i'm begining to think IDM sucks...

...these days and has for a while. maybe i've been out of
the loop for too long and off this messageboard for longer;
or maybe it has finally gotten to that point where the genre
is diluted and overwhelmed to become dead in the water to
me. i dunno, i guess after 10 years or so, it just doesn't
blow my mind like it used to. stiill though, truely good
music and artists will always thrive.

maybe it's my new found love for french electro (probably a
total fad) speaking...but i'd rather dance than listen to
supposedly technical beats and pretentious concepts.

idm is a fake lie interpretation of the works of aphex twin
and his peers spread by american undergraduates and high
school students during the formation of the idm list. idm =
the flashbulb. fuck that shit. fuck that fucking shit in the
eye!

Gantz Graf was the last truly great IDM album.

I'm beginning to think your hate for IDM should be in the
Strange Fetishes thread.

Also how can a concept be pretentious? The person is
pretentious.

Good blog material btw.

i never liked the idm concept, 'pretty idm' with glitchy
beats and melodies on top never interested me.
abstract sounds bordering on musique concréte however still
interests me a lot..
autechre has a fine line between those i guess.

i did my idm type album with mobius, now im looking for
something new for my next album, some kind of concept a bit
remote to idm..

I think the concept of introducing a pleasing melody then
deconstructing it, with the addition of "dance beats" you
can't dance to, and more than a splash of contempt for the
listener, still has a great deal more life in it yet.

Well stuff that's produced to be "IDM" will suck. I don't
think anyone's seriously used that term for years though
anyway, at least I haven't heard it. I'm guessing that's
why Warp branched out with a few signings over the past few
years and prompted the predictable hailstorm of "IT"S NOT
ELECTRONIC OMFG FUCK WARP!!!!!!" They probably didn't want
to damn themselves to one trick pony status. Think of how
many self-consciously "IDM" labels have surfaced and sunk
over the past decade.

In a recent editorial in Organised Sound, Tony Myatt
suggested that 'Computer Music' is now a term that should be
used to describe IDM and that words such as
'electroacoustic' and concepts such as Schaeffer's 'modes of
listening' are now meaningless. Discuss.

I have to do this essay today. 2500 words please.

it sucks pretty good imo...
it doesnt fall into the quarreling of most posts in
this particular thread, but whats with this
"no good releases anymore nonsense"
which comes up at least twice a year?
as if people would know every single release.

lets have more of those "i like this artist/style,
anyone recommend me some more?" threads,
i like those :)

“'Intelligent Techno' was laughable enough for it not to
bother us. It was almost like, how ridiculous is that? OK,
well, we'll go with it, because no intelligent person would
ever read anything into it anyway: self-defeating
proposition.”

I'm really tired about IDM/complex techno music, maybe for a
while, but now I just listen Italo-Disco shit and related
sorts, I prefer now that 80's (80 to 86) underground Italian
artists (very shity) but is really fun for me. I'm much more
close to Analord than Drukqs.
