i'm retarded and i was wondering just how did you folks go
about making these remixes. i mean did you just add shit
overtop of a certain song??? or how did you get the
individual instruments seperated??? i'm new at this 'remix'

I pulled it apart completely and made new samples out of it.

its all you can do really, is pull apart hits and loops and
whatever, re arrange etc. though you can isolate some
interesting parts by stereo inversion, which decided not to
do after a certain point in my remix

overall, i didnt want to take samples and...well, glitch
them up so much that the original song wasnt clear. even if
you hear elements of the song, i think its good.

but im not a fan of, say, granulating the shit out of every
sample, isolating one wave cycle, repeating and then wave
shaping them into kick drums and noise snares and "tones"
and all that nonsense, to build a new song out of it. cool
song it may be, but id rather hear elements of the original
thoughout. maintaining autechres "voice", while expressing
your own. though, overall, if its good its good. guess i
wont complain too much.

and yeah, that doesnt really have anything to do with
anything.

yes

though i guess you could do vocal acapella versions of ae
songs.

guess it depends eh.

id like to hear a vocal rendtion of bine.

if there's another remix contest I'd definately do an
acapella version of a BOC track

me and a friend are preparing to record an acapella version
of "gantz graf".

Dude I totally did an acapella bine for someone else to
remix for this contest. He didn't end up doing anything with
my 30 seconds of spittle-laden sucking noises, but I
mean....his loss.

And I agree with you on the style of the remix, ya gotta
keep it at least recognizable.

My idea is to work from the ideas and inspiration that you
get from a certain track - not sample it, only mentally
perhaps.

offline Nate Tarrant from N8 Land (United States) on 2003-06-13 16:04 [#00739682]
Points: 36 Status: Lurker

one of my mixes is completely unrecognizable, but 90 percent
of it came from the original track. My other track is very
recognizable. Both are good, and you can tell both of them
were inspired by autechre, so...yeah, theres merit to both
styles of remixing and both have different diffuculties and
rewards. But either way, if its good its good.

Is there any idea how long all of the songs will be
available for download?

I'd love to hear them, but will be on a holiday for about 5
weeks....

Also: in which form will the songs be available? One file,
or all separate?
