I'm almost through reading a book by the excellent Colin Wilson, called Poltergeist! and despite its somewhat exuberant use of the exclaimation mark in the title, it is a very good study of the phenomena of phantoms, hauntings, poltergeists, multiple/split personalities, and curses. It has made me seriously reconsider my stance regarding the supernatural, although I have always had a favourable bias toward it, being a child of Romantic Imagination.
Anyway, what are your own views on the Supernatural? Do you believe they emanate from the human spirit or a discarnate spirit(s), or a combination of both? Maybe we have three spirits inside of us, the middle being our conscious self, the lower the immature spirit which in death becomes involved in poltergeist activity, and a higher self which is our guardian of the future.
BTW, this is a book recommendation. He also wrote, The Occult, which I mentioned several moons ago.

Sounds like FREUDS concept of Id, Ego, Super Ego to me ? The Id, the essentially biological element is constantly trying to kill the Ego

I can't be enitrely convinced by supernatural things; i think there is always an explaination, and that its people wanting to believe something so much that they convince themselves that it must be supernatural.
I remain pretty open-mided as the subjet does interest me, yet lately Derren Brown has completely explained the phenomena away for me.
Did anyone see when he pretended to be a spiritualist, in front of a live american audience? It was amazing; just like those shows on uk living. He would say things like "I've got someone called Pete with me, he has dark hair..." And someone from the audience would break down and be like "OMG.. Pete" and then he would just ask general questions and act as a medium. The reason he was always 'right' was because the relative always WANTED to believe...

no i don't believe in it. my mother is an addict follower of all esoterics and says there are miracles but i don't see them. she says her friends levitate on their seminars. i ask: what does it look like? I get the answer: they sit on the floor, "lotus pose", eyes closed, and they start to heavily shiver. I ask: do they leave the surface in vertical direction? i get answer: no, one should be very advanced to be able to fly. Of course, she says that instructors can fly, but she has never seen it. She just BELIEVES. She is an instructor herself - she can't fly, i bet. She is a normal middle-aged woman. She's into these sciences for many years now, i wonder when do people start calling themselvesadvanced. after several hundred years of practicing? when they continue to practice in their graves with worms?

i'd like to believe that there is something in our world, or existence, that we can't understand - but can at least try to understand. Perhaps if more people did they wouldn't bother bickering about so many insignificant material things.
Monoid mentioned Freud, and i was always sympathetic to his views when i studied psychology - even though the rest of my class dismissed it as non-scientific and unlogical. Perhaps 'supernatural' has it's own 'logical' boundaries and not just those defined by our definition of 'natural'.
unfortunately, my view on supernatural happenings is a more fickle than a football fan's view of his/her failing football team.

Uh, "the supernatural" is a pretty big area so i can't really answer that one. I've known a couple of people who've been heavily immersed in certain bits (kirlian photography, remote viewing, astral projection) though, and both of them freaked me out a bit.
Some bits sound quite persuasive, some bits sound like total nonsense. I dunno.

Yes. I spent so many hours up in the graveyard ghost hunting and stuff, you see what I seen, you start to believe. And I think there's some sort of amazing endoplasm inside of us. But I can't even begin to hypothesize, it's just too amazing. I'll find out someday.

cats have a 6th sense where they can "taste" smells. you'll see this when a cat is curiously sniffing something and when it looks away it's mouth is dropped open like "uhhh." it has sensory nerves on the roof of its mouth. this is pretty much totally unrelated to this topic.

When I was really young (we're talking late 70's here) I had this book called "Strange Unsolved Mysteries" which told true stories such as "the wandering coffins of Barbados" where coffins in a crypt of some family were always shifted about "as if thrown by a giant" each time one of the family died and they had to open it up.
And the story of the ring the Rudolf Valentino owned that was cursed. Or maybe it was a car. There was a story about a car that kept starting by itself and rolling over people. Even in bits it was cursed.
And the story of the hill in Oregon where gravity moves upwards.
And many other stories. I used to believe all of that stuff. Those stories still gives me shivers thinking about them now. I still have that book somewhere. Hidden so I don't see it.
