i thought it was extremely underwhelming and had the same
feeling for me as campfire headphase, in that it seemed like
it was a squarepusher parody.

offline pigster from melbs on 2006-08-22 03:08 [#01957810]

hehe, the good songs i do like. they got this nice big
sound, like a movie soundtrack or something.
while we're comparing this to campfire headphase, first
thing i thought when i heard that one was, they're doing
theyre same old thing but this time they have a somewhat new
sound (still boc, but not same old synths and same songs).
this new squarepusher could be compared to his earlier
stuff, but the tracks have the whole new
squarepusher(/venus17?) thing going on.
.. manage to make sense of that and i'll be happy : )

Yah but campfire headphase had like 2 good tracks, this has
a whole bunch of them. The melodies are as nice or nicer
than any he has ever done.

best albums ive got at home... none a bad song there,
perfect tunes, amazing ambiances, good flowing...

Hello Everything is fucking atrocious! Weak melodies, crappy
chord progressions, and what the fuck is going on with the
drums? They need to be louder AND more varied because the
melodies simply don't 'carry' the tunes anymore.

Comparisons to The Campfire Headphase are about right;
insipid/lame/sleep-inducing. Overall, Hello Everything
sounds like Mark King wanking over his New Age vinyl
collection whilst helping his son with his G.C.S.E
compositions.

Warp has one true innovator left -Jamie Lidell - who can
perform onstage as well as on record. Tom hasn't done
either for a long, long time.

if you look for innovation alone....not much could excite
you in music these days.

the beats are not the strongest part of this album, but pay
attention to the.....oh wait, you already hate this
release.k

Tom's beard cheese has taken over with this release. He
used to be the fucking innovator with releases such as Big
Loada, Music is Rotted and Go Plastic, but now his music
sounds like wallpaper; parts of Hello Everything could be
background music to some shite holiday programme - it just
doesn't sound right to me. This may seem harsh but I am
genuinely disappointed - his music used to excite me but now
I find myself turning it off. Oh well.......

actually this sounds much more interesting and rich than "go

it seems that "hard normal daddy" will remain unbeatable
though.

Plotinus is one of my favorites of the year, it really got
my juices flowing, also the rest of the album is quite nice
but didnt capture me as plotinus did(its a melody thing i
guess)

Althogh it should be said ive only listened through once..

i thought this was going to be something different when i
heard 'theme from sprite' but then soon those drill tunes we
heard so much in the past albums and it just gets dull..most
of those songs just sound like different takes on stuff i
already know..maybe if it evolved into something
considerably different that would be cool, but this just
doesn't seem to go anywhere. i mean they sound nice, but i
think it will wear out and get dull quickly..there are
couple of nice moments there though. if i wouldn't have
heard ultravisitor and tundra before i'd probably find this
at most enjoyable.

drill tunes..they don't fit in at all imo. artists..what can

well it's pretty clear that on this records he's playing
with the same ideas (+ acid) that he was on ultravisitor,
this right here is probably the defined sound of who is
squarepusher.

the record is ok, it has some great tracks wich is enough.

he should have released it as double album together with
ultravisitor. i always expect musicians to move forward for
some reason..he moved on a little, which makes it sound
interesting, but i don't think it's enough to say he created
something new and for that reason i think it will be
forgoten rather soon..or maybe it will grow on me..i already
like it way more than i did after hearing it after the first
time :D (if only there wouldn't be those drill crap songs :)

i don't think the tunes are very "drill", the drums just
sound like cool, groovy layers for the rest of the elements.
i actually love the album, but tastes vary. i think it's
really hard to pick a pusher fave, but i'd rate ultravisitor
as some of his weakest stuff. go plastic, hnd, feed me weird
things, budakhan mindphone, burningn'n tree etc. are all
fantastic and solid albums, and i think this one goes very
well along with them.

ultravisitor (the track) was like an early experiment to
this

the drums were much better in that track but on hello
everything they are just kinda in the background and it's
hard to concentrate on them because theyre not thrown in
your face

and i like that!

I'm not sure wich 'drill' tracks you're refering to. I don't
hear any. maybe the modern bass guitar but it's a very cool
track.

also, if he realeased a double album as you say you'd be
bitching that it would be a thousand times better if he
split it in two different releases :)

IMO every album by squarepusher (with a couple of
exceptions: go plastic maybe this one) has 1,2 or 3 great
tracks and the rest is like meh but good. this albums at
least is listenable all the way through without getting
boring.

as to why he didn't 'move on' he probably likes this sound a
lot. when/if he gets bored with it he'll make something
different. the difference between this and ultravisiitor is
that this is more 'accesible' and that it has lots of acid
lines.
