suggestions for integrating New Guys:

/pester a newbie-day

/make user-spesific threads for the last 5 registered

/steal new guy's avatar

Yeah a little bit. They added variety. Now if they occured
too often they could get tiring. There was moderation and
variation back in the day. We did things in moderation. It
was a good mix at a good pace.

It was like if i didnt have something original or funny to
say.... someone else would and it would open the door to
alot of zanyness and funnyness.

The reason i made this thread is because i would like to see
a revival of that. I would like to see people ease up a bit
on the seriousness. Its the internet afterall. I wouldnt
want to see this place turn into a regular board. We have
enough of those.

I would love for all of us to pull together and clean this
place up a bit.

I look at this openly. I dont have favorites because i
accept people as they are. Sure sometimes we get under each
others skin i think we should be a bit more forgiving to
each other. I would like to see this place to continue to
thrive creatively as it once did.

i no longer read xltronic unless im bored

the fault doesnt lie solely with the users / posts / etc - i
feel like i dont need it anymore really, not to say that im
better than it, people, etc - i used to be obsessed with
electronic / experimental music and my taste has evolved

when once i would get all excited and anxious about a BOC
release now i couldnt care less really - i still like tons
of experimental stuff but cant say i wanna talk about
squarepusher's crotch, afx's choice of tea, and autechre's
favorite fabric choice (which im sure is cashmere), anymore

ive changed, so has the bored (check the spelling) - we've
gone our seperate ways

its the same reason i dont use aim anymore, and wouldnt join
myspace - differing priorities and interests

it would be hard for me to say this board has gone downhill,
i feel like it may have always been this way and its just me
who isnt still that way

dig it!

I've been here a long ass time. maybe not consistantly, but
fairly regularly. In my opinion, the only difference now is
that there are more people. More people interested in
talking music and more people interested in talking shit. I
think the ratio of good shit to plain shit has stayed about
the same though.

yes, i think there are too many oldschool members missing or
post very rarely and that makes it a bit less good as in the
good old days..and i sort of lost touch a bit. don't know
many of the new members..i don't know the reason why tho. it
used to be easy to make more contact with individuals. there
are many factors for this though :)

I'm not really in a position to say anything, but I've
noticed a slightly bitter attitude to the music that used to
be loved, or rather a negative attitude towards talking
about electronic music with any passion or emotion.

threads like this happen regularly on every forum i visit
and have ever visited. i guess it's "normal",
unfortunately.

the question whether the board has "really" gotten worse or
if it's just an impression -i.e. the board being still being
quite the same, but people getting bored of it now- doesn't
make much sense anyway...

the way i feel it, the board is ok. not at its best, but at
least better than a few months ago with the jedi chris
issue, ban-fest, and all that shit.

now the board has certainly lost some good craziness since
JAroen has been banned... it's too bad, he was really one of
the members that brought life here, even if he pissed off
some people.

if you remove all and every troublemaker it becomes dull.

Well after some thought i dont consider it part of the ebb
and flow.

Example: If (addict) members continue to get bored and post
less it will result in less participation in the threads and
on the board as a whole.

Try this excercise......

Think of your top ten favorite posters, now imagine them not
posting at all and/or hardly ever. Over the course of time
there has been alot of people that really contributed to the
board that left/departed for various reasons.

When you start taking away ingrediants for a meal it becomes
more and more bland.

actually, it's not only forums that are like this.. think of
the cliché old man statement "back in the good ol' days, we
[...]"; it was always better before. we have become the old,
we can't keep up with the young kids with their new
technology and humour and.. wait.. what was I talking about?

..anyway, i don't post much anymore for the same reasons

Yes, Xltronic has changed lately, I don't really know what
went wrong.
What I do know is that in my opinion the moderation is a bit
overexaggerated at times. Also the "coming soon" thing which
Xltronic is cursed by does more harm than good. I know a few
members left because of that.

And I think xltronic lost a bit of it's charm due to all the
banners and a non working search function.

I don't want to complain, this is my personal opinion and I
might be totally wrong.

agree on moderation right now... there was a period of
mayhem a while back, and moderation was required, but
now it's kind of over-the-top moderation... where's the
middle path?

i must've been coming here for about 4 years, but with a
large gap in the middle somewhere and during that gap period
the site has definately changed. people seem to have
developed small groups, who chat amongst themselves and seem
to almost try to alienate other posters. it's just the
impression i get - with people trying to make a decision
about the person posting, rather than the post itself.

too much agro.

it was definately a more accepting place before.

I love this place whatever happens, it's all part of the XLT
"growing up", I used to read XLT threads 3 years back before
I made the "plunge" and it may have changed (although I
really can't say as I'm looking from a members perspective
now).

Those who say XLT has gone down hill, I have to disagee
with. Eventhough i've been here for a second compared to
many I've already experienced drama, love, excitment, hate,
turmoil, friendship, enemies etc. I'm sorry but how can
anyone say the whole banning and "I'm leaving XLT" period be
boring it was dangerously hilarious times. Then came the "I
love you <3 <3 <3 period"....... anyway enogh
nostalgia....peace out

(always wanted to say that, never again)

yeah i would agree with that i guess. in the old days,
there maybe was less talking down to people which i have
detected more in recent days. but sometimes that talking
down is good natured but the sarcasm is lost in the post.

offline nacmat on 2005-10-17 15:52 [#01752830]

I think its the same... its we who change... our euphoria
about the place and the music is going down... new members
shall feel what you felt back then... but now instead of a
few hundred memebers there are over 4000... thats another
diference
each time more people is unknown, cos people come and go...
but few stay over the years

I think the place is doing good... its just us, the old ones
(and I am not as old here as you I think) that are not so
discovering all this world around us

Er....All I've ever used to like was electronic music, and
that's still largely the case. It all started with the
oldies-Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Jarre.

Then it moved on to folks like Autechre and Aphex Twin-which
lead me to this forum.

This place definately aided my musical adventure...I've
discovered lots of nice new artists, both signed and
unsigned, through the messageboard.
