This is more towards the older members but feel free to chime in and add your thoughts.
What do you think of XLT as a community lately. Its drastically different from when i first joined and even the year before that i lurked.
In the past XLT was a distinct place as a community and thats what made it popular. It was unique.
It seems as things kind of died down like a party at 3am when things slow down and arent so crazy.
Do you agree or disagree? What are your thoughts?
I dont mean the ebb and flow either. Because all boards have downtime but those old 2001 members can probably see the gradual change over the years

well, so far this has been informative...
I agree: xlt has changed lately, and it is not for the better.
I do believe, however, that fault lies on both sides of the (possibly imaginary) bordr... it's hard to put what I'm thinking into (english) words right now, but.. whoever you are: you're not entirely without blame, and that goes for me too.

Well, I don't think it hsd fundamentally changed a whole lot, but the people I formed the closest eFriendships with over the past two or three years don't post here very much anymore... which basically means I don't post here as much either.

i'm not exactly uber old school, but i can say that it used to be much more interesting around here. posts were generally funnier and much more original. even afx topics were exciting because no one had a place to discuss the music before aphextwin.nu
these days xlt really bores the living daylights out of me at times.
imho.

I think thats a huge thing. I'll be honest there are certain members that bring alot to the table when they post here. I am kind of bummed that alot of these posters rarely if ever show up.
Alot of these old schoolers really added to the flavor.
To me this place is kind of dwindling down on its uniqueness in that particular sense.
Maybe I'm just living in the past

Yeah, I'm not as entertained with xlt as I used to be... but, honestly, I think that has more to do with me than the actual board.
I mean, there's still around 40-50 people logged in at any given time, so it's not really like the place has slowed down, nahmeen?

swings and roundabouts really. there are a few personality clashes, but most people get on well it seems. i think a lot of problems on this board and any board for that matter arrise from miscommunication and misinterpretations of the context of what people are saying. for example, sarcasm is often not picked up on, and regarded as hostile behaviour, when its just a shit joke.

i've generally always felt outside the "community," never been a part of it. i didn't come around much early on and i don't think i posted, i just surfed a bit and read some threads, if i had an id for the old aphex.nu board (i think i might have) i don't remember it.
people in general seem much more jaded about electronic music, now they tend to talk more about how it sucks or how it changed unfavorably or about how new artists are just ripping off the old artists etc.
these are some random thoughts and are incomplete, but hey i'm at work so i've gotta keep busy!

exactly! thats why i targeted older members in the opening post. and as noted there was just some sort of a spark or some sort of chemistry when all these elements were combined.
You had posters who are now missing or lurking:
Princo Baron Dolleater Wizards Teeth amonburne etc etc
i am not going to make a list but you get the general idea.
There was abundance of originality and hilarity, and now it seems generally more serious as opposed to the insane sillyness it once was.

the insane sillyness is what we need back
we also need people who accept the insane sillyness and participate in it with full vigor instead of sulking in a corner going "rururuuuuuurgh"
note also that there are few people left of the board capable of doing either of those things (except for sulking, but in most cases a degree of sulking is permissible and even encouraged these days).

Sure but a large number of those posters dont really that post. Look at the number of members we have as oppised to regulars. We have about 30 posters keeping this board at a constant.
I could copy and paste the logged in list and bold the names of actual regular users. Plus we have an influx of new users that dont contain the "spark" that i speak of. It appears that its often times a failed attempt followed by an over reaction towards the moderators.
There was only one problem with moderation technically. One real problem where two members got de modded. The rest is just opiniated garbage.
Sometimes there is just too much nitpicking and whining going around and then when you compare that to three years ago to this date it was drastically different.
I do understand that we are all getting older and that may play a part to that.

The creativity was insane. I had never seen anything like it on a mb before and i havent seen it to this day. Sure you will have one or two at various other message boards but this was a community of the most rare posters i had ever seen.
I still have a bunch of favorites saved. I could give examples of just how the course of things would go and the difference of today

I can also see a distict change over the past few months. I rarly see a thread I can get my teeth into. When I first went to aphextwin.nu it was very entertaining and was 50/50 music and sillyness unfortunatly what has happened is that [waits for backlash] there is very few good releases nowadays and people who were funny became abusive or very clichey.
I think new people are now intimidated with a few rare exeptions (tridenti) and music decussion as come down to "it's great" or "it's crappy".
I hope that when xlt v2 starts that the uncatogorised threads will stay and that old timers (me included) aren't so hostile to newbys. When XLT was down for a while I experenced at WATMM what most newbys must experience here and it deters you from visiting/contributing.

I think the whole "outside-of-the-clique" feeling makes a lot of members hold back, ie. possibly not utilizing their being-funny-potentiality for the fear of being even more shut out / ignored or even banned by the premium-mob.

Yeah i agree. It was a good mix then and we were blessed with a number of good releases coming out. As if the IDM community was at its peak. Great releases, tons of net labels, lots of posts.
I dont think that newbies should be afriad to be silly but i think on the other hand us older members should be a welcoming guiding hand. Thats what was great about when i joined. I just tried to jump in and join the fun and it went well.
Sure there was a number of posters that didnt like me but they were all that regular anyways.
You can see a difference in the personality of posters aswell over the course of time. we all have our problems but the old XLT was a great escape for that.
Other boards didnt even come close to that although i didnt really start posting elsewhere until last year.

Don't vote for Donald Tusk, who represents circles hostile towards Poland. His party - Citizen Platform - is guided by such people as Jan Maria Rokita (really Izaak Goldwicht) and Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz (really Hayka Grundbaum).
I stand against the Masonic-Brusselian (sp?) Internationale with Islamic tendencies in germanized Europe. Kashube Tusk is a runner for the forces trying to smash the Holy Unity of our Nation. Long live Poland!!
