hm... i never really enjoyed that fishing-game. Never did
understand why everyone was always so enthusiastic about it.
I just thought it was incredibly boring and frustrating :-p
I'm glad it didn't make it into the windwaker.

The ending is pretty great eh, jaroen? I like the way you're
not just rescueing a princess as in previous zelda's.
Windwakers story was certainly alot more intruiging. A nice
melancholic and open ending :-)

Erik, I received your package yesterday. Euphoric! My
computer should be up and running by the end of the week -
Hopefully his thread will be happily bobbing at the top of
the message board again soon. If nothing else I'll try and
get an e-mail to you by the end of the week.

Jayforks - More on your lack of artistic sensibility to
come.

Hey! Good to hear it got to you safely :-) I was a bit
worried... supposedly these packages are handled rather
roughly during oversea travels. I was afraid they'd fold it
or whatever.

"Euphoric!"

Jay! :-D

But okay, take your time. I hope everything works out with
your computer. I'm currently in the first week of a
three-week holiday. So i've plenty of time to check the
board and paint and whatnot... hm... this is definitly the
good life!

haha, im so far behind in this game, i dont even remember
where im at but i dont know what to do, the boat guy says
something about talking to people on the islands to find out
how to gain access to these three places or something along
those lines.

Zelda 1- 80
Zelda 2- 60
Zelda 3- 95
Link's Awakening- 85
Ocarina of Time- 94
Majora's Mask- ....haven't played it yet... :-/
Wind Waker- 90

And that's the way it is.

The incessant item collection late in this game is pretty
tedious, but other than that, I actually didn't mind the
sailing as much as I thought I would. I should finish this
before the weekend, and I'll probably play it again soon...
and that's a big plus, I RARELY replay long games
nowadays... I don't think I've done that since Metal Gear
Solid 2 almost 2 years ago.

In other news, the GBA Earthbound game got a sparkly wicked
mega awesome review from the world famous Famitsu, Platinum
Award... oh baby. Only FF6, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
are better than that sucker, I'm tellin' ya.

earthbound on GBA? sweet, is it just a remake\port update
like the marios and everything?

Just a port... which is JUST the way it should be. I DON'T
want another Earthbound, it's already one of a kind (two of
a kind if you count the almost as cool first Mother game).

In 2050, I want to look back at Earthbound as a wonderful
anomaly.

Only thing I'm worried about on the GBA is the music... I've
never heard a soundtrack quite like Keiichi Suzuki's work on
EB, but I don't think the GBA soundchip would do it
justice... uh oh.

"Zelda 3- 95
Link's Awakening- 85
Ocarina of Time- 94
"

Hm... it seems odd to give Link's Awakening 10 points less
than Zelda3. Ofcourse it is somewhat lacking in the graphics
department (and the sound-department). But it was such an
excellent game! According to you it is just slightly better
than Zelda1... totally unfair if you ask me :-p

About earthbound > good news! I've always been interested in
that game, but i don't think it ever quite made it too
europe. The GBA-version probably won't be released here
either, but atleast you can import USA GBA games and play
them over here too.

come out on gamecube.

The 95 for Link's Awakening may be a bit low, but I've never
beaten it! I'd say I only got halfway, so I can't really
judge. I should have put a disclaimer.

I haven't played Oracle of Ages or Seasons yet... what are
they like?

Update, it's looking less and less likely that Mother 1-2 is
even going to come out in the US... bad news, but it's to be
expected... games THAT intelligent usually go over American
gamers' heads.

Mother 3 is in development for the GBA, that's even MORE
exciting... but again, will it even survive the journey
overseas? Probably not. The N64 version barely even LOOKED
like a Mother game (other than the Mr. Saturns! I want to
squeeze them), but it DID look pretty good... I'd like to
see see the light of day.

Jesus fuck.

OK, I took a big break from this game for various reasons,
and I'm back, collecting the 8 shards. Totally unenjoyable.
Can't fucking stand it. Using the Wind Waker has become a
royal pain in the ass... MUST I sit through the animation
every FUCKING TIME?

I'm also incredibly annoyed at the sea battles... to get
what I want to get, I need to kill a lot of
sharks/cannons/boats/giant peahats or whatever they are, and
I'm so sick of being hit and then falling off my cocksucker
boat. Who thought of that idea? Fucking irritating. Just
makes the battles longer. Not harder. They have a skewered
view of what's fucking CHALLENGING.

