"can you realy listen to any mainstream rock music and say
that NIN doesn't compare favourably?"

No the point is that this NIN does sound like any other
mainstream rock. That's the point. Pure shit.

just because it's perhaps slightly better than mainstream
rock (which I don't think it is - to me it sounds like
mainstream rock) doesn't make it a better record anyway.

perhaps comparing it to eurohouse from the '90s will make it
a better record?

what annoys me most about "the hand that feeds" - how many
words can you find that end on "eeds".

whatever, its only one track... and a single at that, the
samples of the whole album give a better impression

i'm starting to think that there's a possibility, an
off-chance that perhaps you just don't like nine inch nails?

at the end of some particular track (i get real nervous and
i can't finish any songs so i don't know how they end) or
the last song that seem to have no vocals? and yes, im
starting to think i don't really like it..

the instrumentals are kind of pompous though, even though
they're supposed to be "still".

pantalaimon i love still, i like most of trents stuff. but
when i heard this i nearly vomitted. i like the fact that
he changes styles every album...roughly...and this 'change'
is for the worst. 'with teeth'= pop/radio friendly songs.
i feel insulted as a fan that he'd release something as
shitty as this.

I was also hoping that everything that was leaked was fake
tracks to throw people off, but according to the official
nin site, they're actually real tracks and i'm no longer a
nin fan. FUCK YOU TRENT, you DOUCHE

no, no - his radical change is a reflection of his
polarizing artistry and we, as fans of his earlier work,
must embrace his changes as he grows as an artist. hahahaha

it.

that's about it. he owes me nothing.

As far as Still goes, I thought it was some of his most
whiney and melodramatic work to date. I liked some parts
here and there, but the one song with lyrics sounded like
Stabbing Westward. Crap.

still took me a while to get into, by the way, so keep at
it.

the pieces on that album are brilliant, definitely, but it's
far from my favourite nin. they're hard to compare, though,
really.

the production in that clip is fucking awful, actually (if
you're referring to 'the hand that feeds'); i'm really,
really surprised. the nin dvd, which they supposedly did,
was fucking brilliant.

offline xf from Australia on 2005-03-19 00:15 [#01537711]

i mean, jesus - i really /hope/ the movement tearing in the
video is some intentional (stupid) effect and not them
having no clue how to avoid it, and what's with the digital
panning and zooming? it looks like a fucking 12 year old
did it.

depends what the clip was for. if it was a quick clip to
give to their fans, great, i'm happy with it, and it gives
some interesting insight to the gear they use, etc. if it
_is_ the actual music video, boo.

the line begins to blur is a brilliant song; it definitely
grows on you - keep having to listen to it although i'm
trying to avoid getting too familiar with the tracks before
the thing is actually released. definitely fits in nicely
with nin's previous great works.

like the kind of music they play in a club in metropolis on
smallville. hahahahahhaah. oh trent. hahahah.

Okay while I agree that it's shit;
if you are 'offended' as a 'fan', then you should get your
head out of your ass and get your priorities straight.

I just have a hard time buying into any of his lyrics these
days. the shallowness of them turns me off bigtime.

I cut him a lot of slack on TDS because I think that's more
of him telling a narrative of someone else descending into
depression. Whereas, on The Fragile, and it looks like With
Teeth is going to be the same thing, he's just whining about
himself.. which gets tedious imo.

offline jenf from Toronto (Canada) on 2005-03-19 09:48 [#01537963]

well it's interesting b/c his lyrics and music (or at least
it did in the past) follow the early onsets of
ebm-industrial. and if you listen to the ebm crap they play
now in clubs, it's even tackier. it's like a genre of whimpy
goth pop.

but a good period of early ebm-type stuff he made was
probably on pretty hate machine. listening to that now,
after having listened to it in high school back in the early
90s, i realize how ebm-ish it actually is (but in a good
way).

although i don't dislike nin, i think that the period during
downward spiral and even before that on some albums, he did
a lot more soundscape experimentation - now it's just guitar
and drums and ASS synths and whatever the hell else makes a
song sound like a commercial.

anyway, since i haven't heard the entire with teeth, im not
at liberty to judge the album as a whole.. but hand that
feeds is just uhh.. yeah...*cough*.. has a certain je ne
sais quois.. :)

what are you talking about? what parts of his music sound
remotely like early industrial? pretty hate machine
incorporates about 0% industrial music - it's synthpop
influenced by skinny puppy with rapping and sounds like
peter gabriel.

so honestly, what industrial music are you talking about?

offline jenf from Toronto (Canada) on 2005-03-19 10:43 [#01538015]

ebm-industrial = synthpop. not the industrial that you're
probably thinking of. yeah it's synthpop but i forgot the
name and just remembered ebm-industrial. but yeah i dont
mean the type of industrial that you are probably thinking
of :)

i get the impression he can't be arsed doing as much as he
used to these days.
