you're turning my words into something totally different to what im actually saying. i was merely pointing out why IMO (!!!!!!!!!) radiohead did so well in this new album campaign. it isn't like i speak the universal truth, it's only my opinion. and it's funny how protective you hardcore radiohead fans are..always the same story though so im used to it : )
plaidzebra; "but it seems presumptuous and arrogant to paint every radiohead fan with the same brush. "
if you actually read what i said in this thread you would see that i didn't "paint every radiohead fan with the same brush".
also, radiohead aren't the only band with a fan base like that. there are bands i love (massive attack) that deals with same issue (IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!), and that is why they can do stuff other, less hyped bands can't do. for example attention from the media.

when radiohead announced this record, it was by one sentence on their website saying, hey our new shit is out in 10 days. thats it. perfect use of viral marketing. people all across the web spread it faster than lindsay lohan on a wednesday night coke bender...all the hype is totally and 100% driven by people on the internets saying how cool they are for doing it or how someone else did it first or that they wouldnt be in this spot without a record company in the past, etc etc etc. all they did was make the first record in how many years that hasnt leaked first and put it out for anyone in the world to hear for free. who gives a frogs flying fat ass who likes it because its 'cool' and who listens to it 5 times a day because they love how it sounds in their head?

well... you were saying that you think many radiohead fans listen to the music because they are trying to be cool, I find that a very arrogant thought because it implies you know better than the listener the reason for listening, and an immediate consequence of that is that you think you'd be more fit to choose the right kind of music for them to listen. and we can argue tons about this but lets not.
obviously i exaggerated to make my point, and it worked, the way you are writing now is in a very different tone. well... that was until your final thoughts, where you claim you can characterize certain group's fan base (wtf!).
and to finish: I don't think I know a single person that listens *whatever* to appear cool. maybe you're just projecting yourself on other people.

"who gives a frogs flying fat ass who likes it because its 'cool' and who listens to it 5 times a day because they love how it sounds
in their head?"
as i said before..i pointed this out just to state my opinion why radiohead get so much attention..why they're so hyped.
ok has a point there (although i don't get the 'different tone' remark)..i can't know what every radiohead fans thinks. you say you don't know any people who listen to something to appear cool. i know people like that, so what? what does that say? surely you've heard to young people trying to be socailly accepted by their mates, so they imitate them by wearing similar clothes, talking in a similar way, listening to the same music..again, this is only my opinon, but to me radiohead are clearly one of those bands that fit into this cathegory. and this ofcourse doesn't mean they don't like their music per se or something. but it could be the same with any other band that would create so much hype. i mean, radiohead's music doesn't sound all that different to lots of other music so im almost certain lots of other musics would get this much attention as well if someone presented it to all this people..and again, it's only my opinion.
