I changed my mind - there is a God and his son and our
saviour is Jesus Christ.

I'm so happy that Jesus is in my heart that I'm going to
share him with everyone!

Do you know the good news about Jesus?

Dude!

I appreciate that you're pretty reasonable on separation of
church and state and all that. A lot of religious people are
not...

It's like this: I have a real fear that the world is drifing
towards warring theocracies, with Islamic totalitarianism
and redneck Christian totalitarianism in the US.

I want to make Canada a safe haven for atheists to shoot
hard drugs and eat the tender flesh of babies.

Lets define God shall we? God = perfection does IT not? (I
will refer to God as IT because thats exactly what IT is.)

What is Perfection? Balance. Total balance, with nothing
more important than anything else. This is our universe. A
perfect balance, no point in the universe is favored among
any other point, all points are equal as the universe
functions everywhere at once. Sadly humans think that some
things are more important than others, money and religion
are two big ones. This throws things out of balance, how?
Thoughts become actions, and actions have effects. Now
because things aren't balanced we have sorrow, anger, hate,
lust, greed, etc...

So I guess my point is, humanity needs to rebalance itself
and Christianity (or any other organized religion) will not
solve this problem, because these organized religions favor
certain things over others.

i have no beef with religion or religious people...

...but it is not unreasonable to predict that religion will
become obsolete in a matter of time.

i was born in a world with the word 'God' in full use, so i
realized a definition for it: the self.

a human being is composed of a body, a mind, and a soul. the
soul is simply all life - the entire entity that creates us.
our minds are formed and developed by it, and our bodies
function with our mind.

like the foundation of most religions, that from one source
all things depend (Mankind --> the Cosmos --> God), we exist
- a body, based on a mind, based on a soul, or The soul, or
Life. our selves are each of our existences.

religion is a way of understanding this existence in the
easiest way possible.

other way of discussing it, without using the word Balance.

How do you know that what you perceive as imbalance is not
just a counterweight on a scale too vast for you to
perceive?

offline weatheredstoner from same shit babes. (United States) on 2003-05-18 11:14 [#00703986]

Imabalance is a counterweight. Its a state of being when
Balance is not currently being achieved. You cannot have
balance without imbalance. You cannot have perfection
without imperfection.

i was watching a lonely playnet show about south states of
US - and there was something said about how they practice
their religion (it looked really scary)...btw, they were
baptists...anyway they showed how their ritual looks
like...it seemed like they were all in trance and they were
dancing with this rattle snakes and drinking their poison
(which is deadly btw), because they apperantly belive that
the snake or the poison wont hurt them because god is in
them...and the preacher looked pretty scary as well...
wicked stuff :)

You can drink rattlesnake venom as long as you have no cuts
in your mough or ulcers in your stomach. It's when it gets
directly into your bloodstream that it's harmful.

I think more Christians should be encouraged to handle
serpents!

I took the time to read over many of the posts on this
thread, although I regret not being around before. Let me
say upfront that I am a christian, although I have not
always been. I do not believe that faith is a blind leap in
the dark, but is based on evidence. At a point in time I
was probably as skeptical if not hostile to christianity as
many of you are. I can now proudly say that I love the Lord
with all my mind, heart and spirit and that no one
brainwashed me into believing this. Although it was not
evidence that initially brought me to Christ it is evidence
that has strengthened my belief it it's truth. I want to
take the time to read over some of the previous posts and
see if I can address some of your questions, issues,
complaints etc. If anyone has anything they want to ask
about christianity please ask and if I don't know the answer
I will find it out for you.

Aside from my rude comments, I'd like to state that I think
way too many people take themselves way to seriously.
Meanwhile humanity is so fucked at the moment... we could be
fixing it, but everyone is trying to find religion, forcing
their beliefs upon others, getting greedy, lying to their
children, etc... People need to lighten up about their
beliefs: You have to admit, no matter what your belief is,
beliefs are really silly, and should be accepted for what
they are, beliefs. Just because you believe something
doesn't make it true, it just makes it real... for you...
and thats the only person that matters when it comes to
religion.

issue one: science and christianity do not go hand in hand.

