I can't be arsed to read this whole post, but those first couple that drunken posted seemed pretty close to the money. Unfortunately, right now, with the way things are going in the states, I doubt any newspaper is about to post a picture of jesus carrying a bomb... That would end up with the cartoonist ending up in a CIA prison somewhere in europe being forcefully "questioned".

i dont think those that 'protest' have even bothered to properly interpret the cartoons - surely the main message is that terrorists are using religion? anyway, bet the police are laughing - many as suspect has shown their face.

My POV: Bunch of pricks who made the cartoon all the more accurate by responding the way they did, thereby making the cartoon's message not worthy of "moral outcry" and themselves hypocrits.
Civilised (westernised?) Muslims wouldn't go off the wall at images like this, those who did are a bunch of savages and a good case for western imperialism.

When I said, "Bunch of pricks who made the cartoon all the more accurate by responding the way they did, thereby making the cartoon's message not worthy of "moral outcry" and themselves hypocrites." I was refering to the Muslims who went mental over it, not the newspaper.
I have a lot of respect for the newspaper for showing some backbone and not saying the usual, "the cartoons were in bad taste, we are most sorry for any offence it has caused and apologise unreservedly, we've sacked a scapegoat and will run islamic terrorist-sympathetic articles for the next 6 months to make up for it".

the newspapers aren't showing backbone! The editor of the norwegian newspaper who printed the cartoons (it's a christian newspaper, by the way) is calling the government cowards for making him take the responsibility.. this shows that he expected to be able to hide behind the government if someone protested...

I'd be pissed off, but I wouldn't go out and commit a terrorist act against a bunch of Muslims who had nothing to do with the cartoon. Incidentally, I doubt the cartoonist(s) was a devout Christian, per se, so their choice of revenge target sucks balls.
There's a big difference by being offended by someones views and going and shooting them for it, which was the point the original cartoon made. At the risk of sound like a WWJD fundamentalist Christian, do any of the knobbers concerned really think Mohammed would of responded the way they did?

the best reply in a newspaper as of yet is in fact a cartoon.. it's called "fakta fra verden" ("Facts from the world"). he just had a square saying "freedom of speech is important." Then the next square said something like "we fight for freedom of speech." And then there was a picture of aforementioned editor. Then a picture of him looking like hitler. Then a picture of him looking like an arab. Then a picture of him in kiss makeup with blood running from the sides of his mouth. (there were more captions, but I can't remember them). Of course, due to the events as of late, he can't get publicly angry, but at any other time, this would've made him cry out about being harassed or whatever...

this thread has taught me however that we could be more considerate of our neighbours feelings when making jokes
final thought: someone in the paper today argued that muslims have a monotheistic religion. therefor idoltry of mohammed is wrong. therefor making fun of mohammed's temper is good.D

he seems, however, to have forgotten that there is a difference between acting out against extremist actions and against something the extremists support acting out against. I don't know for sure, but I have a strong feeling that for instance people in Iraq don't necessarily approve of the extremist ways, but they are also very afraid of what could happen if they went public with a critique of them.. they could face not only their own death, but the deaths of their loved ones. However, when a case where the extremists support your protests, protesting is probably both a way to let out steam otherwise suppressed and a way to feel more secure, as the extremists are now "on your side"; you aren't very likely to be killed.
I'm a bit tired and I have a headache, but I hope that's coherent.

As far as I am aware those images are NOT altered. I saw things like that in the newspaper, and they are unlikely to photoshop it just to add more fuel to the fire...
Also if there are no pictures of Mohammed, how do they know they are cartoons of Mohammed? Perhaps they are cartoons of Abdul from the corner shop? And let's face it, Mohammed is a common name amongst muslims, so does it say that they are cartoons of the prophet Mohammed?
