I don't notice too many differences, although the thread
titles do seem less interesting than they used to. I think
that's due to my own increasing indifference though. I'm
much less of a fanboy than I was when I first joined. I also
miss certain members who used to frequent this place, like
Amonbrune, titsworth, and others that elude my memory at the
moment.

Remember that guy named 'BILE'? He (she?) had a short stint
but it was a laugh riot.

"It seems as things kind of died down like a party at
3am
when things slow down and arent so crazy."

This is the perfect analogy. I've been thinking this for
ages, and pretty much given up on xlt because of it. It used
to be wonderful, now it's not so much.

All other points worthy of being brought up have been, so
all I'll reiterate is that what xlt needs.... is the wacky
hilarity that used to make it great. We're all in agreement
there.

I've especially noticed your penchant and knack for this
stuff, vpusha; last memorable time was the pictures of the
guy doing sign-language. Brilliant; made me laugh hella
lots. It unfortunately didn't spawn lots of similarly zany
threads over the time that followed, but i think it's a
thing with which we'll have to have patience.

Too much of the same discussions going on. A lot of people
who think they're funny but really aren't. I rarely visit
messageboards in general anymore.

Never really had a blast when I joined, but at least it was
entertaining from time to time. It's just boring now.

Yeah, but surreal threads are greeted with cynicism and
bitterness by a few, which probably turns people off making
them.

And don't worry, even if the reception to them was warmer-I
wouldn't start making any posts like that. I don't have the
knack. ;-)

For me the challenge of writing something funny or
interesting here is a bit too hard to do without getting
personally attacked by people I respect.

My hesitation usually ends in a bounty of banality.

never fucking mind them. If they want to be grumpy
old men, that's their problem, and that a few other
people should have you scared from having fun doesn't really
make any sense.

they may occasionally moan or complain, but that's just the
pains of the old men slowly killing them so nevermind it -
it is inevitable.

who is it that is supressing you? tell me, and I'll
send an angry email to their mom.

I've been here since 2002 and to be honest, I haven't really
noticed a huge change. There have always been trollers. But
I guess now they're jus not even funny or random. More just
boring.. I suppose that's the only thing I've noticed
really. Maybe it's just because I've never been on here all
that regularly that I haven't seen big differences

offline virginpusher from County Clare on 2005-10-18 14:22 [#01753834]

Yeah. You are dead on. I guess that was one of the things
that appealed to me was that they were so funny at times.
They've since been longed banned. I guess they leave that
empty space behind that doesnt get filled and perhaps maybe
thats what i noticed.

Yeah, in many ways it's a shame that they've been banned. I
know they obviously broke the rules, but they were funny you
know? Actually funny, not just people trying to be random.
There's nothing worse than that!

Its hard work to consistantly be funny. It seemed like that
happened frequently at the height of XLT. Old faces who
werent yet gone that were pissing about making redicilous
comments and reviving a boring old thread by being
completely outlandish.

Back then it didnt seem as common as a big serious thread
would turn into a heated debate and then it turns into a
feces throwing match that gets carried across threads.

Nowadays that seems more common

we need a thread about threads that are about threads about
threads, and whether or not they've gotten better, or
worse.

that'll help us to get to the bottom of all this.

I don't feel it's too bad. I think it's natural for the
''old guard'' on messageboard to feel this way occasionally
as a lot of things change and people they liked post
less/ride off into the sunset. This happens on every
board... they all seem to reach their peaks 6 months into
their existence and then spiral into oblivion for the next
5-10 years... despite never really changing all that much,
ha. Granted I don't post or read as much as I used to but
I'm still and still post every day, so I still see what's
going on.

I think it's fine. *shrug. And I certainly don't think it's
''too serious!''. It's plenty decadent, sometimes I want it
to be less so.

But not TOO serious. I can never forget those fun days back
in late '01, that was something else... not many boards like
that on the internet anymore. Beatlesonline was another
board I used to post on that didn't require accounts and had
no mods, it was equally insane and surreal while it lasted.
