do you like boc? why so?

with all this expectation for the upcoming album, I have
been listening to my boc albums all week... I dont have much
really (mhtrtc, peel session, twoism, hi scores, iabpoitc,
geogaddi) I dont even have the mp3s of the boc maxima or the
old tunes and all that stuff... so I have just listened to
the "mainstream" stuff

well, the thing is that listening to all my boc, I am
enjoying it more than I used to
I have always liked boc, and actually mhtrtc was my first
idm record back in 1998 (at that time I never found out
about all the idm world apart from this album)
but ever since I got to know ae, afx and all the rest, boc
was always in last place for me... like less things
happenned in a boc record than in an aphex one. (just an
example)

well... this last week, listening to all my boc, I am
enjoying a lot... its great msic to listen too... its like
"music with oxigen"... so... well you know I was going to
describe their music as it has been described thousands of
times... probably the point is that I finally found their
point.

well, so now I like boc lot... or at least at this moment.

and you?

No.

I just get bored listening to them. I like Aquarius and I
think that's about it.

I dont listen to them all too much but when i do its always
nice. I enjoy the themes that seem to exsist behind the
music. Geogaddi and MHTRTC are good albums.

I thought Children was nice when it came out. The Beautiful
Country EP made me take them seriously. Geogaddi put them in
my top 5. With this release they have come full circle.

GEOGADDI = PISS

as i said on woofer's topic, it's "bubblegum music" for me.

it's nice, sweet, enjoyable, but not really groundbreaking
and the taste wears away after some time (less than an
album's duration for me - not even by repeating listens,
just like half an hour and i already feel like i'm chewing
on the same limp tasteless thing which i might as well spit
out.)

i do enjoy it from time to time, but i could very well live
without.

*i can actually only speak for geogaddi, but neither it nor
the stuff i've heard from the other albums made me want to
get something else by them...

i love BoC. i find their music really easy to listen to and
it just seems to relax me in a way that no other music does.
Kid for Today is one of my favourite tracks by BoC. it's
just sexual really isn't it.

I like Geogaddi quite a bit. I find the rest a little too
repeitive and/or dull, but I still listen to the other
albums once in a while and enjoy some of the tracks.

I find a lot of filler in their albums, personally, too.

BOC is my favorite 'IDM' act. I find their music to be
nostalgic, uplifting, pacifying, comforting but at the same
time "dope" or "cool" or "phat" even. I find that my
attention can be totally absorbed by their music, but i can
also have it playing in the background, totally
non-distracting. I love how often the music doesn't seem
to rely on fancy programming or flashy edits and effects,
though upon further scrutiny, I can appreciate the attention
to detail and production. I also love the organic sound of
their music. Even though it's electronic, it sounds very
raw to me. Natural instead of synthetic and steril. The
music has real soul. It sounds human, instead of alien and
robotic. Not that robotic synthetic cybernetic music is
bad, i just prefer BOC's brand of electronic.

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. As far as i am
concerned they are the best of what is on offer in the
electronic sphere of music. So many people are close but the
release too much music. Alot of it mediocre, with boc this
is not so.

I am not prepared to argue the merits over other artists
because there is no point. There are alot of things i love
in electronic music. Boc has all of the critera i am looking
for times by ten!

listened to all the old tunes stuff last night. That imo is
the best boc, the most raw stuff that encompasses their
style before they had to give it thought for label
expectations.

It's retains their 'boc' style but plays around so many
ideas, I was playing video games on mute while listening and
some of it fit well (too well).

simplicity but blissfulness to it. 'Tis good.

theres a lot of stuff thats better than boc that is far from
technical wizardry.

i think boc just care about the wrong thing

i dont think very many people give a shit if your music
sounds like its being played from a cassette from ancient
egypt. id be surprised if they cared about all this stuff
when they did mhtrtc

i agree. I think it's cool that BOC use the medium of
electronic music to make something that doesn't really sound
'electronic.' I mean, it seems obvious to make cybernetic
music with a computer, but to make organic music with that
same computer, i find that impressive as well.

I do; I like them, mostly because they juxtapose a
comprehensively mystical and unique spiritual identity with
playful elegance; I also find that they are masters of sonic
texture, and structural surprise.
