Probably because Soulseek is back up & running and looks
like it's gonna continue for the foreseeable future...

I'm still saving for cable so I'm on pretty limited
bandwidth for a while...but as soon as it arrives, I'll be
on 24/7 on IWs network...theres a few things I wouldn't
wanna share with everyone on SS but ok with just a select
cru...(and no, Meho, it's not porn :)..

And wouldn't it make a great way to work on stuff as a
group....like remixing each others stuff & passing it
around...I really liked that APHEXATION comp that some of
the .NUs made; maybe VOL II could be created on IW's
network....just an idea really...

and IW...I'll get back to you on that email...catching up
with a ton at the mo...

Wow, this old topic ...

ka, I need a way to contact you by email. There are a couple
requirements to get in but it shouldn't be a problem for
most people. Please email me at the address in my profile
(click my name). Anyone else who wants an account should do
the same.

Your ftp server is great, except not everyone has access to
the uploads folder, where draft 7.30 was reported as being.

The topic is old but the server is still in operation.

elusive: I am running an opennap p2p server. If you ever
used Napster when it was around, this server works
essentially the same way, but it is a lot smaller, of
course.

You are able to share and search on any type of file and use
a chat system that is similar to IRC. There are a few
different clients that you can use to log into the server.
Most people use WinMX but there others for Mac OS X and
Linux.

Here is a snapshot of the server at this point in time:

Active Users: 11
Files: 51867 (378.8 GB)
Boot Time: Fri Nov 22 21:24:52 2002
Uptime: 72 days 22 hours 40 minutes 43 seconds

As you can see the server is very stable.

Access requires a user name and password which I will set up
for you if you email me.

The idea of using the system for things like the XLT quilt,

you'd better email inv. whale yourself
it's more easy for him, otherwise he still has to look at

it's in his account, i did it yesterday and he mailed me

I've been using Winmx to get into there, but it's giving me
a hassle, anytime I try to browse files or share mine, the
cockhead freezes on me. What are you guys using, if not
Winmx? I hate this program.

I think WinMX starts to bog down after around 7000 files or
so.

You could try xnap which seems to be working well
for some people. You'll need Java to run this. If you don't
have it you can get the JRE from here. Use the
first link on the page (JRE).

Yeah, but a window actually pops up and tells me all my
memory is spent and MAKES me close it.

I used to have to wait a half hour for SLSK to read all my
files, I know all about waiting. I guess I'll try Xnap,
thanks.

BTW Anyone know of any alternative clients than WinMX?...it
works fine for me but I'm not very fond of the borwsing
other users bit; anything similar to SS in this area?...

offline Inverted Whale from United States Minor Outlying Islands on 2003-02-05 23:34 [#00542835]

Browsing with WinMX is not great. It can get very slow with
a large list. One thing to try is the "Show Full Path"
button, and then click on the "File" tab to sort the paths
alphabetically.

If that still isn't good enough, then try xnap.
The browse interface is cleaner and it's also kinder to the
server because it can browse other people directly.

:(

'cause my provider doens't allow me to u/l stuff .. i could
use it to only download stuff, but that would be pretty
unfair imo, so i'll delete that whole winmx-thingy asap :(
