The "muslim world" needs to grow up. It is now the 21st century. There are newspapers in muslim countries that are just as offensive to christians and jews with cartoons, but they don't storm embassies and demand apologies at gunpoint. The traditional muslim world was highly scientifically advanced but at somepoint it became bad to be open to new ideas and now they have regressed. I'm sure if they went back a thousand years they would actaully be more advanced in their attitudes. It seems a bit pathetic threatening bombs and jihad over some cartoons, I mean what would they threaten if people actually did something really bad to them.....er more bombs and er death to infidels? So surely if you've published cartoons, you've got nothing to loose by going one step further and denouncing the whole religion? |

we are in the 21st century. They are not. I'm not saying they're any less developed than us, but using "the 21st century" as some sort of "by now we should all be 100% civilised" just doesn't work. there's been lots of silly war and similar things as of late, and I wouldn't really say we've been any more civilised than they have... we're probably just being shown the bad sides because that's what "sells." Sure, there are thousands of muslims protesting, but I believe only a minority of them are extremists (like only a minority of christians harass (and occasionally kill) abortion doctors and gays). However, when there's a small red moving loudspeaker on a large uniform grey loudspeaker that doesn't move, the camera (and the eye) focuses on the moving red one; that's where the action is. "In todays news: thousands of muslims are peaceful!" vs "In todays news: Threats of war from the muslim world!" now imagine being on the other side. "In todays news: Many danish people didn't publish the cartoons" vs "In todays news: Danish newspaper mocks the prophet Muhammed!" of course anyone would get upset, and as a result of that, there are people walking in the streets protesting and burning flags, but just because the red speaker and the white one are in the same room doesn't make them the same. |
