I played it at my brother's last night... no news here: it's a fantastic game... too early to settle these MARIO WARS though... mud will be slinging till people get bored...
I love this game. I'm only at 42 stars, and I have to wait another week to play it more, but so far I'm loving every throbbing inch of it!
everything shines: rising difficulty level, level design, planetary navigation, replayability, controls (even swimming is perfect), enemies, bosses, camera angles, unique identity of the worlds...
I would like to be able to say something critical about it, but it's really not that easy! I guess one thing that is sort of lacking - and here I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel - is the depth of the side characters and the story... But this is Mario for heaven's sake, not a character- or story-driven RPG! Plus, that storybook is really cute and amazing. Oh actually I was wrong, the side characters are complex little critters from outer space!
Yea, so far I'd say it's the best platformer in 11 years (since Mario 64 was released), by a long shot. It's the best plaftormer of THIS generation and better than anything released on the LAST generation. It is more than its genre, too: simply a lovingly crafted, fantastic game.
Actually it's perhaps as good as Super Mario 3, Super Mario World and Mario 64 combined, a kind of distillation of their best qualities. Plus it reinvents, in its celestial mechanics, the whole concept of a gaming experience! Gravity! Black Holes! Amazing.
Unless I find the rest of the game to suck real bad, I'd say there's no need to dislike this game. Why hate beauty?

I still think there should have been points where shooting stars needed to be used. That's all I can find wrong with this amazing game, but I do think it is a flaw. Perhaps there could have been switches that were out of reach which could only be activated by shooting stars at them, or a couple of extra enemies which could only be defeated only by shooting stars, or bosees that were even effected by them. I can't actually remember any times where I needed to shoot stars apart from to feed hungry Lumas, to shoot the golden thingies to get coins when low on life, and to stun an enemy just to remind myself that it did have a use (even though spinning at them is usually easier anyway...)
Oh dear, me and that stupid pointer. I'll promise to shut up about it now. I'm just wondering if anybody else has noticed how odd the addition of being able to shoot stars feels?

It's very useful on 2-player. It is, of course, vital to get star-bits which are physically out of reach for the plump little plumber,.

even in 1-player it's fun to swing it around to catch some far-off star-bits... but yea, not the most useful thing in the world

ok wtf? i have 104 stars and there are no more:
comet levels, question mark levels and galaxies that appear after feeding lumas.
On a walkthrough site i just read that there are 16 levels on which you need to find 100 purple coins, but these get unlocked AFTER you beat the game.
Somebody tell me this isn't the case.

took my christmas cash, went into Target the following day and Galaxy is on sale for $37! that's like £18! played a little this morning.
what's so bad about Super Mario Sunshine? i don't know, i've never played it but had planed on buying it.

I don't mind Mario Sunshine that much--it's not like a classic-feeling mario game, but it's fun and it's challenging.

i just got the game. a friend was offered £16 for a trade in so i gave him £15 for it. best £15 i've spent on a game in a long time. since ocean's batman infact.
only 4 stars in but it's a very polished game on a whole. controls are great. camera's going to take a bit more getting used to but on a whole i'm very impressed.
not a game to play when hungover/pissed tho.

What's bad about Sunshine is that it manages to down-perform in relation to Mario 64 in all conceivable aspects. It doesn't even have that many stars to collect. The theme is stupid, too, especially those god awful goofy wankers with flowers for heads populating the island like cancer.
