our so-called christian era is drawing to a close, eventually the gospel of unconditional love and forgiveness will overtake the dogmatism, hypocritical moralizing and judgementalism of orthodoxy. or so i've heard...
i consider myself a follower of jesus, but not a christian in the orthodox sense (i don't believe that he died for any sins or that his dying in itself saved anyone). one thing i know for sure, and i know very little really, is that jesus would not care if you were a vegetarian or not.
when i was in college, i worked at pizza hut, and one of my coworkers would tease me about being vegetarian, singing "eat more meat! don't be a vegetarian!" in the kitchen. sad ending to the story, he's now in prison for assault, rape and murder.

High fruit and vegetable consumption has been associated with a reduced risk for cardiovascular disease, several common cancers, and other chronic diseases (such as macular degeneration and cataracts). Potential preventative mechanisms identified in human studies include: antioxidant activity, increased detoxification, immune stimulation,
decreased blood clotting, reduced blood pressure, anti-bacterial / -viral activity, and improved cholesterol
metabolism.
Legumes (e.g., beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts) are excellent sources of protein, fiber, and a variety of micro-nutrients and phytochemicals that may protect against
disease. Isoflavones found in soybeans are associated with a decreased risk of prostate cancer and increased bone mineral density in post-menopausal women.
Regular consumption of nuts has been associated with lower risk for heart disease and mortality. This is likely due to their favorable fatty acid profile, fiber, copper, magnesium, vitamin E, plant sterols, and various phytochemicals. Walnuts are particularly noteworthy because they are rich in the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, which has anti-blood-clotting properties.
Whole-grain consumption is associated with a reduced risk for heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and stomach and colon cancer. Possible protective mechanisms include fiber, oligosac-charides and other fermentable carbo-hydrates, trace minerals, vitamins, phytoestrogens, and antioxidants.

Nice diet tips. BE CAREFUL however if you drink herbal teas. Teas that feature licorice, gingko etc., can still exert action upon various diseases AND produce side-effects. They are technically called "infusions", and are used by many herbalists and naturopaths as a delivery form of the herb's natural constituents into the body.
In fact, of all forms of alternative therapy, it is the easiest to abuse herbal remedies. When you're young and healthy though, it's less of a concern.
Herbal remedies still contain many toxic compounds, and can cause side-effects with prolonged use.
My suggestion is to stick with green tea. It's the true tea, and the one with an incredible amount of positive literature to back it up. Black tea is in essence, fermented green tea. The body of research on green tea and cancer prevention is astounding. There are a butt-load of benefits to drinking green tea. There is also an amino acid called L-theanine which counteracts the anxiety that can be produced with too much caffeine intake.

I agree. I've read the Bible from nearly cover to cover (in my own time, not at some corrupt church).
Jesus was otherworldly, there is no doubt about that. I don't like to be categorized with Christians, generally because of their overabundance of ignorance. I can count on my right hand, the number of times I've met someone who is worthy of the Christian name.
"Christians" are among the biggest hypocrites I have laid eyes on.

cathars-is, as soon as people realize that the old testament was written by humans, people will stop using it to justify using violence to solve problems and promoting judgement of their brothers (for the record, i use "brothers" meaning both genders).
our difficulties, we create for ourselves. each of us must learn to see the redeemed spirit in every other individual. if you see a person for who they really are, then you will not even think to pass judgement on them.
also for the record, it's not my intention to criticize any individual or their beliefs, only to question the choice to deny one's brothers.
what does this have to do with vegetarianism? something, i'm sure...

most meat eaters dont eat fruits and vegetables much though.
ive been reading and I came across this bit of info:
humans have a long digestive tract which means its not meant for eating meat(short digestive tracts are found predatory animals). also, if a species is meant to be able to eat meat is should also be able to consume bone (which humans cannot) and should also always eat flesh uncooked. you decide what you think but the only reason this canine teeth thing is here is because of the use of fire and cooking of meat, which has made a change in the ability of the tooth to eat meat efficiently. humans cheat in this respect by using fire to cook things.

Plaidzebra - I think we share a telepathic connection. Your last statement sounds like a canned speech that I give to everyone who asks me about Christianity.
The old testament was written by humans....possibly even an ancient version of David Koresh, or one who claims to have heard or seen God. Perhaps these folk found peyote, or mushrooms.
In all sense, the old testament was clearly written by humans, it bleeds with human instinct and human nature. "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" is possibly the most idiotic statement any God could make and I don't care if I go to hell for saying it. When I see Jews and Muslims firing rockets at eachother day and night in continuous revenge you can clearly see my point. I don't think a true God would have missed this simple logic.
Jesus was anything but human in mind and spirit.

