Amiga. Once i have it back up you want a copy?

I don't know if it still works yet but I hope so.

Does anyone know how to connect a second disk drive?

It looks like you just plug the lead into the port on the
back of the amiga and it should work automatically. Is there
any trick you need to carry out to make it look for disks in
drive #2?

Points: 11496 Status: Lurker | Followup to Ceri JC: #00347210

It just did!
When you played a game that had two disks, the second drive
just read the disk automatically.

There's a switch on the back labelled "ec/dis" I've tried
both positions to no avail :(

Maybe you have a crap drive! Or your Amiga has a crap port
on the back of it!

I did consider the possibility of a crap port, but the guy I
bought it off never had an external drive and all the pins
seem fine...

Maybe have a look at the wiring when I take its top of to
have a look at that gammy spacebar.

offline Jedi Chris on 2002-08-13 12:48 [#00347222]

There are lots of website that show you wiring schematics of
those machines.....but the fact that the guy that sold you
never had an external drive, doesn't prove the socket ever
worked does it?

Nope, it just means it's less likely to hve bent pins from
someone putting it in the wrong way round! :)

It could be that the disk drive is dodgy also...

I had to get an A600 to replace it, Now i'm looking to put a
1GB 2.5" drive into it but I have to check it's the correct
sort.

Ceri.. I saw an external floppy drive cheep on ebay. just
type "Amiga" "Floppy Drive" on the UK serch and you should
find it if you need a new one.

Oh yeah, Called an A570. You can open it and put any or
almost any 3.5" HD in and it comes with a 40MB drive in. Put
a GB drive in and you are sorted.

Dude, Your amiga becomes a whole new thing when it has a HD
man. Getting a 1GB 2.5" drive for my A600 soon. Install
workbench and there you go. I have HD utills someplace and
stuff. You need anything just paw me and ask and i'll see if
I got.

I'll dig out cross dos and stuff so you can run PC disks on
your Amiga and Amiga into ADF for PC very soon.

Wicked! I notice there's a piggy back port on the back of
the external floppy... does this mean you can link an
external HD & external floppy at the same time?

You can put four floppys together, the HD will plug into the
side of the Amiga, you should have a flap there.

Another 2 external drives would be great- no disk swapping
on secret of monkey island :)

on radio one now...)

Yes, You get used to four and it's a total drag having to
use one drive.

Yes.

and no, I'm not going to discuss them being better then PCs
because it's daft.

Amigas are very entertaining and the parts are cheep, nuff
said.

I know, it was swapping disks 4 times on shadow of the beast
everytime I died that convinced me to get an external drive.

I will definately have to look into getting a HD as I want
to do some tracker work on it and the slow (floppy) disk
loading times are doing my head in.

Just bumping this 'cause I love the Amiga. My favourite
waste of time as a kid, just like the internet is now.

workbench disk with protracker and xcopy. and a background
picture. and a ace font. and ascii. woo.xoo.hoo.boo.
mine is gone:(

p.s. if you got HD disks just put a sticker on the hole
and format it on the amiga.
ohwell

I sold my amiga at a car boot sale a few weeks back. I
hadn't used it for over a year (since I got Renoise - which
whups anything the amiga had trackerwise) and couldn't
afford the space anymore. It went to a good home, the bloke
who bought it was overjoyed to find one and it obviously
brought back memories of his youth.
