god fucking damn!

I wonder if the Imams "down there" are as lenient/willing to
resolve this peacefully as the ones up here are...

how many Imams are there? I've had the impression that only
a few of the Imams are inclined to violence while the
extremists are lead by people who aren't really religious
leaders, but rather self-proclaimed leaders or prophets or
whatever...

it's more, like, as you hold an ordained priest as an
official representative of the church, you wouldn't hold
some madman in the mountains who's eating children and
declaring it to be in the name of god as a representative of
the church.

A french newspaper has published today the 12 drawings plus
several new cartoons depicting the three religions.
=/

yet, the man in the mountains isn't a representative of the
general population of christians even if he has 1000
followers, nor is the pope or any of the cardinals, or in
fact anyone associated with the church responsible for his
actions.

all this shite os not representative of the religion - since
the koran actually says not to kill etc. just like any other
religion. these wankers who are going on about massacring
non-believers are all mindless ignorant wankers. its not
because of their religion, just because of their arrogant
uneducated mindset. (i mean, look - in afghanistan the
protesters turned to the American embassy, even though the
whole thing has litterally nothing to do with america)

I think the extremists/terrorists can be compared to what's
happening in certain areas in america, like in ghettos.. the
ghetto is a strained environment and from the circumstances
in there, gangsters (and bitches) arise. same thing with
"those countries"; they've got a strained environment and
terrorists (gangsters) arise. as in the ghetto, some never
break free of their bad habits, and unlike in the ghetto,
there isn't as tight law enforcement (reasonably enough,
since a ghetto is much smaller than any country).

this could also serve as an analogy to the example I gave
earlier about why people don't protest other things if they
don't agree with the extremists. if something happens and
some sort of organised crime is involved, "there are no eye
witnessess even though hundreds of people witnessed the
event"; people are afraid they might get hurt, and
law-protection, as I said, isn't as good, and there's no
"witness protection program."

DM, what, in your personal opinion, is ideally the purpose
of a religion? Why?

I'm not asking for a functional description or someone
else's theory.

Well fuck, what did they expect? The cartoon is making fun
of someones god. Not only making fun of him, really twisting
the image unfairly and making it so demeaning for anyone
connected to it.

And think about who is reading it, not only a bunch of
sarcastic nerds who listen to shitty music (us) but people
the age of grandparents, and all sorts of other people who
would react to it in a non "I listen to aphex twin Im so out
there and smart" sort of way.

It`s like making porn jokes. You arn`t going to say "Oh mom
you slut, pass the carrots".

Pretty stupid place to print that comic if they were looking
for a light hearted reaction. Stupid idiot media fucks. Rot
bullshit

but this has a function: making fun of serious stuff
reliefs, maybe making people think too

muslims going bezerk is more about all the other wrongs like
bush invading iraq without a reason and all the shit the
cia's pulled
the cia calls this 'blowback'

what I think the ideal function of a religion should be?

well, first of, if I could create the world anew, I probably
wouldn't have them. It'd be more philosophical disciplines
like Tao and Buddhism with even less mysticism. The ideal
religion would be one the house of which was open to all
(house is a metaphor); it wouldn't demand of you that you
believed in it, but offer its services regardless. Its
services would include things like a sort of counselling,
like a priest sometimes does, but more like a psychologist
or philosopher (less "rigid" than the psychologist). In
other words, there would be an understanding and just man
with no personal interests (in the line of work; you
couldn't demand anyone to give up their life, but he should
be a man/woman (I won't make that slash every time, but it
doesn't matter what sex or race or whatever) that could keep
work and private life separate).

Other services provided would be certain simple health care
things (almost with the same capacity as a school nurse or
something.. bandages, [those things you have your arm in if
it's broken], crutches, and such). Then there'd be
volounteer work in places that needed help (as volounteer
work today is).

No god, no preaching. Only compassionate people. If you were
a member of this religin, you would get medical and
counselling training.

It's starting to seem more like the perfect welfare-state
than any current or possible religion (it's kind of falling
outside of the box called "religion" already, so...).

I'm not sure if I answered your question correctly...
perhaps you were looking for something as simple and short
as "a moral guideline," but in that case, there'd still be a
long list of things to take into consideration...

So to summarize, you're saying that ideally a religion
should be something that benefits humanity, that contributes
to the common good. I mean, irrespective of whether it
includes supernatural elements.

yes, in a way, but in an ideal world,
everything should be something that benefits humanity
and contributes to the common good, and things that do
neither of these shouldn't exist. Of course, there's lots of
trouble finding out what "the common good" and stuff like
that is, but.. well, we're not exactly talking reality here
anyway...

..you didn't answer my question earlier about what you do
and if you make music (and if so, if it is available
online)... if you don't want to answer it, I won't nag, but
I don't know if you've even seen it...

Mohamed Atta al-Sayed was an architect. Marwan al-Shehhi
studied languages in Bonn, Germany. Ziad Jarrah was born to
a wealthy family and studied aerospace engineering. Said
Bahaji studied electrical engineering in Hamburg.

These are some of the 9-11 hijackers. I could go on, but do
you see my point? These guys were not ghetto.

well, it's not that literal, I was trying to point out that
the religion wouldn't necessarily be the main source of
"angry men"; it could just as well be the entire situation
in the country. Of course, religion is a part of that, but
it's hard to tell how much of it really is religion or if
there really would be a difference if christianity or was
the main religion in the same areas.. both the bible and the
koran have paragraphs of violence as well as of
benevolence... interpretation of such holy scriptures would
vary immensely according to the already existing attitudes
in the person or persons (as groups of people who actually
are a group (have something in common and aren't just
random individuals in the same area) often share the same
attitudes) interpreting it.

also, the analogy helped explain and counter that silly

against terror before?" thingie that's been popping up as
some sort of "argument" lately...

As an aside, I think I would actually wet myself laughing if
a westerner infiltrated one of these protests and suicide
bombed the crowd there. It would resonate so much better
than just spraying bullets into the crowd.

Imagine it; barge into the middle of the crowd, then scream
through a loudhailer, "How do you stupid fucks like these
apples?!" before pressing the button. 100 or so dead.
Result. Aside from proving a point, the people
injured/killed would have been no great loss and imagine the
great laugh it would give people on messageboards the world
over.

I myself am pretty happy with my life and have no intention
of ending it prematurely, however, I would politely request
that anyone planning on offing themselves does it by doing
this. That way, your death/life will not have been in vain.
Cheers.

My two penn'orth...I find it digusting that people have now
been killed and churches set ablaze in response to some
fukkin CARTOONS being published...the double standards are
breathtaking...decrying the publication as offensive to
religion, then burning churches and killing
Christians...objecting to images of the so-called prophet
while anti-Jewish images are routinely published in the Arab
world etc. etc.

Disgusting...

None of this would be an issue if muslims (and all of us)
didn't live in the global economy, with the internet and
mass media. Despite being a small victory for parochialism,
this is truly a testament to the global village. There is,
then, an inkling of the positive in this.

But I really think these cows and sheep should fill their
