i listened to them....and you know what i liked what i heard
but there was one problem, i totally didnt care about it.. i
mean its lushously produced and everything, but i cant get
into anymore, still ep was so stunning, he could never top
that. i really like the last track though, very chilled
out, i might still buy this though...i dont know, maybe
after i illegally download it, i will buy it.

initially a lot of the songs sounded rather cheesy but on
the 4th or so listen to these teasers, i can see this is
going to be a pretty fucking solid album.

some of the lyrics are corny as hell, but it is nin - it
somehow just works.

gah, may is /way/ too long to wait for this. two fucking
months! jesus.

i'm sure it will leak before then, 2 high quality track have
already leaked.

definately looking forward to it more after hearing those
samples.

'every day is exactly the same' and 'only' sound so good.

cheers "a guest" for the teaser. After those I'm very
interested in the album, tracks which feature the lyrics
"every day is exactly the same", "omni" "there is no you,
only me" are great :), get ready to recieve my moolah trent

what the hell is up with those lyrics, man? "cold black
heart"? give me a fucking break. this is the worst ever.
i don't even want to hear any more of this album now. i
just want to pretend nin quit music and they're not a band
anymore.

heard The Hand that Feeds today - radio. now that it has
some bass to it, a bit poppy, but not bad. i'll probably get
sick of it later but now its fine.

"can you realy listen to any mainstream rock music and say
that NIN doesn't compare favourably? "

current mainstream rock? i have no idea. i assume that
mainstream rock is still as shit as it has been all along
since kurt cobain died. so on that premise, why would it be
positive at all to be compared to mainstream rock? i don't
think it is positive at all and unfortunately, i think this
song fits in with it perfectly. it sounds like all the same
shit that's on the radio. that isn't a good thing.

i thought the "stripped down" concept was going to be heavy,
rhythmatic, churning, stuff... that's what i was imagining.
frankly, this is the furthest thing from what i had
imagined the new stuff would sound like. it isn't "nin raw
rock and roll" - it's some glossy emo bullshit.

lol, after all this talk about modular synths etc, how dare
he come out with a guitar record hehe.

Points: 14210 Status: Regular | Followup to mimi: #01536737

:) i'm not an elitist... if he made a record with only
synths, it might be fine - who could say? personally, i
would never be prejudiced by instrumentation...

Points: 5721 Status: Regular | Followup to r40f: #01536739

well, this isn't me being an elitist. what's the purpose of
being all showy (he talks about it on access, there are
photographs of the stuff all over his site) about the gear
he's using on the record if you can't even hear it? judging
from the songs and clips i've heard, of course.

oh, i didn't mean to insinuate anything about you. i wasn't
trying to say anything like that...

i agree with you, really. i don't know what all that fancy
stuff is for. if he had recorded this on a four-track tape
recorder, it would probably sound way better. :)

probably just cause it looks cool and maybe people expect it
from him.

offline r40f from qrters tea party on 2005-03-17 21:13 [#01536748]

i think he is making decisions to make his music the most
accessible rather than the best art. and of course that
involves slick, self-indulgent rockstar production values to
steamroll any semblance of actual edge or rawness inherent
in most great rock music.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-03-17 21:15 [#01536749]

personally i don't see what you hear in his old records that
is so good. this really bugs me :-)

Points: 5721 Status: Regular | Followup to tolstoyed: #01536749

you're probably too old to understand, haha. don't take
offense, just his music is a lot on the juvenile side, and
since i kind of grew up with it, it just doesn't bother me.

you have to first accept that heavy metal is inherently
stupid. ignore the lyrics and enjoy the riffs. then
eventually you realize that it isn't as stupid as you once
thought, or even if it is stupid, it's ok.

now replace "heavy metal" with "pop" and repeat. now you
like nine inch nails.

:D

that is the only reasonable explanation :)
i've downloaded a bunch of albums you all recommended but i
couldn't listen to either of his songs from start to
finish..just total blank..i haven't deleted them yet though,
im still willing to try it out a bit more :)

I gotta say that "the hand that feeds" certainly sounds the
most commercial track from what I've heard so far, (what a
relief)
