Will there be links to the message board in the discog. Such
as "find a thread on this release" or "discuss this
release"? That sort of thing could be good. Although that
could just be laziness on my behalf. It would encourage
people to discuss music more.

You mean there is more to this site, than just a
messageboard ?

What a concept. August 7th, 2003 ?

the poll is interesting and i wish the crew luck with the
board.. i'd have to agree it's been having problems lately,
seems fine today tho. it's a very good thing there are so
many smart, responsible, and sensible moderators who can
tell a troublemaker from someone defending him- or herself
from unfair flaming or someone debating or trying to excite
people with new ideas and fresh opinions. it's so important
to distinguish that difference.

and i definitely agree that bans should always be explained
EXCEPT where obvious (eg: a user makes 60 accounts, a user
makes 60 threads in an hour, etc.), because otherwise just
arbitrarily removing people can have a very devestating
effect on board morale (think mcarthy hearings).

Overrall this MB is verry tame, with many morre nice people
than fools. I don't think the measurres have to be drrastic,
just nip things in the bud beforre they kick off by eitherr
banning the trroublemakerr (with a rreason forr doing so, to
prrevent morre trrouble) then closing the topic.
The Mods should just do it, it's not that big a deal closing
a topic.

dictionary.com definition of a word based on the U.S. anti-communist
hearings in the mid-20th century.. suspected communists (who
99% of the time weren't) were blacklisted and either
wouldn't work again, were shunned, or right-out disappeared

i know it's been said before, but just to throw in my
opinion.

the amount of 'on-topic' discussion is going to fluxuate
constantly on ANY message board. when a new album of
interest is released people are going to talk more about
things realated to that, and so on.

like it or not, when you create a messageboard/community you
do actually in fact create a community. people form
friendships, and enemies. after a while conversations
develop. you'll never be able to fully stamp that out. and
seeing as how the powers that be seem to be staunchly
opposed to creating a 'chat room' i think we'll all have to
deal with a fluxuating level of off-topic banter.

it's a balancing act. do you want an involved community of
people who like each, other discussing various topics
circled arount idm music? or, do you just want to create an
online idm reference point?

i personally think it's a big mistake to close down the
messageboard portion of the site. it serves to keep people
interested. and that is the point of a website right? to
keep people interested in what's going on on the site?

if you close down the messageboard, sure you'll get rid of
some of the troublemakers, but, you'll also lose many of the
valued members; as they wander off and find new places to go
to form bonds with people who are interested in the same
things they are.

"another idea. lead by example - close more threads and make

sure you explain why at the end of each thread you close."

i agree with this. the best leaders lead from the front, not
the back. maybe you should also look into starting more
topics for people to chat on.

i don't really see what could be that childish on an afx
site...rdj himself is a 12 yr old trapped in a, er....12 yr
old body!

in more important matters, phobs, you like !POLYGON WINDOW!
more than caustic crap? :P

heh, seriously, i could have swore i've read a post saying
that you dug polygon, quoting that it was "his first real
abulm," or something along those lines...

maybe you yourself have matured, and are looking at a motley
crew of afx fans that haven't changed at all, through new
lenses?

also, i'll quote what i just said in the .nu chatroom on
slsk...

"if phobia wants to cry about it...he should give the rights
to someone else"

i say: SHUT IT DOWN! how long have you played this tired,
old boreing game? how many points do people have? tooo many.
you need a new life, we need a new life. and if it's that
detrimental to the fragile minds of these warpers...let
someone else own the site, then they can tell ppl to skrew
themselves, without having to be all PR. or simply shut the
shit down theirselves.

OR you can create another moniker, give it admin rights, and
let that be your "cunt" persona, and tell ppl to wank
off/ban them, via this persona (wait, that was done in some
cheassy american kids book...)

anyways, i'm nihilistic, and feel that the only way to
create something beautiful, is to tear it down.

this ant hill needs to be kicked man...BAD!

my only complaint about the site recently, is how many
people are constantly complaining about the site recently.

go with the flow.

when rdj or autechre or []p comes out with a new album the
smartest people interested in the genre will be here
discussing it intelligently. until then they'll talk about
their peters and how hot it is in kerblaqistan.

if the cost of the server storage/bandwidth is becoming an
issue then i say go on a fundraising pledge drive. closing
up shop is a lame way out. ban the trolls/troublemakers, and
leave the board for the community.

i'll shut up now.

i think phobia is doing a good job. i'm trying to cut down
on my spamming of my music, by keeping it in one thread only
as much as possible. the only other time i'll mention it is
when someone posts some music, and i'll want them to listen
to mine in return.

anyways, i apologize phobia if my spamming has caused
problems lately. it will come to an end.

btw, i know everyone probably says this, but i think you're
doing a great job, and have been ever since AFX Community.
:-D

Do what you have to do.

the key word is MUSIC 90 percent of the topics should
be about music or musicans otherwise one is posting too
much....

phob is right : once the site is up there should be more
music discussion.
