No, I will work on the site off-line. I don't like it when
people are whining about stuff when it's still in progress.
It's not relevant. But I don't blame then as they can't
possibly tell whether a feature or small details are
finished or not.

but will you consider the "listen to my music" with new
link-color?

another dilemma is when people are suggesting features which
have already been adding to the site, but it's not shown
yet, and I can't reveal it by saying "oh, that's already
implemented" cos it would spoil the surprise effect.

and when the feature is official they say "HAHAHA! they
listened to me!!!"..... that is quite funny... but what can
we do?

this has nothing to do with the topic. But does sommeone
know some person called joshua clayton or clayto or some
shit sounding like that. Heard something tasty of his other
day but couldn't understand danish lecturer when he told me
the musicians name. Sounds a bit like autechre.

drunken: that is a perfect example of something that's
already planned. remember i've mentioned the "messageboard
filter" before? you'll simple tag your new topic as "my
music promotion" and people will have the option to filter
out (eg hide) such topics. other tags will be used to.

i like this concept better than regular categories as you'll
still have the option to view ALL topics on one single page
(just like today), but still have the oppurtunity to filter
out various kind of topics. I for one will def. choose to
view ALL topics, but I've seen several opinions on how much
annoyance music spam might bring...

and it's a perfect tool to show ONLY music spam if you feel
like checking out new music by xltronic members. news-items
will also be tagged, same goes for "discography
discussions". wouldn't it be nice to show ONLY "discography
discussions" sometime?

that's a FUCKING GREAT idea!

Keep the page "all-in-one," but with the ability to filter!

but for the time being, could you consider putting a
temporary solution with just a.. ehm... AH! Checkbox was the
word for "my music-thread" and like.. a light grey color or
something?

shouldn't take too long... a new CSS-class which the
threads which have the "my music" property is embedded
into.. or... I don't know how you've set-up this board, but
you could just copy what you did with the
discography-discussion-threads...

(btw: would you consider extending the discography to
include jazz and nu-jazz, as there are frequent discussions
about these genres here? Or maybe you want to keep it purely
"Excellent electronic music?")

Firefox does not render this page very well anyway, besides,
the "fix" was tested earlier, just like epohs suggested and
it didn't work (you should read the whole thread next
time).

Internet Explorer is heavily recommended. The site
does look weird in Firefox and you'll miss a few (mostly
cosmetical) details.

This is what the messagebox should look like:

on a different note:

how about a Jay-z link next to the lazy link?
`
it would make your entire post a link to a picture of jay-z
telling all his artists they were fired!

If you choose to support invalid CSS standards, that's your
choice - you'll be forced down the road to make the change
when IE updates again (probably when Longhorn comes out) and
goes (hopefully) 100% CSS compliant.

The CSS didn't work? Odd... I'll take a look at the code
again - I did write it in less than five minutes :\

Forcing your users to use only one browser may turn some
away from the site...especially considering the rising
popularity of Mozilla and FireFox...

I'm not forcing anyone. It's a recommendation. Obviously
FireFox is unable to render basic cosmetical settings and
I'm not gonna limit the site because of that.

Oh, I just did read through the thread, and apparently
you didn't read correctly - my code corrected
Epoh's (he had background-repeat: no versus
background-repeat: no-repeat. "no" is not a
valid value for the background-repeat attribute.

I suggest giving it a go again - you'll be better off in the
long run.

well.. about this CSS, yes: it is better to use valid
CSS. It can be made to look the same in all browsers. I've
made several sites which were completely the same in all the
browsers lately.

You should use the w3c css validator to check your css
regularly while writing.. if you don't use correct CSS, the
web-browsers will evolve away from you, making the update
less permanent... if you want to keep from updating too
often, keep everything validated...

"basic cosmetical settings"? Please... IE is not fully
CSS1/2 compliant... it's not FireFox's fault that it renders
CSS more accurately then IE...

Anyways, try the fix again (I think you used Epoh's code
instead of mine) and it will work if you do what I suggest.

Just trying to help you out Phob...

christ, read it again, he corrected himself a few posts
later to no-repeat

or does Firefox render things you only wants to read?
;-)

offline epohs from )C: on 2004-03-08 08:50 [#01103367]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

sorry... i didn't mean to stir things up.

but, anyway. i saved a test page, and tested out the new
css, and it seems to be working on my end on both FireFox,
and IE.

http://tehgrey.com/_waste/xlt/topic.html

of course, like i mentioned earlier, you'll have to add
about 20 pixels of width to the textarea background image to
make up for the loss of the scrollbar.

offline epohs from )C: on 2004-03-08 08:52 [#01103370]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

the problem is that FireFox (correctly) renders the
'background: fixed;' command, and fixes the
background to the page, not the textarea.

just a nit-picky sort of thing... but, FireFox is in the
right here, and IE is poo.

:D

offline epohs from )C: on 2004-03-08 09:49 [#01103397]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

i also moved a few of the styles that were on the textarea
tag up into the stylesheet, and changed the background
color... but, they weren't big changes.

so, for what it's worth, that's my suggestion.

:)

Yeah. Actually, the textarea is what makes my browser slow
down. Scrolling works completely fine until I reach the
textarea, but after it has been in the picture, scrolling is
slowslowslow.

If the css for the background-image in the textarea says
"background-attachment: fixed;", changing that to
background-attachment: scroll;" would help.

does the page i linked to 5 posts up ^ scroll slow on your
browser? it shouldn't since i messed around with the css.

if it does, what browser/OS are you running?

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2004-03-09 07:06 [#01104379]

scrolling works perfectly fine on that page you linked to.

on this page, the browser is working on moving the
background-image of the textarea around even when the
textarea is out of sight. background-attachment: fixed
really fixes the background to the whole page in general,
not to the textarea.
