Well I think it's better than Lateralus, but after listening
once, mind, I think they could have cut some of the numerous
epic songs.

The art is nice and very cool in a Harry Potter merchandise
kind of way. The alchemy-y pictures are good too, I think
they try to take away some of the seriousness that people
ascribe to Tool with it.

LAZY_EBAY

that's fucking ridiculous. some dude wants US $3,500 for 4
tickets. looking at actual bids, I see somebody has bid US
$999 for 2 tickets.

scalpers need their fucking testes removed and fed to them,
repeatedly. from what i've been seeing, thousands upon
thousands of tickets have gone through ebay, all for
absolute stupid prices. they're all too aware they can
capitalise on tool fans.

bloody hell.

It's a Tool album, no doubt about that. It sounds like it
could have been made in 1996, and I still hate their
paper-thin bass sound. And I hear melodies and lines lifted
straight from their older albums. Not just style, but
note-for-note. But I still love it, I knew what to expect
and they're such a tight band.

Fairly unremarkable all round imo. The Pot is nice but
sounds like most of their other "straight" songs. Treading
water in a distinctly sideways direction while admiring the
seagulls

the oh-so fancy artwork can't hide the fact that this album
is at best a mediocre rumination of the style they
established with aenima and lateralus (in which it got
boring already)

Super duper packaging. Labels should step up the packaging
as a way to deter mp3 downloads. But then again, it would
probably just jack prices and get the opposite result.

I think 10,000 days is awesome, but, i listened again to
lateralus this morning, and for me, they're miles apart. I
think it's less of a musical difference and more to do with
the fact that lateralus has a time and place for me, and
i've seen it live a few times. Maybe 10,000 days will grow
on me.
It just seems a bit shallower than lateralus.

this album is VERY disappointing

considering that over the years as tool release a new album
theres usually a great deal of evolution and innovation
within their realm
from album to album
they managed to do this with their packaging but
unfortunately not so much with the music

to me its a watered down mellow version of lateralus even
down to the artwork [minus the photos]

the arrangments are all predictable in the universe of tool
the guitar tones are all the same once again
maynards voice has become fully possessed by APC
can we get some more tablas on there too??

im not saying the material is not well done its just so what
we've heard this before from you next please

too much hype on this one
i read all kinds of shit about this before it came out
that it was their hardest heaviest effort to date
that it was a radicle change in style and sound

perhaps it will grow on me but im doubting it

whatever im going to go listen to Godflesh

I really liked Lateralus, I am having a hard time getting
into 10,000 Days. I really like The Pot and must admit I am
track skipping the two part one and the chant time filler
thing.

I am hoping that this will grow on me, I might be giving
this more chances than it deserves but I will perservere.

The bass on this album is what I am enjoying most and I find
that once you have heard a really complicated drum sequence
done once the rest just flow over you. I really liked the
drums he did for Skinny Puppy's last one and I fear that
that may just be a better album.

Remember 'Hooker with a Penis'? I hope Maynard is sitting
somewhere right now laughing because mindless sheep are
acting on expectations. Otherwise Maynard is a tool. 'the
Pot' reminds me of how I fealt on NIN 'the Perfect Drug'
which reminded me of Bon Jovi's 'Bad Medicine'.

Fluff and wank. Regurgitated, dumbed-down polyrhythms. You
can hove the most brilliant players in the world but if the
score is crap that's all they can play.

It's too bad Tool is so damn serious. But that's the only
way you can sell the shit to self-righteous,
morbidly-depressed fools.

You know how when you look back over Bowie's catalog, or
Neil Young's, or Pink Flyod's, the Dead's, or the Stones',
and there are some really bad, but ultra necessary albums
thrown in there?

Perhaps thats what this is. I really like 10,000 Days and
can respect the album needs to be listened as one piece.
Yet somehow, I can't bring myself to accept that this is the
band's last work, indicative of what they acheived
creatively. That being said, it sucks to drive to.

10,000 Days
1. Vicarious - nice, but on the radio. Skip ahead.
2. Jambi - rock.
3. Wings 1 - zzzzzzzz. snore. zzzzzzzzzz. skip.
4. Wings 2 - skip ahead till when it kicks in. Raises
fist.
5. The Pot - rock.
6. Lipan Conjuring - sing along to be funny, then skip.
7. Lost Keys - say something stupid an Australian accent and
then skip
8. Rosetta Stoned - rock
9. Intension - no incense or weed in car. skip.
10. Right in Two - skip ahead to when it kicks in or go
back and play RS

i liked lateralus a lot better than this, but there are some
good moments, wings 1 and 2 and rosetta stoned, but thats
it, the rest is either a rehash of undertow which is
alright, or perfect circle which i hate.

and i really like viginti tres for some reason.

so, you:

• compare this album to "really bad" albums
• think those "really bad" albums are "ultra necessary"
• say you really like this album
• yet skip more than half of it
• although you "respect the album needs to be listened as
one piece"

...
what the hell? o_O

Simple:

I never directly compared it to really bad albums per se. I
was addressing what other people were saying it was.

In consideration of some bands' artistic trajectory, some
albums are forgettable, but make sense in terms of them
being transisition records.

I understand as an album it requires a different level of
committment one can't give while in the car.

And for that matter it sucks to drive to, which was the
point of that post.
