Hi all, I bought an amiga 500 at the weekend (I was going to buy an atari st from the same free ads, but the guy's mobile was off so I bought this instead :) )
I've heard the voice synthesis on this is some of the best ever (I haven't had a chanc eto use it yet) and shames "modern" PC/mac equivalents.
Does anyone have any tips on how to make it "sing" (apart from using a
vocoder as well)?
Or indeed, just tips on amigas in general (I've spent only about 2 hours on them in my life). Any "must have" yet little know games (I know about sensible soccer, alien breed etc.) for it I should get?
Any great old music software (something to make .raw files perhaps- I know one person here uses a tracker...)?
Cheers.

I had an A500 then an A1200, still got it!
Protracker was good for creating toons... like a primitive 4 channel Fruity Loops.
from what I remember the speech was absolutely DREADFULL. So bad that they scrapped it from later versions of the OS.
Games? Tough one... there were LOADS of great games, it was the best games platform of it's era... although console fans would disagree.

Anyone know a way of getting games/music for the amiga off the net via pc onto the amiga?
I remember there being something weird about amiga disks havin a different formatting standard to pcs.

amiga 500 is the shiznit,............I still got all the (cracked/hacked)-games for it.
music software : protracker / soundtracker / octamed
though I suggest U use protracker,..mad looping of 8 bit crunchy sounds. Sample it on your pc ,throw some plug-ins on top ,and your in heaven.
games : (2 much 2 mention) Turrican 2 , ik+, moonstone , everything from Team 17

Aminet used to be the world's largest software archive, and it's all Amiga stuff! that must say something for this machine popularity.
Just do a search for Aminet.
Getting PC stuff onto an A1200 was a doddle as it could read PC double density floppies (not HD though)
More tricky on an A500 though, can't remember.

I've still got my Amiga 500... loads of fun! :D
I think the voice synthesis from the Amigas was used in Wipe Out 2097... ;)
also, the background effects for Max Headroom was done with Amiga 1000's
Amiga NUTS!

"Sample it on your pc ,throw some plug-ins on top ,and your in heaven. " That's what I was hoping! I want to use all manner of VST filters etc. on those 8 bit bass sounds that the amiga does so well.
The music to amig games is great- it has a sound of its own like "nintendo music" :)

yeah that's the fella, CROSS-DOS
was all part of A1200 OS therefore piece of piss.
The protrackers "mods" in demos and games were so far ahead of their time it was unbelievable!
What I recommend is dling an emulator like WINUAE and then get "Amiga In A Box". What you end up with is even better than a REAL amiga!

I always was a huge fan of the Amiga. My fave games were Hired-Guns (1st person shooter for 1-4 players) and the old classic , Elite!
Some good sites for Amiga guff are: For hardware upgrades: http://www.whiteknight.ukf.net/idx1.htm
And for games: http://www.classiconline.org.uk/game-sz.html and
http://www.forematt.free-online.co.uk/amigame.html All the sites are in the UK as I see you are too!

Yeah, thru the parallel port. you can buy this thing that plugs into it..fucked if i can find one theses days, aparantly there pretty easy to make tho.
if that doesnt work you could try taking them samples from ya PC to ya Amiga, make sure there the right format etc..
I just grabbed a copy of CrossDos aswell.. hope it runs.
