- a new user on reddit posts it and already has his complete theory made up seems a little bid convienent doesnt it?? also the you tube account the video of the record playing on is new also - IF the record actually even has grooves (i think it does cuz u can see run out grooves pretty clear at the videos begining) and its made of 30 seconds of sound surrounded by minutes of silence on both ends should u be able 2 see some visual difference in the appearance of the grooves. like u know how u can tell the loud parts from the soft by looking at a record. or if there were NO grooves except were the music is ud DEFINATELY be able 2 see that. u cant see any difference from where the stylus is and the other parts on the video - this was released on RECORD STORE DAY remember??? if there were really 6 of them for any joe shmo to buy im pretty sure at least ONE of them would be on EBAY by now lol |

While this playlist compiles fan made videos, for the most part, the video description is interestingly ”——/——/——/——/——/—–-”. EDIT #4: The video description to edit #3 seems to have changed again. It now reads “1977 snow computing amateur footage beards synthesizer”. But, YouTube user wentingtonful left it as a comment on the video. Presumably just to note that it was there at one point in time. Please keep in mind that the “Julie and Candy” video was uploaded by user Ataalantafugiens, who only has this video on their channel. The version of this song seems to be a soundboard recording from one of Boards of Canada’s only live performances. We’re still unsure, since its upload, how this user got a hold of it. For notes: The year in the description has also altered several times in the last few minutes. 1976, 1977, 1978. Seem to be staying on ’77 now. However, the dashes are back. Go to 4:20 on the video and pause. No, wait. The placement has changed. Go to 4:19 and pause. (A rumored, possible countdown?) EDIT #7: The record is number stations influenced (The Conet Project is a good place to start for beginners at this). So, there are a few number theories floating around. They’re only theories, but the number 6 keeps popping up quite a bit, and with the Tweet from Iain Stewart mentioning a possible June release, I will keep all number theories inside this edit. Theory 1: The Julie and Candy video. Presumably, the position of the dashes and slash marks started at 4:20 on 4/20. Today, they were moved down to 4:19. Tomorrow, if they move to 4:18, this could possibly be a countdown of some sorts to something. This positioning has not moved. Theory debunked. Theory 2: The full video description on the “Julie and Candy” video and the six set of numbers correlate: ——/——/——/——/936557 /—— 1977/snow/computing/amateur footage/beards/synthesizer Theory 3: Each of the vinyl records will contain a different set of numbers. So far, we have the fourth set since this looks like the fourth copy of the vinyl made, judging by the X’s. So far only one vinyl has been found. A second set of numbers came from a YouTube video. See Edit #12 EDIT #8: krs from the Twoism.org message board spoke to Other Music who confirmed that there is only one Boards of Canada Record Store Day vinyl released in the United States. A Warp Rep brought in the vinyl to the store. This has been obtained. The rest of them? Apparently they’re in other countries. Get searching. Update in the comments section if you obtain one. I used to get really annoyed when decent rare music was on limited runs of a couple of hundred and I would take years to get a copy if I was lucky. Therefore a few seconds on a super rare record is good as it will keep the ebay collectors happy and real music fans won't mind. Meanwhile on planet Earth, I quietly await a new BOC album and will not get excited until... it actually exists. Incidentally, if these aren't dubplates then I wonder how much it costs to get only six 12"s pressed? |

just out of interest, if one came up on eBay what are your guesses as to the price it might go for? it's difficult to judge, it's super rare but at the same time it's just 20 seconds long. I remember an original twoism fetching approx £700, although after the rerelease I managed to pick one up for £100.....but that's a full album rather than a short clip, however it was only limited to 100 copies rather than perhaps just 6 copies. |
