the remake of solaris is nothing compared to the Tarkovsky
version.

and I normally quite like Soderbergh's films.

"Lilya 4-Ever" is quite fucked up too, not as much as "hole
in the heart" but you'll still feel like shit.

"together" is sweet.

where is "fucking amal" though?

hole in the heart wasnt that graphic or anything and when i
watched it itw as aprolly a bad idea cos it kiled my mood,
but every time i go see a film now we always end up talking
about hole in my heart and how better it gets the more u
dwell on it! was messed up but amazing. poor eric

Huh! I heard Hole in My Heart was really really graphic!
Diddnt it have like close-ups of vaginal reconstructive
surgery or something?

Or am I just totally high on Snackwells hahaha :)

though I guess it depends on what we call graphic haha :)

it did but ive seen way more fucked up things than surgery
on films. its not really the graphic images that affect u,
its the .... i dunno its the realness of everything cos its
all filmed on dv. and the random crazy silioquies (sorry
cant spell that). its just really tragic there are some
funny moments. when is aw it in the cinema it was full of
film students and theres a bit where the dad bursts in and
shouts "come on son we are going to beat up grandad" and i
laughed so loud i got such dirty looks, but to be honest any
ray of humour found in that film needs to be clung to! so
good, so moving!

The remake of Solaris wins over the original becuase of the
soundtrack which... I like. I wish they hadn't made out it
was a "reimagining" of Solaris, because, no one who likes
the original wants to see a remake, and it wasn't really,
only vaguely, so why not call it something else, which it
might as well have been, and let it stand on its own feet,
which it could've done. IMHO.

haha I cant handle certain things, honestly. I think Id be
sick or burst into agonized tears if I saw that!

I hate when people laugh at unfunny or inappropriate
moments! I saw Dogville in the theater and people were
laughing at the end--WTF?!?!

you've gone insane.

the Cliff Martinez soundtrack is okay, music for melancholy
yuppies sipping frappuccinos while watching the rain drop
outside on their dreary city, but really no more than that.

the Artemyev soundtrack is very electronic and weird and
therefore more interesting to me.

and Tarkovsky's "Solaris" has a much more daring and
involving take on the whole story than the Soderbergh
version, I think. I guess it's basically spirituality vs.
psychology.

Nowhere (garbage but i love it!), 2001, 1984.

Club and Memento... in case someone mentioned either of
those)

Requiem is great, but I like Pi better :D

Why do people go on about Pi and Requiem for a dream? Aren't
they very ordinary / verging on bad films. Is it just
beacuse of the soundtrack?

oh, i can't explain why, but donnie darko is a great, great
movie. there is a lot of feeling to it that gives it a lot
of weight, but it's sort of subliminal. it's like a dream
to me, but it hits me in a sort of nostalgic way as well...
it may be that one has to have similar experiences as the
characters in the film to "get it" but perhaps not. it's
surreal and heavy. i really like that film a lot.

although I don't really want to get into endless arguments
about this (because chances are with a film like "donnie
darko" that this will happen) and although I didn't really
ask you to explain in the first place, I'll try to explain
from my side of the fence.

to me it's the director posing all kinds of forced theories
and then letting them act out as if they're actual laws of
nature.

the whole thing becomes a forced showcase for these theories
that leaves me unaffected, not caring about anyone in the
film.

ok, there's no reason we can't discuss the film in a
civilized way like we're doing now, is there? ;) i don't
want to argue, i'm just giving my opinion like you're doing,
mate.

i know what you're talking about with the theories, but that
never occured to me as being the focus of the movie. the
theories are really unimportant to everything the film is
about. so if you get hung up on them, i can see where that
would bother someone (it would have bothered me if that
happened to me). but you're really not supposed to get
caught up in that, it's not really the point. i took the
film in a much more surreal way - that's my interpretation.

i enjoyed donnie darko. supposedly it was filmed in 29
days? okay, i can believe that. otherwise though i thought
it totally failed on emulating the time period and the story
wasn't coherent enough.

I just saw Heat last night and it reminded me how good that
movie is. Another one of my favorites. Best action movie
ever although it's more of a drama at 3 hours and like 2
action scenes.

I noticed some people mentioned donnie darko, its a great
film but lacks explanation, its like saying the butterfly
effect is the greatest movie ever, both do not explain the
theories of time travel properly, you're just suppose to
accept the theory and think 'oh wow!'.

Bladerunner the original
the texas chainsaw massacre: the next generation
Interview with the vampire
and probably many more I've forgotten.

Tarkovky's The Sacrifice, Songs.. remains, in my opinion,
the best film I have ever seen.

"whats your best film ever made?
i'd say either event horizon, boogie nights or fight club"

haha, is this meant to be a serious thread?

anyway my favourite film at the moment is Stalker by
Tarkovsky.

the best recent film i've watched is Pitfall by Hiroshi
Teshigahara.
