nacmat I think you need to have open dialog with these
groups otherwise you have no chance of changing anything in
the future. The situation with the IRA in Northern Ireland
only got better when talks opened properly between all
sides.

post-transicion...

"the kind who want peace to come easily but then

yep, I'm sure that's an accurate description of Marx, the
American Left, Spanish people, the Prime Minister of Spain,
etc. --

Actually, its probably more an accurate description of you.
That is, without the 'want peace' part.

xanatos you know whats your problem.

your too busy sucking nacmats dick and every other socialist
left extremist in this thread to realize whats really going
on in the world. lets take ego out of the equation for a
second. no where in this country has socialism every aspired
to anything but a self profiting gov't which takes no
concern about others well being. that be the case not only
has spain lost a functioning economy, they're in no position
to get any assistance from the US unless they appoint
another candidate and for that alone to take place hmm its
not easy to say the least. so please stop being saying
things are better now. it hasn't even been a week since the
bombing. i suppose spains past history as a socialist party
plays no part in logic.

to make it plain and simple for you to understand

people voted out of fear for the wrong reasons. they will
regret it. the people who died in that train deserve better.

Ra! ra! go! constructive critisism! go!

I think when we get to the point where we're calling each
other wank-stains and bot-floggers back and forth it's time
to take a breather.
Shame since there's some worthy opinions in here, from what
I read. Didn't read it all cos, frankly, political debate
bores the tits off me, but I thought that starting out by
calling the Spanish people spineless was a bit tactless.

Yeah, you're right, socialism doesn't work...
but you know what does?

Stopping terrorism through aggressive war and occupation!
Remember how Israel stopped terror by occupying the West
Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967? Or how we stopped Al Qaeda
from (repeatedly) hitting Turkey and Spain by outsting the
Saddam Hussein regime from power last year. I don't know
why the Spaniards just won't get that through their
cocksucking communist skulls? I don't know why so many
Europeans have trouble with the concept of neverending
warfare to stop terror on our soils, its really so simple.
Maybe the Spaniards will wake up next election, but by then
I'm sure the communist prime minister will already have
assumed full dictatorial control.

oo stick you!

Anyway, being a student and avid follower of politics, i
must refer the right honourable gentleman to Bernstien's
Revisionism.

In about the 1920s, a new form of socialism had arrived.
While Marx had said that socialism could happen through the
ballot box, the real social was a revolutionary creed.

Bernstien had the revolutionary idea that capitalism could
be 'tamed' rather than abolished. Therefore,
collectivisation of industry could be replaced by careful
'nationalisation' (see 1945's Atlee Labour government),
while private industry could still work. Therefore, european
social democracy was flavoured by a more progresive liberal
stand point. Therefore, the individual could realise their
potential, with the state being positive in this, i.e. NHS,
welfare state etc....

Then, as the new right politics influenced by Adam Smith's
18th century, social democracy around Europe began to fail,
as the long boom of the 1960s died. With the rise of
Thatcher and Reagan, the left had to rethink its aims.

Therefore, a 'New' revisionism was created. Now, capitalism
was less and less controlled, and the industries that were
privatised stayed privatised. Rights and responsibilties
were now the aim of the game. The 'socialist' government of
Blair now was based on the ideology of communitarian
liberalism. Where the individual is part of a community, and
has rights, i.e. the right to work, health etc, but also
responsibilities, to get into and stay in employment, pay
taxes and generally give back to the community.

Therefore, when you say that they have got a 'communist'
government, it would be wise to think that the term is a
contenous one, and not a blanket term for a government that
doesn't rely on the free market to help everyone.

it is a bit silly, and not very helpful really in this
'adult' discussion about the reprucussions of the sunday's
election result.

While i would agree that you can really negociate with these
terrorists, it isnt really wise to stoke the polarised
Islamic world with dubious wars, an aggressive media that
paints anyone who wears a turban as a 'suspect' and
Guantanamo bay.

this whole idea of Spain bowing for the terrorists is so
incredibly patronising.

it leaves me gasping for air.

the people of Spain voted democratically. the larger part of
the people wanted political change.

there is NO way that anyone can prove that the Spanish were
voting out of 'fear'.

completely ridiculous.

Isn't Tony Blair also a socialist and Chirac more rightwing?
If so then it doesn't really matter wether you're left- or
rightwing where issues like the war and occupation are
concerned, does it? Anyway I don't think anyone can convince
the other to change their opinion on a messageboard like
this one.

spain is not sleeping with the enemy.

Zapatero has said he is committed to the war against terror,
and bush has said they they are looking forward to working
together.
See yahoo news

Zapatero is not committed to the US occupation of iraq, but
that is a completely different issue to the war against
terror ... unless you watch fox news etc ....

If you want to know why its a different issue,

Tony made one mistake, he brought WMD into the equation over
Iraq. It gave the opposers some argument to use against him.
It was a weak and unnessary thing to do; it was always about
the humanitarian issue. He felt he needed more of a reason
to do what always needed to be done. That was his mistake.
