Maximo are arguably the most popular artists ever on WARP; their debut was top 20 hit and their album, out today has had 2 'picks of the week' in respectable weekend broadsheet suppliments. So that will enter high too I reckon, perhaps even a top 10.
For WARP it's a very good move, and they aren't digressing too much cos their latest signing, Jackson is a deep house/techno artist.

yes, i agree partly, but still i think warp should focus on sort of music they were promoting in the past..they were/are best known for electronic music and they should stick with it imo. they are very recognizable in the music scene, so that shouldn't be a problem - they should be setting trends, im sure there are a lot of electronica artists that could get successful enough even financially. it's sad to see they just took the easy way and went into mainstream apperantly. i haven't bought a warp release in surely over a year now..

Fuck you. I can think of few more pathetic things than the people who take this so seriously, it's is if you people actually believe Warp personally spoke to you in a dream and promised you 'Everything we do will be cutting edge, and that means electronic!'. FUCK OFF. They don't have to release electronic music and they don't have to release experimental music. I think there ought to be more problem with them signing fairly repetetive electronic acts than giving the diverse musical tastes of their fanbase a little respect which you clearly don't deserve. They can release whatever they like, and if you don't like it I honestly advise you to buy the Maximo Park album and forcibly insert it into yourself over the next few hours. And besides, they aren't there to pander to your every wish, it's still a business trying to make money. I bet Warp regrets ever starting up when they realise they've accumulated a generation of narrow-minded cunts who think they are open-minded but cough up blood when something different happens. In fact I bet the only reason this bothers you is because Maximo Park have sold well, you snivelling little turd.

as i said, i prefer guitar music over electronica, and to be honest warp was never experimental to me..they were always presenting only the most accessible electronic music i think. and it's an odd situation on electronica scene atm..lots of other electronica labels seem a bit stuck atm..

i'm sure back in the days when warp put out house/techno records, there were people who loved that.
back then, they were probably disappointed that they started to bring out ambient stuff.
its like with analord, people here know aphex for his more experimental works, and hate most of the analords, cos theyre really acid-y and techno.
whereas people who gave up on aphex years ago when he stopped playing with analogue equipment love it.
warp have just signed someone a bit different. get over it.
i have.

im not listening to electronica for over a year now and the main reason i stopped listening to it is that i kinda came to the point where ive listened so much of it that nothing can produce any emotions anymore, ive heard everything there is...and the scene didnt really progress for good 5 years or so...same all derivative crap...
and the other reason is, i hated myself when i realized the fact that electronica fans are such immature bunch of geeks, that hang out in video games shops..so basically its just a silly childish fixation that "electronic" and "experimental" means, "hey im intellingent", and i started finding much more creativity and emotion in other genres...and i started to value other types of music much more...
so if you played maximo park to me when i was 18...and was all into aphex and shit...i would be disgusted....
but now that ive lived a bit, experienced some other music, learned some things, ...i think maximo park are great...their single "apply some pressure" is one of the best singles of the year...and im so glad warp is slowly gonna shake off that bunch of ignorant geeky brats...and leave them to drink aphexs piss...
for the rest of us..we get older...life goes on...music gets better...

Because for me that's the reason they are great. Tell me who else would have signed a few lads from Leeds in 1989 who had made some crazy 'acid house' track at home. What balls that took, and how it paid off.

Anyway, I think somebody here is cross because Warp didn't want to sign them.