I like exploring (though the islands are disapointingly
TINY) but I can't deal with this collection shit. I've been
to all these places before and enjoyed finding out what they
were and doing whatever it is I could do, now I'm not
interested in going back to certain places, but I have to.
This was a CHEAP way of prolonging the gameplay experience.
I don't know why they didn't put more dugneons into it,
maybe time restraints... but sailing these seas is a waste
of time when I could be utilizing the amazing engine they
crafted for this game for exploring another huge castle or
dungeon.

Thing is, it was even worse in Japan! They toned down the
item fetching because of bad feedback! Poor Japanese, man...

I think there's an item to keep the lights on the water on
when you get close to a treasure, I didn't find it yet. And
so, using my crane is a painfully annoying and extremely
UN-FUN experience. Wish it was more forgiving Not to mention
99% of the fucking things are Rupees.

What makes this all the more frustrating is I just beat the
two Sage dungeons, both of which were fantastic and totally
enjoyable and rewarding. Hardly wanted them to end.

This game, at its best, is perfect. Beautiful and a breeze
to play. But it's SO flawed and has so much untapped
potential. I also don't give a shit about upgrading, because
you don't NEED to... The game is a pu

And FUCK YOU for downsizing my message/

The game is a pushover, the only difficulties coming from
TEDIUM. What's the point of getting pieces of heart when
you're practically invincible anyway? Thus, extra
exploration isn't particularly rewarding.

Anyway, I'm sure once I finish this fucking collecting, I'll
be in a good mood again, be reminded why I bought this
otherwise stellar game, and regret this post.

Forget it, feeling better already... I was just stuck at
some part and my volatile temper was starting to bubble.

I still hate using the crane though. But I'm happy again.

"Thing is, it was even worse in Japan!"

heh, yeah i read that! You had to find (and have translated)
a map which had the location of another map, and that map
then had the location of the triforce-shard. A little over
the top.

For me that part of the game worked out pretty good. Since
it gave me a chance to finally do some real exploring and
see all the small islands and whatnot. Earlier in the game
the king of red lions is constantly rushing you to make
haste.

But if you had already explored all of the land before the
shards-part of the game, i can see how it might become a
little tedious i guess.

"the lights on the water on when you get close to a
treasure, I didn't find it yet. And so, using my crane is a
painfully annoying
"

Well are you actually listening to the game? Or just playing
it whilst listening to some other music? :-p
There's very clearly a sound (like a sacred choir or
something) when you're directly above a treasure. Using that
i only 'missed' the treasure with the crane 1 or 2 times
during the whole game.

I'll now be awaiting your complaints about the last dungeon
(which to be honest, i thought was a little dissapointing
myself).

The sound isn't helping me! I'll get to what SEEMS like the
loudest point, and then it won't be there... maybe it has
something to do with my mono speakers, I don't have a stereo
TV... I set the audio settings to mono thinking it might
help, it hasn't... maybe I have poor depth perception! I see
the light, I approach it, it vanishes, and then I can't line
myself up right, heh...

Well, all my complaining was just me being really pissed
off, I don't even mind the exploring all that much. I have a
big mouth when I get discombobulated, I say things I don't
mean.

But I'm repeatedly let down by the destinations, like that
Steel Tower thingy... man, I wished I could have explored
inside of it, climb some big stairs and fight a boss or
something, but all that was there was a chest... ''this is
almost too easy!''. No traps, no nothing. Bah. But I'm on
track again. I just need to practice my craning!

"I see the light, I approach it, it vanishes"

Okay but then you need to focus on those patterns on the
water. You must have noticed how it isn't just all blue, but
there are these cartoony lines across the water that make it
look like a real ocean. Just keep your eyes focussed on
where you see the ring of light, and sail to that part of
the water-line-pattern... you'll hear the sound and
well... you can't miss really :-p

It can be frustrating to pull up nothing but small rupees
though. It's like the entire ocean is now dampé's graveyard
;-) But somehow even at the end of the game seeing a ring of
light still got me excited. Such a sense of exploration!

"I wished I could have explored
inside of it, climb some big stairs and fight a boss or
something,
"

It's true... you can tell at certain parts of the game that
they had to rush to get it in the stores on time. I bet
during the first phase of design when they were just
throwing around ideas... that they had intended to make
things like the steel tower more ambitious. And have you
boarded the ghostship yet? Such a dissapointment :-(

I also bet fire- and ice-island were originally supposed to
be big and challenging dungeons. And then maybe also another
dungeon where you could find the 3rd of those crystal balls
(that is now just given to you by lord jabu jabu... i mean
jabun). Do you realise that would have made eight
dungeons? 8! The magic zelda-dungeons-number :-D

It's still a brilliant game though. Most definitely my
favourite zelda. The weeks i spent playing it were some of
the best videogame-experience weeks ever. I can't
wait to play the sequel :-D Maybe because they're using the
same engine, they'll have more time to focus on making the
game bigger...