THe advent of fire has caused our digestive tracts to rely on cooking. The evolution of various pathogenic bacteria also requires meat to be cooked. The appendix is thought to have allowed humans to eat raw flesh thousands of years ago.
We can consume bone. In fact, humans with adequate stomach acid are able to digest and absorb hydroxyapatite (bone matrix). Salmon bones are an excellent source of calcium.
Animal proteins and vitamins are more readily absorbed by humans than plant counterparts (in some cases, quite significantly). Many animal source vitamins are also absorbed more effectively. In all cases, animal protein has a greater bioavailability, protein efficiency ratio, net utilization and amino acid profile in humans.
B12 is essential to human functioning and cannot be found anywhere but animal products. The B12 found in sea algae appears to be very un-absorbable in humans as well.
I'm tired of arguing about human physiology. Humans were meant to eat both plants and animals. This is not to say that one can't adopt a vegetarian diet, but certain and very simple precautions must be made.
Do you know how many sickly vegetarians walk into my office on a daily basis? They may not have cancer or heart disease, but they're frail, undernourished, pale, cold and their hair and skin look absolutely terrible. These are the vegetarians who don't pay attention to what the body needs. A vegetarian who takes the necessary precautions can be exceptionally healthy.

COME EAT AT LES CHEVRES RESTAURANT, 1201 Van Horne avenue, montreal, quebec. a vegetable (but not vegetarian) based restaurant that serves high gastronomy food in a chic environment at a reasonable cost, with great service, great wine, and good music (okay, its not aphex or anything like that, but still great jazz)
why is it not vegetarian you ask? well, the idea of the restaurant is to explore all the possibilities of the vegetables we have available to us. texture, color, flavor, shapes.
we use products such as butter, cream, milk, and cheese, as well as eggs, and you can always order a meat or fish of the day. tonight, we served filet mignon on a bed of gnocchi, lardons, and cabbage, with a creamy mustardy meat jus, and there was also a swordfish on green beans, roasted tomatoes, romano beans, and mini rutabega. COME EAT!!!
next week, we will have a 10 service tomato menu. each of the services will include a tomato in one form or another, the desserts (there are four) will begin with a tomato pre-dessert, and then continue with chocolaty and fruity desserts. we have tons of tomatoes, all kinds, too... green zebra, purple calabash, black plum, tangella, banana tomato, yellow tomato, vine tomato, grape tomato... and we are still looking at getting more varieties. if you want to eat vegetarian, and eat quality vegetarian, you can certainly do it where i work. joey

OMG you're probably right. Joking aside, I have had a few clients who get REALLY moody when their protein intake falls low enough. Protein is required for the formation of many neurotransmitters responsible for mood.
A B-complex supplement (containing all the B vitamins), vitamin C and some good non-allergenic high protein foods are a good generic fix for grouchiness earthleakage.

It looks like Quorn is a complete protein. I'm quite skeptical of the shit myself. I've read quite a bit of documentation on quorn from the manufacturer itself to various other so- called "third parties".
Quorn has been under fire recently from many health agencies and some angered citizens who ended up with allergic reactions. Most of the documentation on Quorn is in the form of marketing pitches designed to look like an official agency analysis.
There have been an excess of misleading and contradictory claims about Qrap to suggest that it is suitable for widespread consumption. Just eat some eggs.

i think quorn is quite incredible: it just tastes like meat and has B12 i believe: the stuff it's made of is somehow similar to tofu. the first argument is sometimes reason to hassle me, i do miss the snacks though (sinned with 3 little snacks yesterday: ' i wanted to make sure they werent vegetarian as the package said'. i just really wanted deep fried snacks, drunk) and the so called 'southern style burger' really tastes like chicken burgers. i feel your scepticism to the stuff though; i think it sucks its just as expensive as meat. being a vegie isnt inexpensive .

there are tons of reciepes out there, in books and on the internet. I have lots of them.
If you have a blender, a juicer, a foodmixer and a dehydrator you can do just about anything you can imagine [true!].
I usually eat salads, but I am going to use my blender a lot more this autumn...

well... dunno what I can write on this board, most of it sounds crazy to the average person! but I guess most of what I write here is crazy in one way or another.
I haven't done anything using my blender yet, but some raw-cheese. This isn't cheese at all, but you mix different things together to get a similar thing (and that's how rawfood recipies works, you can do burgers/bread/pizza/pies/cake and lots of things).
But I will be doing smoothies and various mixes this fall. they taste real good.
Salads, I eat them just about every evening, but a lot of people seem to think they're not enough as a meal...
I can tell you one thing you learn during the transition to becoming a rawfoodist; there are two types of hunger.
One type of hunger is the hunger for vitamins and minerals, the other type is the hunger for 'filling up your stommach'.
heh... I try to make it sound less crazy here ;)
Please ask further questions, if you have them... The more rawfoodists on earth - the better earth!

youre sure the raw foodists are not a sect or something?
Actually I've been asked that before ;) When I was new to raw food it was so amazing I wanted to tell everybody - but it doesn't work that way. you should be thankful you're open enough to ask questions without being too negative about it.
But the rawfood diet - is all about the diet. A rawfooddiet is a diet consisting of atleast 75% rawfood. And your diet is up to you, it has nothing to do with anything else.
But if you become raw - it's like a great eyeopener... you'll get a whole new way of looking at the world.
For me rawfood bound a lot of the ideas I had in the past together into a big whole...
i do have this mixer that has this utencil for chopping, isnt exactly the same as a blender though.
yeah. a mixer is good for other stuff than the blender, since a blender will keep everything (in the blender) and the mixer won't.
anyway, if you want to do anything (I assume) that's hard/solid and not soft, you need a food dehydrator...
Keep in mind though, that the idea of eating raw food is weird only because you were raised on cooked food...
