I haven't been to see it yet though I suppose I'll have to soon. Are the special effects wrapped in bacon, rolled in sugar and marinated in lard?

the special effects were orgasmically flawless. and i've read alot of reviews saying that this movies a letdown, so i had MAJOR doubts. all i can say is : BULLSHIT. theres a fifteen minute highway chase sequence that is handsdown in my top five action scenes EVER.

also, the first twenty minutes of the movie, essentially the part where they're in zion, is very slow and very weak. theres this terrible four minute rave/sex scene thing that seemed completely out of place. but....
then neo fights the hundred agent smiths and things get badass very very quickly. it doesn't stop after that.

this is all coming from someone who didn't find the first one "mindblowing" or philosophically deep. i just thought it was an entertaining action film. this one ups the ante about a hundred fold. if you want philosophy, look elsewhere. if you want amazing action scenes go see this again and again.

Whilst I haven't seen it yet, I can believe what you say about the reviews... there is sadly a growing trend in many different fields (music, videogames, theatre, etc.) to slag off anything that is hyped- the reason being, more people will read an article that goes against the precident. Something that has been the case in academia for years which is now filtering through to the mass media...
Jar: Cheers for the tip

i'm still blown away for people slagging off this movie for being "lame". sure, it didn't have the mysteriousness of the first one, but otherwise its a far superior movie. i find it funny when people follow shallow pop culture philosophy as many have in the first one and now they're disappointed by this second installment. amazing special effects and three great action sequences = lame? i think not.

I just think special effects and action sequences are lame. if you took this out of the film, the only thing left would be some really bad dialog.. almost humourously bad dialog.

i thought it was good too.
it had a lot to live up to... and it would be pretty impossible for it to be as groundbreaking as it's predesesor... so, it had big shoes to fill.
but, overall it was good. a little to drawn out down in zion, and quite a bit to many bullet-time sequences durring the massive battles. but, the extra details about the matrix, and some of the history they gave was awesome.
I'll probably see it again in the theatre... hopefully with a better crowd this time... the girl that sat behind me and beside pomme was the suckiest suck that ever sucked.
and the party/love scene was about 95% too long.

i agree that without the action everything in the movie would be bad dialogue or simplistic philosophy. the thing is, this is the exact same with the first one. and this one had much much better action sequences.

man, I think George Lucas wrote the dialouge.
"There is no point.. Then what's the point? That's the point."
are you shitting me? that's awful. That rave scene? You can't get anymore pop culture than that.
I got dragged to it with low expectations, and it didn't even meet those.

they spent $40million on the highway scene alone!
Special effects can't save a boring movie though (see Star Wars Ep I & II)

i never said the dialogue wasn't bad. and i'm pretty sure i pointed out the rave scene as the low point of the movie, and if i didn't, i am now. nonetheless, the matrix movies are all shallow pop culture mythology in the tradition of star wars. the dialogue is bad, its recycled sci fi cliches and misunderstandings of buddhism, but the action is the best around. thats it really. i'm not sure what more people want out of these movies. its popcorn entertainment, and its goddamn great popcorn entertainment at that.

The reason most people were disapointed is because the first Matrix was so unique and groundbreaking that people expected the sequel to have the same effect. All the sequel was, was a continuation of the first. That's all it needed to be. It continued the story. I really liked it, despite some flaws ( what movie dosent have flaws? :see my post above:).

this movie fucking ruled!!! I'll definitely have to watch it again, as some parts of the story were missed by me, as I was so floored by the effects... OH MY GOD!!!! That scene where Neo fights the 100 agents smiths was the most amazing thing I've ever seen on film... my mouth was hanging open the whole time, like "Damn, how the hell are they doing that?"... even though I knew, but still, it was fucking amazing... as was the car chase, the motorcycle thing, etc, etc... I think the story is really cool too... as I said, I need to watch it again to understand it better, but the whole concept is really cool to me... anyways, it was amazing!!

i hate to be the one to break this out here,
but THE MATRIX RELOADED is a piece of shit. it disgraces the original to monumental proportions. Zion is an underground HOLE right out of Star Wars: Episode II. that sex scene was pathetic. the fight scenes get BORING. the Architect scene takes all the magic and inspiration from the original and flushes it into oblivion.
3.5 out of 10.

The first one wasn't very inspired. The only revolutionary part of the first one was the special effects, in terms of plot, it's nothing new at all. Just take the Matrix as a sci-fi/action movie, more action, and stop holding it to such high standards. Reloaded made the plot much more involving, and the action scenes were nicer. However, the first one still has a certain quality I liked a lot.