Actually out of all of the holy books the bible is the one
book that is able to make statements about the universe that
can only be verified in modern times by science. For
instance the bible claims that God 'stretches forth the
heavens.' Interestingly enough the universe is expanding so
this statement is accurate. Also the bible claims that the
early earth was composed entirely of water, so does science.
Isaiah says the God has "hung the earth over nothing" .. so
much for a flat earth. God asks Job is He knows the 'way'
in which light exists. Interestingly enough light does
exist in a 'way' rather than a 'place'.

Jesus died as a sin offering for huminity. He lived the

everyone has sinned. God, in his love, offers a way out.

BTW the serpent handling thing comes from Acts where the
apostle Paul is bitten by a venemous serpent and
miraculously does not die. The idea that this should be
some sort of ritual is ridiculous.

Um "hung the earth over nothing" doesn't mean the earth was
round.

A perfect God doesn't need to ask questions. He knows
everything.

Isn't it also true that Bible has been burned, edited, and
gone changes through so many different languages, over so
many thousands of years... that maybe, just maybe, the
original meaning of the Bible has been lost over time?

Jesus died because he was nailed to some 2 by 4. Whatch me
now, here I go:

Weatheredstoner died as a sin offering for humanity. He
lived the perfect life (smoking weed and listening to music
all the time) in our because we could not, and then took on
sin in our place.

See anyone can die for humanity, and the requirements are
real simple: you have to be mortal.

If God created everything, he created Satan also. Yet the
Bible states that the CHRISTIAN GOD is good. Obviously we
can see he is not ENTIRELY GOOD. Again the Bible is in error
because a perfect God has a perfect balance of Good and
Evil.

Everyone deserves hell because
everyone has sinned. God, in his love, offers a way out.

Every action has a reaction. Which science has also proven.
Which is another argument for a perfect balance God, which
the Bible clearly does not want, they want their God to be
only GOOD.

have to do is ask God into your heart...

Issue two: if God is all good and all powerful, how can He
let evil, sickness death etc. in the world.

We live in a world that is cursed because of Adams sin,
therefore sickness and death are allowed as part of the
natural order of things. God has ordained the placement and
circumstances of all people so that they should seek Him,
although many rebel. The presence of evil, sickness and
death should be a constant reminder to people that they
cannot save themselves in any sense of the word. Therefore
we look to Him because through Him death has no power over
us and we will be raised gloriously into a world where there
will be no evil, sickness or death. Those who reject his
love will be raised into a world where there will be only
evil, sickness and death, and those things which God gives
you, but perhaps you take for granted, such as love,
happiness, peace etc. will be no more. In other words in
this life there is a little bit of both heaven and hell. By
accepting or rejecting Christ we decide what we will inherit
for all eternity.

I have to sign off for now but I hope to pick this up later.

BTW the manuscript evidence we have for the Bible is
excellent, and has been extremely well preserved. Yes,
there are many different translations, but that only gives
us a stronger base for understanding what the bible says
because they do not contradict one another, but only maybe
say it in a different style which lends to a broader
understanding of the text. Anyway, bbl.

"Issue two: if God is all good and all powerful, how can He

and about this, why does God get the blame for it? God gave
mankind their own free will... we make our own choices, thus
I personally believe that all the suffering in the world is
not God's fault, but our own... we kill our own kind, we
steal, new technology that we have discovered is destroying
the world, blah blah blah... but, God is there to help...
and again I say, all you need to do is ask...

I would like to know, quite seriously, when the last time
was that ANY biblical-literalist-creationist won a Nobel
prize in ANY field. Also, has anyone ever won for any work
that patently supports a major creationist principle, as
opposed to the "evolutionary" view of the nature of the
world?
Science produces fact.
The Bible, is just a book.

Evolution is far from scientific fact. I would say that it
more closely resembles propaganda. Where are the
transitionary forms in the fossil record? How do we explain
convergence? What about biological systems where there is a
codependancy on two or more different traits that could not
exist without each other and could only exist having been
brought about at the same time?
