linkin park thread (do not diss!)

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2003-08-21 11:58 [#00831329]

ok...this is a thread about Linkin Park, and I too hate
their commercialism, don't get me wrong. But I still want to
dedicate a thread where we discuss the tracks instead of
dissing.

I listened to Hybrid Theory before it got popular and back
then I actually liked it. After that, I almost puked when
hearing their tracks everywhere.

Now this new album Meteora has some decent subjects. The
beats are somewhat interesting and some of the tracks are
almost IDM with song.

Give me a healthy point of view here and not the ordinary
"fuck linkin park" speech

IDM-influence of their DJ

let me spell it: I respect all bands for musical
performance: I DON'T respect bands commercialism.

I do like some tracks by Linkin Park because they're are
some IDM hidden in there that is quite enjoyable. I just
hoped someone in here had the same point of view (with all
the talk about people making threads about everything else
than music it actually was a decent idea).

Music nowadays has become so based on what we like in
general and not. So if a really good track (and therefore
experience) is hidden in some popband, I fucking shouldn't
let that keep me from experiencing it.

On another point: when i specifically ask of you NOT to diss
and spit because i wanted a discussion of pure musical
interest, why do you then start out with such comments
instead of just shutting up?

glass_eater-> no problem mate

the main reason why I dont like linkin park is becouse the
singer. he sounds like someone with "knäckebröd" in the
hals. you know what knäckebröd is right?

some of the music is decent.. but i can't stand the singing.
especially that rapping one..
i mean they use some interesting sounds, and effect
techniques.. but even then, they very much overuse
them.. like that vocal stuttering effect.. i mean it's cool
sometimes, but not when they do it on practically every
song..
i think what they are doing is good and interesting in
theory..combining certain aspects of many styles, but they
pull it off with such commercialism and pop mentality, it
kind of ruins it for me, but i'm not saying they don't have
a few interesting/catchy riffs or songs, it's just not
something i'm really into, or something that i would listen
to..
i think some of the members of the band are talented, the
guitar work is okay, the one more
traditional-singing-voice-type singer has a decent voice,
but i don't like the whininess/ angst-y-ness that he uses..

sorry.., but at least i gave you some reasons as to why i
don't really like them.. instead of just saying "they suck"

but still that is not "linkin park" they are more like
shit!

junktion, i bet you'd like my band's music.. it's kinda the
same concept of linkin park, maybe, or the idea of combines
styles, (without the pop or commercial-ness) with
alternative, a lot of metal, rock, folk, jazz, blues,
western, swing, some hip hop/rapping, and hopefully some
electronic.. i'm going to add some
keyboards/samples/electronic beats/flourishes to what we've
already got, when it's done being recorded..
if you might be interested we got a site up at
here.. there's no sound clips up yet, but
hopefully we'll put up many songs from the album as soon as
we are done..
i haven't told many about this here, since most people here
aren't really into that type of music..

with a hardcore approach)

good luck!

i like their guitar riffs, drumming and most of the singing
(not the rapping).

i dont mind their music at all, even tho every single comes
straight of an assembly line with a built-in instant hit
generator..

one step closer, and crawling are some really good tracks.

yeah hardcore would maybe be a good way to describe it too..
but with melody.. and lots of changes, different genres
mixed in as well.
you should tell me about/let me hear your band when it's
formed..

yeah will do...but i have planned it like for 2 years...

the setup will be like this:
2 guitarists (probly 7-strings)
1 (maybe two) bass-players
percussionists
3 leadsingers
NO drums
one DJ
and samples/keyboard

interesting..
right now our setup is

2 guitarists 7 string/6 string baritone
1 6 string bass
1 singer, the bassist does backing vocals, i do a little
too..
a drummer
were looking for someone to play keyboards and samples
nonstop
and one other member to fill in on additional vocals,
percussion, guitar, synth or whatever else that the song
calls for..

i pwn the cds and i have enjoyed them thouroughly, but that
was before i began listening to electronic. the track
session is okay, but i like the beat to the newly
mainstream song faint. its pretty good.

as for commercialism, i thnk its the worst ploy ever.

jsut look at rap. its crap. its all about the same 5hit and
they all share the exact same beats. thats why, if i even
listen to rap, i stay away from the mainstream and find a
nice little underground band. Ie - swollen members.

bravo junktion

i used to listen to neo-metal some years ago (when i didn't
know shit about music except this and Oasis and some other
stuff)... i thought Linkin Park were very good back then.

now, well, i do not listen to it anymore at all, but when it
airs somewhere (when my brother watches music videos on TV
for example), it doesn't bother me either... i'm just like,
"oh, it's linkin park."

when i worked in the manufacturing dept at my old Lab, I had
to wear ear protection which essentially was these
headphones with a radio in them.

one of the only channels that came in was the teen angst
channel and they played a LOT of Linkin Park.

i have to say, out of all of the crap they play on that
station. Linkin Park and System of a Down were the only
ones i was actually glad to hear when it came on.

i haven't listened to it since though as i find it kind of
shallow and transparent. LP are deffinately corporate rock;
they are a product, like Nike shoes and Pepsi cola.
