Solaris (Tar's), 2001, Transformers, Gattaca, Stand by Me,
The Deer Hunter, Platoon, The Last Man on Earth, etcetera.

Mostly Transformers, though. It's made of sterner stuff.

then that. otherwise, my neighbour totoro.

wow this thread is moderately o'skool.

nothing drastic to add to what i put down the first time,
but i will say that the two best films i've seen in recent
memory are Celine and Julie Go Boating and Notre Musique.
Godard is in some sort of 3rd or 4th prime of his career
right now.

and since i hadn't taken the Syberberg class when this
thread was up before, i suppose i should mention that
Hitler: Ein Film Aus Deutschland is one of the best movies
i've ever seen, and possibly one of film's biggest
travesties insofar as it has had no DVD release, and is
otherwise just generally unseen and unknown.

what? but it's only from 2005.

. . . oh god we've wasted our lives.

It's a bit silly how no one cares about Godard's films after
1967. They're great and they try to do something new. Great
films:

Passion
Prénom Carmen
Nouvelle vague
Éloge de l'amour
Notre musique
etc.

What the fuck was Notre Musique about? From what I remember
it was more esoteric than a Lynch movie.

I own it on DVD...suppose I'll watch it again later today.

It was about cinema, war, sacrifice, Sarajevo, Europe,
books, cinema, music, flowers and cinema.

Oh and of course the Israelo-Palestinian conflict.

But most of all it's a really beautiful film, you shouldn't
try to find a definite meaning.

I figured it was something like that. I absolutely disliked
the inclusion of the Indians. I hate it when Indians show up
in films...yes, we know they got the short end...let's move
on.

Bande à part was good.

I renounced soo much in my travels and life...DRASTIC
changes...

i'd like to add to weatherd's list:

2001
City of God
Baraka
***
***Vajra Sky Over Tibet***
***Powaquatsi*** (Same vein as Baraka; Produced with the
works of Hopi Prophets)

Can't wait for Milarepa, tho! It's about a Tibetan
Yogi master who was a black magician using the ancient
Tibetan *BON* rites to kill over 30 people...

fled for his soul and discovered the dharma...through his
perseverance on his guru yoga he generates the merit to
surpass the karma *and* become enlightened...all in one
lifetime...in this body.

i watched 8 1/2 again last week and i think that is the best
film i have ever seen. it is genius. my mind was blown with
every passing second. it may be best to watch it in slow
motion so you can take it all in.

No he meant objective you twit.

But he's been mistaken because the best film ever at the
moment is Bride of Re-Animator. Brian Yuzna is an unsung
genius, and I'm being very serious.

brian reanimator what is that a comedy? the bride yuzna is a
singer therefore i can surmise it is a musical.

nevermind i wiki'ied it. it seems rather interesting given
its not a comedy slash musical (those are my favorite)

that's silly.

i thought it was refreshing, particularly in context. it
wasn't about making people fell bad for stuff they dun' did,
it was potentially opening new dialogues. (if i could do the
quote verbatim i would... it was a gooder)

i'm glad the film was so inclusive without attempting to be
some sort of facetious "mosaic" or something like that.

Milarepa's on Demonoid 1gb...

no-hype-just-awesome

g'day...(laughingly snorts) heh, remember that Dr. Katz
episode where the guet is all like:

"I remember when people in the old days would just say
"gooday to you sir" to end an argument...and it'd be like
all intense and the guy would just go 'GOODDAY!" and the
other guy'd be all like' uhh...uhh.buuuut....' the the first
guy'd say 'I SAID GOODDAY' and there...there you have
it...that'd be the end of that...

there was an episode with david duchovney....hilarious!

*haha!

anyways...dwnload Milarepa...then buy it...it'll change your
life!

also a fan of the original graphic novel before the stories
were turned into hollywood films.

The first Crow film is my favorite though.

Well I can forsee myself totally disagreeing with this in a
short while but....

2001 A Space Odessesy. (can you imagine how immense
this must have been in 1968)

Groundhog day (makes me feel like life is worth it,
also has Bill Murray).

Das Boot. (Apparently this is a film, but I've seen
the 5 part TV version - immense)

Brazil (The proper version with the nasty twist at
the end = orwelian masterpiece).

Bladerunner (Just absolutely fantastic atmosphere and
mood throughout)

Wavetwisters (QBert's scratching/animation mashup -
totally brilliant stuff)

Porco rosso (Fantastic anime about a charismatic pig
flying a seaplane - superb)

The French Connection (Brilliant car chase, Hackman
is superb - great)

The Third Man (Brilliant film noire in post war
Vienna)

The Usual Suspects (What a twist at the end - love
it)

Get Carter (His name is Michael Caine... seems it's
grim up north)

And loads more, but I can't think of them at the moment.
