when i got the remix album, i didn't like the fragile at
all. but i instantly loved the remixes (with the exception
of the starfuckers remixes - that's easily the worst song on
either album). the telefon tel aviv one, the wretched remix
- those tracks are flawless, imo. but after i gave the
fragile a second chance, i was really glad i did. i think
it's a fantastic album. not perfect, but really good
anyway. if you give tf another shot, try starting with the
second disc - it's better overall, i think.

i can't find still, is fragile any good? or the downward
spiral?

i think so, but i have no idea if you'd like them or not.

well, i'll give them a listen..it can't hurt :)

the problem i have with this sort of music is that it sounds
a bit childish, like one out of many pop bands, playing
something for the angry teenagers but it get's a bit sill
when you're getting close to 30..i would probably really
like it if i could get those thoughts out of my head..

well, i don't know about all that. maybe it's true... i
guess it is - they are goth rock stars. but i guess i just
don't care.

there's stupidity in lots of great music - it's all
relative. i wonder what people would say about nin if they
didn't have cheesy lyrics.

do i think he's becoming excessively arrogant and full of
shit? yeah, i do. does that mean his new album
automatically sucks? not necessarily. i'll wait until i've
heard the cd before i pass judgement on it.

these guys are nuts.

if you wanna know if you like NIN, listen to 'the downward
spiral'. that's the only way you'll know.

tolstoyed: I think I know what tracks you would like...
first listen to 'Leaving Hope', then 'Adrift and at Peace'
and 'Gone, Still'.

Those are all from the album Still and are reccomended
because of your love of Susumu Yokota, I think these kind of
tracks you would like best. They are some of his best work
and are superb instrumentals, especially Leving Hope, i'm
pretty certain you would like that.

I think anyones opinion of NIN would change after listening
to a few tracks off stil.

i think that goes without saying, but we are talking about
the new nin, not the good nin from back in the day :)

r40f i went from loving the fragile to hating it - go
figure, i would give the music a strong thumbs up and the
lyrics a big fat thumbs down, she should really only do
instrumentals or something, so bogus

in my opinion Still is better than anything he has done
before it, its a much more mature record and the
instrumentals are outstanding.

Still is good but it's not representative of NIN's body of
work at all.

"Still is good but it's not representative of NIN's body of
work at all."

yes but its a side of NIN that some may appreciate more than
the usual NIN.

i like the line begins to blur. it's cheesy and stuff, but
whatev. just because trent reznor is stupid doesnt mean his
music has to be bad too.

be elitist.

the downward spiral to put it in perspective was released in
94, and is mostly electronic - its got some classic stuff on
it, might be too agressive for you now being you
know....old, *ducks

therefore im getting several albums :) i go an compilation
of traditional music from nepal today, so it may not be the
best time for me to be getting into nin..

i will run down the list of tracks from downward.. that i
think you will like:

1. Mr. Self Destruct skip
2. Piggy give it a listen, you might like it
3. Heresy not the usual nin, aggression, but worth a
listen
4. March Of The Pigs skip
5. Closer you may know this one already
6. Ruiner give it a listen, you might like it
7. The Becoming very good track, chilled out and hard at
the same time
8. I Do Not Want This good in some places week in others
9. Big Man With A Gun skip
10. A Warm Place best track on this album, definitly give
this a try
11. Eraser skip
12. Reptile skip, but you may like it
13. The Downward Spiral skip, ditto
14. Hurt you may know this one too.

there you go

tolstoyed, you should download Sin from Pretty Hate Machine,
you would probably like it! also, Ruiner from TDS is
fantastic.

Getting smaller is ok, not as good as The Line Begins To
Blur though...

i never like broken, but its got some really good stuff on
it, but not really my cup of tea, im more of a pretty hate
machine, downward spiral kind of guy. the fragile has its
moments as well, and well the perfect drug was absolutely
horrible, that marked the downfall of nin for me. but
natural born killers soundtrack was a+ - so all in all trent
is very hit or miss, i wouldnt be surprised if this new one
is a total miss, with a name like with teath, you know he is
at least trying to be bringing it back to the broken
aggression, but trent has made some beautiful stuff imo, he
should try to take his time and put out something beautiful,
verses angry.

oh well, in that case, i guess we just have much different
taste in nin. :)

because broken is my favorite overall and the perfect drug
is one of my favorite nin tracks.

yeah, oh well - thats cool though - broken is good, just
never stuck with me, i own it and everything - i really like
it, but not on the same level as downward spiral for me, i
really like fixed too

he might like the first few minutes of "eraser". that has a
nice build.

and in NO way is "in a warm place" the best track on that
album.

even within his work of instrumentals I think it's pretty
poor.
