Asche XL, it's not too hard to get started. I'll assume you're on Windows. Get and install WinMX from www.winmx.com if you don't already have it. Answer all the setup questions - for your login name plug in the name I sent you by email. When WinMX is running, there are two main parts, the WinMX network, and the opennap networks. You can keep the WinMX network connected and running if you want, I recommend turning it off unless you want to search for mainstream music. We're interested in the opennap part. Under the opennap network section, you'll see a way to add a new opennap server. Enter all the information I gave you. This will add the server to your list. Right click on the server on list and choose "connect" Now you are connected to the server - you can search and download. If you go to the "chat" window, you should be able to find the "aphextwin.nu" chatroom where we hang out. Be sure to add your mp3 directories to the directories that WinMX shares with others. I don't actually have a copy of WinMX in front of me, if you have any specific questions maybe someone else can help you out here. Good luck! |

from the soulseek faq.... Q: How can I run my own server? A: To run a Soulseek server, you'll need a Linux box, preferrably on a fast connection. It's also recommended that you run a version of the Linux kernel of the 2.4.x series or later, to avoid having the server overuse the CPU (has to do with the way the poll() call is implemented). Download the server executable here, place it in a directory of its own and execute using: nohup ./server & To set the login message, create a file in the same directory named "message", and put the login message text in it. The server polls this file at startup and every few minutes. For people to see the server and be able to log onto it, it needs to be indexed. I haven't worked on a way to automate this yet, so just mail the name, description and DNS of your server to nirarbel@yifan.net and I'll add it to the index as soon as I get the email. |
