BUT he did make great films in the beginning of his career. Duel was awesome.

Oh and I hated The Terminal. I still haven't forgiven my girlfriend for making me see that.
Hook sucked. Always was awful too!
He did however do an episode of Colombo if my memory serves me right.

but seriously, he has made some great films.
problem with "war of the worlds" is that it isn't that great a story - but maybe they have spruced it up a bit.

However, here is a RealMedia clip of Tish down to her undies.

If its an America saves the planet ending this will go completely against what the film is about!
of course no-one knows how the ending will turn out in this version, i'll try to keep an open mind but i'm not too optimistic. Could have done with a different director for a start.

at least Spielberg is finally beginning to get away from all the oscar-bait message movies he was stuck on for years. The Minority Report was excellent up until the last 15 minutes or so. Catch Me if You Can was good if accepted as nothing but a popcorn movie. He handled the balance between CGI and realism in A.I. and TMR exceptionally well. I trust that War of the Worlds will at the very least be technically masterful.

it will be visually intresting.
I dont like mr burgs "lets bring the baby out over my sholder and look like a wholesome american family" style of things. Or stupid silly/funny bits that just make it cheesy as shit, like the burger burning in TMR, and otherwise very good film.
Hopefully this film will be good, i am looking forward to it.

thank you kindly. it seems this was posted just as i left town for the weekend.
Not sure what to think about this. I've not been very impressed with speilberg's more recent stuff, and AI was probably one of the more disappointing films of my life... so much potential, and such a horribly terrible execution.
when speilberg doesn't try to inject really forced emotional crap into his films he's pretty good.

shamelessly cashing in on this apparent hype, i would hereby like to present to you my two year old ode to war of the worlds. it is the second track on my site and it features the same speech used here, except it is taken from the original audio cd (which has a great soundtrack).
hope it's going to be a good film. of course the story is shabby. remember it was (one of) the first books about life on other planets.

Everything about that trailer was terrible. The voice over was distracting and hokey, and the overall style of the film is obviously typical Spielberg glitz. Science Fiction is getting its ass kicked by Hollywood right now with the travesty that is "I Robot" and now "The War of The Worlds".
