it can be a silly question,
but,
im courious about howdyou organize your album collection?
aleatoriasfdas, chronological order, alphabetical by
artists, by labels... etc?

i was boring the other day while studing and i organize them
in a chromatic order: two towers, one for colour
(yorpbggrey) and another for black and white... that is
really beautiful, and give the albums a estetic function
which artwork deserve...

so?

Not much rhyme or reason, though I rarely touch my CDs
anymore anyway. They're sort of loosely arranged by
'favorite to least favorite'... all my favorites are in my
horizontal racks (the kind in a music store, flipping
through discs), and the best artists go up front. The
''least best'' bringing up the rear. Anything I don't listen
to much gets stuffed in my vertical racks in very crude
fashion, just grouped by artist.

My system basically revolves around my last-listened albums
being closest to my hands. Everything else is just
chaos i tell you.

Genres are too hard to organise these days. I strip my mp3's
of their genre tags.

jazz, so it works out...

alphabetical by artist's moniker. then chronological. then i
go with collaborations of any sort. alphabetical as well.
then i go with compilations, alphabetically arranged by
label, then chronologically.

alphabetical stands even if the moniker is by the same
living being. for example, aphex twin and afx are seperate.

i keep them in the order i bought them. that way anything
new i get is simply added to the end of the pile.

i also have a special little pile for cds i didnt want, eg
cds bought for me by other people that i didnt ask for, cds
that come free with magazines/other cds. but anything that
i buy get put in the main pile, no matter how much i
hate it.

What's the best way to store/stack/arrange vinyl? I have
them sitting on a shelf vertically, much like books. Are
wire racks a good idea or not? Any other solutions? What's
the best idea?

My album collection gets very messy and unorganized over
months, it's actually fun for me to reorganize them when the
time comes. From left to right-
movie soundtracks, anime soundtracks, video game
soundtracks, rock/alternative/trip hop, electronica.
