I don't know it I really believe in God, or Jesus, but I do
know the Christian church here, where I am, makes this a
better place for almost everyone here, that's good enough
for me... for now. The only way anyone is going to be RIGHT
about a topic like this is when they die, then they can see
where they end up.

it would be desirable, travis, if you would cease to fill in
blanks which are not there. I am married to a Christian and
I do not consider her stupid or inferior. I myself was
brought up a Catholic, and have studied Religion for some
years.

Because I said that Faith is a thing easily manipulated,
does not mean you can logically imply that I consider
Christians to be lowly and dumb.

a topic like what? this isn't a topic attacking Religion.
This was a thread started to throw illumination on certain
Christian Rites, on their roots and how they came into
being. This is not a thread saying 'There is no God' or
'There is a God'.

Oh I don't mean THIS topic in particular, just the whole,
''is religion full of bullshit or not? Are we all
misinformed fools?" thing. I'm pretty neutral. I do know I
really like communion bread.

mistahkurtz, i don't have anything against the french at
all, except their tendency to reply to the wrong people.
i've even been known to quote the french, with mixed
results.

marlowe, you take everything so seriously and then someone
is supposed to know you're being "light hearted," and then
you say they are being an "anal cunt"? honestly, i wasn't
bothered that you replied nitpicking and insulting, but
you're not exactly supporting your contention that you are
"light hearted." why the hypersensitivity to minor
criticism? perhaps you'd like to seek answers to your
persistent inner conflict at our bible study this evening?

when I called you an Anal Cunt, I was again being
light-hearted - if you don't know when I'm being serious and
when I'm being light-hearted, that's too bad.

And no, I don't think I'll join you in your bible study this
evening. Would you care to join me in my Talmud Study Class
tomorrow night?

you pay for the cab, pal, i'll be there.

i think some people tend to throw the words "anal cunt"
around more lightly than i am used to. i would rather you
just informed me that i had mistaken your tone than be
called an "anal cunt" though. sorry for the
misunderstanding, though...

Don't worry about it. Lots of people miss the light-hearted
aspect of my character because I don't go 'Boom Boom' or
'J/K' at the end. That is intentional, because it puts the
onus on them to decipher the intent. It's just a little fun
for me in my infirmity.

hummmm

i see preaching of a different sort all over here, as well
as psuedo-intellectual babble.....sad

i too find it 'funny' that the one's that so vehemently deny
there is a God, keep bringing it up.....seems like they
can't deal with others having their OWN belief system.

btw.....all these FACTS are easily found in any
encycopedia....and are nothing new to me. people aren't as
uninformed as you suppose.

btw....men are impefect, when they put their fingers in
things.....you get good and bad consequences.

and those are da FACTS!

I haven't read any of the shit anyone else typed but
Christianity is a bullshit control method. A religion
founded upon others ideas. I was reading an interesting
thing about how the story of Noah and his Ark is nothing
more than a Christian version of an ancient story which is
prevalent in most major beleifs since the dawn of time.

Christian religions have just taken the good work of a very
important freedom fighter and used his work as the bases for
resticting freedom. A man who gave up his life for his
beliefs, only to have himself used as the basis for more
oppression.

This thread wasn't directed personally at you, you know
LeCoeur - I wasn't saying 'That LeCoeur is well uninformed'.
There are plenty of people around to whom this information
is new. And who has been going around saying 'There is no
God'? That has nothing to do with this thread, as I priorly
stated.

And why is anything I said, or most of what else has been
said here, pseudo-intellectual babble? To me, it's a
documentation of part of one particular religion's rites -
it's not pseudo-intellectual, and it's not babble - it's a
mere statement of what came prior to the Jesus Myth (and it
is partly just an extension of a myth). I never denied the
existence of God, I never denied the existence of the one
the Greeks named 'Jesus Christ'. And, as far as I can
recall, the remainder of this thread did not concern itself
with religion bashing, apart from a couple of questions and
some non-serious banter as is to be expected in any
conversation involving a largish group of people.

So I don't understand why you are patronising several
members here with your condescension.

it's good to discuss such things wether you agree or not.
the way i look at it is that i may not agree with marlowe,
but i can take what he is saying and question my beliefs
(which is a good thing to me) and then as a result make my
faith stronger or re examine how i feel.

im sure all aspects of religion are not true, well just look
at how many are out there.. but hey if following a religions
helps people to follow a good moral code of loving one and
other and treating eachother kindly then it can't be too
bad. it's when you believe something blindly and refuse to
question it, then it can be misleadng.. if that last point
makes sense?

absolutely it's good to have open dialogue. but tell me, if
you were black or gay or disabled how would you like to be
constantly bombarded with literature on how you're a waste
of life when you just want to talk about music and such?
obviously no one's saying christians are a waste but it's
still a completely inappropriate and unprompted negative
campaign to belittle people who follow the faith.

We all have our own way of ''believing'', I'm not some
die-hard Christian who does EVERYTHING I'm told and had my
faith handed to me all wrapped up with a bow. I deviate from
some of their ideas, I think for myself. I even...
masturbate...

*lightning

My beliefs aren't really the church's package, but I like
some of the aspects of what they teach, some of the
values... I also disagree with some of them. So I believe
what I want to, and I consider myself a Christian.

But the various splinter factions of Christianity all tell
you it is an all or nothing deal.

There is nothing wrong with looking to historical figures
for guidence, but if you choose to do it, but to do so
blindely, without trying to establish the full story behind,
what is given by some as fact, is foolish.

*squints

Shave my what? My pears? Geez, I think I need glasses.

