Can you think of anything worse than this?

Apparently the video shows you the whole thing, but I don't
want to see it.

The fact that she was born on an army base is what's so
disconcerting to me.

well, she definatly won't have the same 'tough' struggles
the majority people live with. i mean, it seems she'll live
her life playing and being with her family. i doubt she'll
be aware of how 'strange' we all see her situation as.

yeah, that should be very awesome for her. to not be allowed
to get out of the house.

offline Atli from Reykjavík (Iceland) on 2004-12-16 11:15 [#01427664]

i think she'll spend most of her life thinking how it could
have been if she had had a normal face.

thinking about how sad it was.

i didn't say it'd be awesome for her. i said it'd be easy.
easy doesn't mean awesome.

she seems happy though. if you watched the video. she's
young and doesn't know how cruel the human race is yet. and
hopefully she won't.. but she seems to be getting a lot of
love.

holy shit. °_°

when i read "without a face", i was imagining... you know,
just a blank polished face without eyes nor nose nor mouth,
like in some drawings... but just seeing a part of this
"face" on the first picture of the article - oh dear -_-

i don't even see whether it's a mistake or not to let her
alive.

I think it would be anything but easy...

And about her looking happy... she's two! Her awareness of
her situation will go up as she gets older

They do all sorts of scans when you have a baby, you can see
the kid's face, I'm sure they'd have noticed it was more of
a problem than a "hare lip". I'm not saying anything other
than, how come they didn't know until she was actually born?

There will be easy aspects to her life... she'll be given
certain concessions. But that won't make up for the fact
that she'll be a, quote unquote, ''hideous freak''. She'll
be made fun of. The majority of humans have a strong desire
to belong, and she never will.

Thank God she can't see...

(she can't see, right?)

It makes you realise how lucky you are.

well if she's raised thinking she can only belong with her
non-existant good looks.

but her family and friends all seem to be very loving and
will more than likely teach her a deeper love.

i don't know. i think it's awful.. but it doesn't have to
be.

Yeah, before I finished my post, realized it just mentioned
no EYE SOCKETS... well don't that just beat all. If there
was ever a time to be born blind, this is it. What a raw
deal.

Hopefully doctors can do something surprising.

Good points, maybe I'm pessimistic, nature vs nurture. I'm
sure her family will do everything they can for her, but
I've never bought into those pretty pictures 20/20 and the
Discovery Channel paint about people that deal with horrible
disfigurements/disabilties like these. They're making the
best of a bad situation and diong well all things
considered, but the situation is still BAD.

I hope you're right though.

um.. i think it could.

i mean, atleast she was BORN that way, and didn't become
like that later in her life.

i mean, there's a big difference when you're born a certain
way then if you were to become so extremely limited.

She's not a vegetable for christ's sake. She has a loving
family who appreciates and adores her, we can all only hope
for so much. The article doesn't mention any mental
impairments. She plays and laughs now because she is only a
toddler, and if it weren't for the loads of people who will
constantly remind her that her face is "abnormal" everyday,
if she could just live surrounded by those who love her,
she'd be fine. The article touched vaguely on her
difficulty eating or breathing; hopefully these could be
improved by surgery.
