose. so i would hardly call this stupidity. if you insist that it is, then you are the offender, not me. now, you might think i don't as my internet persona seems nice and helpful and racist slur doesn't really fit in here. the choice is yours not to decide if i am stupid or not (because i am not) but to decide if what was said permits you to think of me as a dickhead. i deliberately use the word negroe as other people use "guido" or "russkie" etc. which have not only behavioral features built into it but also racial association. it is meant to be offensive of course, but in the context of behavior, only underlining that most people of this subculture are from a specific country, race. |

god i love your stuff man. the track is really nice, although imho the bubbly main theme is a bit overpowering at times. a simple 1dB cut would probably do miracles. i kind of envy you for having this particular musical skill that is kind of hard to describe in one word. it's something a lot of artists have, making beat-driven music. it's these constant slight changes and variations to a beat, FX in the back, vocal samples, using effects, buildups that make it sound so interesting. love the reverb on that snare of yours, how it has some melodical tail. i come straight from techno over cold, mathematical idm so no wonder my tracks sound so "dry". i basically drive on cliches, 4/16 builds and stock samples. as to these tracks. they are actually remixes so there is not much credit for me. i made them just to use them as a few dj tools in sets. drop it is actually get on the move is oh and this owen thing is from a video game that i happened to find some midi files. |

btw all those lil details i work into my tracks, there's no special trick to it really - just time. i'll spend like an hour or two just tweaking the envelopes for one buildup or transition, just to get it right. giving your music time to grow has to be the best advice i can give to music makers. instead of laying out a track and posting it the same day (like a lot of my friends do), walk away, work on something else, then listen to the track again in a week. find out what do you wish it would do differently, then make it do that. we have complete control over the sound, so why not exercise it? another biggun is having "playable" elements to your tracks. most of my songs start out life as a ridiculously dense, complete 16 bar loop with 10 different live effects that i just lay out and progressively remove certain parts of for a section. i like having a knob to cut off midi signals to each of my drum tracks, most of my build ups are macro'd to a single knob as well, and same with my filters. then i go thru the song recording a single automation each run thru, which brings a lot of the humanized touch to the piece. sure, it takes a lot of time, but i'm finding the more time i spend [on mda while working] on a track the more i'm pleased with it in the end. |

I find it really weird that people seem to think one particular cultural/racial group "own" a sound or genre. Music as a whole is spectacularly derivative; you could argue anyone using any of the conventional scales is plagiarising those who have gone before. It seems natural that scenes are influenced by one another; it happens in all other forms of artwork (literature, films, theatre, etc.) nothing exists in isolation. |
