Radiohead makes 10 million

they just need to mantain that 'artsy' outlook and they're
all set. their music is straight enough so mainstream
audience can take it. and they do take it because that way
they can say they're alternative too. im sure there are
plenty of people who enjoy it for music (such as yourself i
guess), but i don't have any doubts there are also lots of
those who just listen to them so that they turn out cool
infront of their friends. and that's hype.
they've done a few really nice songs but all this hype is
way exaggerated..just because they're cool. and yes, once
again, i can understand there are people like yourself who
find their music brilliant for other reasons. but given that
there are many of those who don't know a thing about music
who praise them, radiohead don't need to do anything to sell
but to keep that same artsy pose.
as for that remark on throat singing..if they used it in a
way that i would find nice then sure. you know, there are
couple of songs on the new album i find alright. i wish i
knew what it is that makes some people say it's best album
this year..it's even stranger because i can enjoy music like
that and im pretty open minded about music in general.

arguing

its just Radiohead

people are taking this "talk" way to fucking deep, its all
the people on all the 100000s of messageboards that take
away from the beauty of the album and how it was released

so just shut the fuck up and listen to the tunes
love it/hate it, who cares

the end

right..it's pretty pointless. specially because i don't mind
people who like them for their music. eventhough i can't
hear it : )

you havent heard "in rainbows" or you cant "hear" radiohead
in general, im thinking the later, tis sad for you then

i could totally crank Kid-A and Amnesiac now, but I hve to
listen to this Audioslave shite at work.....

pray for me-

i don't hear what it is about their music that makes them so
great, yeah. as i said before, i like couple of songs
though. 'how to disappear comletly' is my favourite one and
i can say i love it, but most of other stuff doesn't do much
for me.

Listen I don't mean to offend anyone that really likes
radiohead, I really like their music I really do, but I'm
just complaining because I think the somewhere, the whole
thing got distorted and seems dis honest. You know what, it
isn't really radioheads fault as much as it's the people
that whore-ship them.

Wu tang released there entire catalog on their website, Dave
Matthews donates millions of dollars to charities, and
countless other bands have released music on their own
dollar for free. I guess what I'm trying to say is, fuck
off.

"Well I'm all for supporting artists who create beautiful
art.

That's the only criterion I find to be relevant. If I enjoy
its beauty, then I shall reward them with my respect,
admiration and monetary credit. "

Me too, and I would sooner shell out money for Saskrotch,
Paul F Savage, Earvalve, Oddioblender, Impakt, and so many
others here then to pay for Radioheads 3 gas guslin tour
busses.

id rather read that post 10x than most other stuff said in
this thread, youve spoken well

although, id rather see three radiohead gas guslin tour
busses than Saskrotch, PFS, Earvalve, Oddioblender and
Impakt all added together :)

kidding man, life is what it is, radiohead are what they are

No, I disagree with your ideas and don't feel you are
familiar enough with the band. You are making brash
arguments painting them as publicity seekers and trying to
make out that people "know don't know a thing about music"
only like them to be cool.

Just who determines whether someone knows a thing about
music anyway? You? How many albums does someone have to
listen to before the know about music? Besides, you're
average 15 yr old has probably downloaded more shit than you
did at that age I'd bet, which makes your ascertion even
more worthless.

when does someone know something about music? when they're
interested enough to look up something new..something on
their own. as opposed to what media/labels serve them.

it's a way to release a record. If people decide to report
on it... then great. Radiohead were the first out the door.
And they're reaping the rewards. It is publicity, but
Radiohead haven't paid for it.

everyone starts somewhere obviously. If some people start
on this Radiohead album and aren't familiar with other
music, there are worse places they could start than here.
What's your problem with that?

radiohead werent the 1sr, what gave you that idea? there are
lots of other artists who put up their music for free but
since they're not popular with schoolyboys no one knew ablut
it and media wasn't interested in it either.

offline Vin3islih from United Kingdom on 2007-10-17 15:23 [#02134261]

so you don't have a problem then? You accept that people
who listen to this album aren't doing it to be cool.

first big band out the door, so it's a publicity stunt
because the big band tries something different. OK, I
understand now. Bollocks. They couldn't win anyway. There
would be you or someone complaining about them if they made
a mint releasing by traditional means as you clearly have a
dislike of the band (and very hard to please generally going
by posts elsewhere). I'm not sure whether picking arguments
is the best option, so I'll back off from here.

it's all based on unreliable data, some firm calculated
around 1.2 million downloads based on website traffic, then
some other site made a poll to find out the average price
people paid.

the poll must certainly have some bias towards people who
paid something.

I'm sure lots of people listen to your favourite music to be
cool as well then. You can argue the other way. The more
unknown your music, the hipper you must feel. You are
subsequently cool in your own head. You know about stuff
someone else doesn't. You can subsequently talk down about
more well known music like Radiohead to make you feel more
superior.

Radiohead are publicity seekers.

many moons ago we had a discussion of what made music good
or bad, and you insisted that there was such a thing as good
music and bad music. i remember more of this stuff than i
want to.

that's somewhat of a generalization...maybe you were just
winding us up. i've been mistaken before.

also your insistence that people are interested in the
radiohead album because that's what the media is feeding
them...of course there are always some fashionistas, but it
seems presumptuous and arrogant to paint every radiohead fan
with the same brush.

although i do believe that at some point you acknowledged
your radiohead prejudice. ; )

I like this new Radiohead music, it's the best thing I've
heard by them, as a whole, I think. Sounds like they lost
their interest in fucking IDM pretty damn quick, a lesson we
could all learn from.