Ec- And I don't follow Jesus, really... just his message. My
priest has more of an impact than he does... that mofo tells
some GREAT stories at mass, relating to the bible, ''real
life'', whatever. It does nothing but good. He's not leading
us astray or anything, or pulling the wool over our eyes.

I know there's historical inconsistencies, maybe some
propaganda of sorts... it just never really mattered to me.
The only experiences I have with Christianity are positive
ones. I'm not blind, I can pick out the bullshit from the
good stuff.

It might have/does cause some problems outside of my little
bubble, but that's not Jesus Christ, that's humanity, that's
everybody, of every faith.

my father is a minister...

and growing up, i had always been a believer... in
everything that the bible had said. true faith... belief in
something i could never see.

one day, he took me aside and told me that he doesn't
believe in what the bible says, that he only relies in the
morality and ethics within it.

it was from that point on that my faith died. it's almost
surreal to remember the exact point in your life when you
lost your faith.

titsworth i think it's unfair to take an intellectual
discussion about religious origins and label it as a bash on
christianity.

but tell me, if
you were black or gay or disabled how would you like to be
constantly bombarded with literature on how you're a waste
of life when you just want to talk about music and such?

part of what makes a messageboard entertaining is the
variety of topics discussed. if every single thread was
"AFX RULES" or "HOORAY FOR AE" it would get old VERY fast.

i checked the top of the page and the title of the thread is
'some truths about jesus christ'. clicking that link, you
HAD to know what the topic was going to be. the option to
read the topic or not is in your hands. if i was black and
saw a thread labeled "niggaz steal tv's" i probably would
choose not to read it.

and my thoughts on life death and everything are the
following:
when you go to sleep and dream, there may be 10, 20 people
in your dreamworld all seemingly thinking independently with
their own ideas and opinions and dialogue and choices. are
we god when we go to bed? or is god in bed right now?
that's all the thought i really bother to put to it.

i think the kinds of people that need a religion or need a
belief system to explain what's before and after life would
make excellent psychologists because they believe there's an
explanation for everything. i'm too open minded to really
make any judgements, which is probably why i'm leaning
towards the crazy dream idea. i think if i can make it till
my death without killing anybody i should be good.

anyone who reads my post and sees it as saying "christians
are scum" than you are truly a closed minded fanatic that
will live an empty life.

Titsworth, are you on some sort of crusade against short
posts? We don't all have to type a minimum of 50 words in
order to get a point across and sometimes we just don't feel
like being eloquent. The lengh of posts is no proof of any
intellectual superiority but i get the impression that you
seem to think it is. Why this condescending attitude towards
the brief? You're a Christian, you should appreciate the
value of simplicity eh?

Fuck me this thread is getting hot. I'm going to take off
all my clothes.

I love the way that people clearly aren't reading each
others posts. Certain people are just saying the same thing
again and again. It gets tedious to see people repeating
themselves then someone acts if they can't read what's
written. They get a bee in their bonnet and just go off.
Fucking hell this pisses me off.
I can see why religion has caused so many wars now. Anyone
with a shred of intelligence can see, from Marlowes first
post, that he's sharing something that he's read and founf
interesting. I for one found that interesting as everyday my
boss is trying to convert me to Christianity. Much of what
he says is contradictory to what he's said before. He says
one thing and then a while later says something that goes
completely against it. He so blindly follows what the bible
says that he can't for one second think about what he's
saying/regurgitating.
What I hate is his highly homophobic standpoint. This
insults me a lot. Not because I'm gay but because I have
close friends who are. To him all gay people are the Devils
work. He interprets the bible one way and that way is all
that matters. I'm probably just rambling here and making no
sense. I just wanted to say how much it pisses me off that
some people leap to defend something they believe in without
even reading/listening to what someone has said........

It's sad.

If God wanted everyone to be Christians he wouldn't contact
us through a book. The problem is that books are up for
interpretation and MANY people forget that fact. So when I
see a group of christians (i'm not talking about anyone
here... yet) and they all believe the EXACT same thing on
EVERY ASPECT of the bible, i really wonder if those people
have even read the bible or if their beliefs we're just
spoonfed to them.

I don't understand why Christians get so upset when someone
questions their worldview.

Is it not fair game to debate ideas? Socialism versus free
market capitalism versus anarchism? Windows versus Linux?
Theism versus atheism?

And don't give me the old line about how we should stick to
music. Everything from drugs to politics to movies to
sexuality gets discussed here.

The homophobic thing never sat right with me either... I
have no gay friends, at all. They simply don't exist here in
the circles that I go round with. That's because they'd be
ridiculed or terrorised by the close-mindedness of certain
people I know. They simply detest gay people because they
find it disgusting (you can literally see an image of a cock
entering a bloke's arse pop in their head when they talk
about homosexuality). But as narrow minded and homophobic as
these people are, they feel this way because they personally
find it disgusting (because like, they're too butch n stuff
and only think of pussy etc). They don't think it's wrong
because a book told them it is. They made their choice with
their heart and guts, not through faith and a sermon. Is
that me just simplifying everything and coming up with
something ridiculous? Well it wouldn't be the first time I
guess...

From my own view I can't ever imagine putting someone's dick
in my mouth, but I at least know and understand that others
love people of the same sex. And I don't think they'll burn
in hell for it either

"if

constantly bombarded with literature on how you're a waste

BUT:
black = no choice
gay = no choice
christian = your choice.

I don't support ridiculing christians or any other religion,
but I also don't support comparing what religion you are to
skin color or sexuality. There is really not much culture
integrated into christianity as there is in, say, being