Mario- only got about 30 Shines, never played again. It's a
good game... but like Epohs, that's a game I like watching
rather than playing... and I don't know why.

Metroid- yeesh, get off your butt. Metroid Prime 2 is
already on the way and Zero Mission is too. Strange, they
put out 3 Metroids in the space of like, 1 decade and a
half, and now the market is flooded with them. But I'm not
complaining.

Eternal Darkness- I got this for Christmas, but it's been
buried under a pile of games that are ahead of it in
urgency... good game though. I like Resident Evil a lot
more.

Zelda- beat it a monthish ago, was great... best looking
game ever, I loved the style. But I don't think I'll ever
play it again. They're working on the sequel already.

glasse and i also recently beat this game.

it was alot of fun, in my opinion one of the best zelda
games since the snes one or the gameboy ones.

glasse thought the ganon fight at the end was kinda lame...
i guess i sorta agree, i DID expect like some crazy
demon-pig type crap. he wasnt even really that hard.

we had a jar of granma's soup, a red chu jar, and 2 fairie
jars... and i only had to use one fairie jar (i bet i could
go without even that if i replayed him).

i mostly like how it looked. i love rain. and the outfit
ganon was wearing, how it moved in the wind. just looked
really cinematic to me.

but i agree, way too easy. but don't forget the giant
monster forms he took before the final showdown.

yeah, the puppet ganons were harder than the actual dude
himself.

i guess we DID get to fight the pig ganon, technically... it
had the pig-like face on it.

but yeah, the missions and the play control and stuff were
all top-notch. definitely my fav all-round zelda game so
far. it was more like the first one and the gameboy ones to
me.

Favorite part of the game was the sound the guys with the

It's a good game, but playing Zelda 3 for the first time in
a long time made it seem pretty slow and annoying. The
sailing... no, I'll never get used to it, I'll never enjoy
that stuff. I also felt consistently underwhelmed by the
exploration and easy difficulty. It's still a classic. I'm
nitpicking because I hold Nintendo games up to an insanely
high standard.

One thing remains constant... Koji Kondo is amazing. The
soundtrack is full of great tracks that I listen to all the
time, still.

to beat that part, you need to go to the graveyard. wait
until the final night, then use the captain's hat to make
the skeletons open the grave - go into it and direct Dampe
to dig up three beams of light - after you find them, a
ghost appears - defeat it and you learn the Song of Storms.

Now, head back to that Ikana Village with the mummies /
zombies and enter the cave just to the right / behing the
music house. Walk forward inside until someone attacks you.
Use the Song of Storms to defeat them, then the mummies
(Gibdos) disappear from the house. Sneak into it when the
girl is not looking, play the Song of Healing when you find
the guy in the house, and you get the Gibdo Mask. Wear it
and go down into the well, and the rest will explain
itself....

Wind Waker...aahh. I was pretty entranced when I first
played it, but once I beat it about three times I noticed
some things about it that disappointed me.

I have no problem with the graphics - they're gorgeous and I
wouldn't mind if they stayed that way (though I wouldn't
mind more realistic proportions on some NPCs). The camera
issues were addressed (thank fucking god), i'm glad it's
much more friendly and can be manipulated painlessly. Also,
the swordfighting - god I love it! I wish there would have
been characters more equal to Link in terms of swordplay
though - I mean the Knights were tough fellows, but once you
figured out how to deal with them, they were bags of winds.

The sailing is not too bad at all, it's just that... as much
as there was to do at sea, much of it was unrewarding. Like
those platforms - I searched every one of them and I think
two of them gave me something of worth.

And this game was EASY. Once you play Majora's Mask, beat
it, and come to this, you realize what a cakewalk it is.
Getting Heart Containers by finding Treasure Charts? I
remember in other Zelda games (especially Majora's Mask) you
had to do some DIFFICULT stuff to get Heart Containers. They
felt more like you earned them back then.

However, I did like the Spoils system - I hope it is in the
next game, and that every enemy has a totally different
spoil. Also the interactive environments are very nice.

All in all, this is not my favorite Zelda game, but it's not
my least favorite either.
