Is this like some kind of retaliation from a recently banned

Probably happens more often than you think, but mods are
there to clean it up before you see it. Anyway, fuck, out of
the goodness of my heart, I'll do it now. Fuck. I hope they
aren't banned yet so I can have the pleasure.

Right, well thanks to phob's "great" "idea" of taking away
some of the moderators already awkward mod tools I can't
actually delete all these wanker posts, so the board will
have to look like shit.

I can however ban anyone who thinks, for instance, "i'll
just post a topic called 'oven' and post 'bun' in it simply
because there's all these other closed topics" is funny.
Because it isn't.

Although I guess in v2 the board could allow moderators to
flag topics to be deleted which could prevent them from
being shown while still giving phobia final say on whether
they go forever or get reinstated.

Dunno what you are on about when it comes to the vanilla

The actual implementation of this sort of thing is pretty
easy and straight forward though.

it's called lussumo vanilla or something.. it's kind of
neat, but just a bitch to moderate, so I didn't bother

but I think it could work nicely if done here, the problem
with that was that you only had the hide option,
there was no proper way of deleting stuff because it's still
being developed...

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2006-12-04 09:02 [#02012444]

My prediction: XLTv2 will launch with an out of the box
forum, from one of the big three messageboard companies.

Messageboards are like any other internet tool - they have a
standard feature set that most people expect to be there,
and when a custom effort like this (albeit a good one) lacks
standard features, the community complains (and suffers)
because of it.

If anyone wanted to be really malicious, they could attempt
SQL injection attacks like they do on the large commercial
forums, although the commercial forums have the support to
ensure such things get fixed quickly before they become
widespread.

There's no reason a version of VB or IPB couldn't be
customized (both visually and feature-wise) to look almost
identical to the xlt forums, and add the extra features
(like an edit function) that users here have wanted for
years, in addition to adding moderation tools that make the
moderators and administrators tasks easier and the board
overall more secure.

(stand with arms outstretched, awaiting XLT firing squad)

sorry to disappoint you, joyrex...

i believe in our concept/forum just as hard as you believe
in mainstream and commercial forums...

to be honest, i feel sick everytime i see a forum from
"one-of-the-three-messageboard-companies". it's prolly the
scandinavian, minimalistic side of me.

but to nail the issue....
we can add a myriads of features and functions, but we
choose to implement only stuff that makes sense. do you
really think the lack of an edit-button is a technical
issue
due to our "custom" system? no. i've dismissed the
idea of having an edit-feature just as long you've
known html - due to various reasons (use the search-feature
to find my previous rantings on this).

as for better tools for the admins, yeah... xltv2 will take
care of that. we removed some of the admin-tools due to the
infamous Virginpusher-scandal a couple of months ago.
imagine a mod on drugs, feeling hatress against his
webmaster, and at the same time having the power of deleting
entire threads with a single click! well, we just thought we
would disable these features for a while. it's not like we
don't trust our current team of mods, but xltv2 is having a
more enhanced set of admin-tools.

was that one of the issues with our custom software,
joyrex?

i've personally seen ALOT more complains towards your forum
than against xltronic/mb (maybe because i hardly visit
watmm). (slow, ugly, clumsy, unstable and what's more...)
but at least you can EDIT messages - HELL YEAH! :)

actually, i don't understand why you're still spreading your
annoying, commercial pep-talk here after all these years...
why don't you try to get some distance to your own "mess"
over there? you don't have to answer that btw - i know it's
like a nail in the eye. believe me.

well, time will tell...

commercial software isn't all roses.. and there are
advantages to writing your own forum code..

either way can be good, just depends on what you're looking
for.

I like the graphic design on this forum. The only thing I'm
not satisfied with is the column width, too narrow fields
causes sore and toughened skin on the tip of my touchpad
scroll finger.

Image posting is also a standard feature on most message
boards, but I guess you need the donation inducement with us
greedy bastards.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2006-12-04 10:49 [#02012495]
Points: 35867 Status: Lurker | Followup to Sclah: #02012491 | Show recordbag

I actually think the width is ok

the new width also looks like it'll work nicely, as long as
it doesn't go all "we'll just use the whole screen," 'cause
that's just really frustrating to read and takes way more
time. I also hope there'll be some align:justify on the text
in the future and maybe also a slightly larger font or at
least the option to set it to slightly larger and not having
to use the firefox zoom thing which kind of fucks the design
just a tiny bit. It shows that size 12 (not verdana)
could work nicely for the page, though.

Phobs also has the possibility of making the site
xhtml strict and valid (which the commercial forums doesn't
allow), but that'll usually get fucked when you hand it over
to someone doing programming anyway.

the limitation of picture-uploading is also a
security-feature. we don't want just anyone to register here
and post naughty pictures. members who are willing to get a
premium account is somehow a bit more "trusted" and prolly
wouldn't dare to sacrify their ten bucks just to get the
satisfaction of posting a naughty picture.

BUT! this does not exclude the possibility of a premium
member being naughty sometimes..... AND! there are many
trusted members among the non-paying people of course...

but this is how it works like for now....

xltv2 will be xhtml 1.0 strict and is using css2 for the
layout. just like any new web 2.0:ish site... however, we
wont take ALL new technology to the edge... we're using some
ajax to perform a few inpage functions, but just where it is
appropriate and clever to do so (it's silly to reload a
whole page just to fetch some data). xml will be used for
some data-exchange etc etc.... standards, standards,
standards...

i'm FULLY aware of xltronic's currently lack of compliant
code and a bit unstructured content and design.
