best film ever made

My favorite list (these are just the ones I can
remember right now):

Strozek
Irreversible
City of God
Royal Tenebaums
Dr Strangelove
Se7en
Gummo

At least one person here mentioned Werner Herzog. I can
pretty much safely put three or four of his films in my
favorites, but I just added strozek, cause its my favorite
herzog film.

Hatelist:
Donnie Darko
Pi + Requiem for a Dream
American Beauty (or anything else that has kevin spacey in
it except for se7en)
Star Wars (all five of them)

2001
apocalypse now
blade runner (wasn't this supposed to be a failure? the
atmosphere is amazing)
a clockwork orange

while we're on the subject, pi was far from shit, it's
definitly better than a lot of movies out there.

Dude... do you realize what you just said? there are
hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of movies out there...
and you are saying pi is better than a lot of them? If you
take into account for the output of bollywood (which
averages about four times as many films as america), then
you could say that any american film is better than a lot of
them. That includes alien verses preditor.

Hee hee! I don't really like donnie darko all that much, and
pi and fight club were both terrible. Pi just seems
like an extended music video that travels rapidly up it's
own annoying arse.

need to know about the film.

In July 2000, director Ridley Scott said that Deckard is,
in fact, a replicant.

Requiem for a dream, deer hunter, 2001, taxi driver, the
pianist..
Don't know why you're all bashing pi so much, I didn't like
it for the soundtrack, it could've worked with plenty of
other kinds of music.

I also love Metropolis and Man with a Movie Camera. :) Oh
and Claude Chabrol makes amazing flicks :D

And Spookylukes mention of L'Eclisse--my favorite
Antonioni!! :D

Ive noticed that a lot of people are just putting thier
favorite movies/movies that they greatly enjoyed as opposed
to films that are well-made. I find a difference between an
enjoyable, entertaining movie and something that is a
serious piece of amazingly made work. I dont see how Donnie
Darko, Pi, Requiem, and Boogie Nights can end up here, among
other movies. I mentioned Pi because I enjoyed it--but whom
ever said it ws like a long music video is pretty much right
on :)

I would like to add Jean-Luc Godards CONTEMPT to my list.
:)

Shame (Bergman)
8 1/2 (Fellini)
City Lights (Chaplin)
Contempt (Godard)

it is.

Shame (Bergman)
8 1/2 (Fellini)
City Lights (Chaplin)
Contempt (Godard)
L'Eclisse (Antonioni)
Hiroshima mon amour (Renais) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But while we are talling about favorites too, some of my
other favorites are Blue Velvet and Eraserhead (Lynch), Dr.
Strangelove and The Killing (Kubrick), Breaking the Waves
(von Trier), Hidden Fortress and Ikiru (Kurosawa), La
Rupture and Le Boucher (Chabrol), Blackmail and Strangers
on a Train (Hitchcock), Metropolis (Lang), Reservoir Dogs
(Tarantino--yes, seriously), and oh my god what about The
Umbrellas of Cherbourg?? And Sidney Lumet, Billy Wilder,
Francois Truffaut!!

I think Ive posted enough hahaha any more movie updates I
will keep to myself, I swear :]

i would assert that donnie darko and boogie nights are
actually well-made, solid films. both are generally
misunderstood, but all the experts i've consulted with about
them agree they're great movies. ;)

them. his acting ability was stretched to the limit!

the last cheers i saw was where carla got a job in a new bar
and they paid her so much she couldnt go back to low-paid
cheers - until they hired a new waitress to work with her
who looked/acted uncannily like diane! didnt see that
coming! and carla freaked out and went back to cheers.

University of Alberta... it's probably one of the better
programs in Canada... not in terms of prestige or anything
(there is no such thing in Film Studies), just cause we have
good profs, who are actually focused on film from a film
perspective, as opposed to something more sociological or
media-centric... next year i get to take a whole course of
Brakhage, Tarkovsky, and Syderberg... it will be the best
course i've ever taken in university... i'm so excited.
