but look at the experience of labels like planet mu, a CD
that would sell 6000 copies 4 years ago will now sell only
3000, even though demand for IDM has gone pretty crazy.

and 3000 is borderline profit, ie anything above 3000 will
give the record company and artist about 2 per item

Hey quivvy : I read that mike p interview you copied and
pasted (illegally I might add) from spittoons and sabres
site. In it he doesn't say that it is downloading causing
loss of sales, he just says it is a possiblilty - "...who
knows" he says. There. Now shut up. If you can't support
yourself because people steal your produce, then get a job.

read what I said about people previewing & not liking what
they hear...

That would explain CD sales being down as well...

so it could be one or any of these things...as mike p know;
hence the "who knows?.."

mike p is right.

home taping didn't kill music, but file sharing will, and it
is definitely currently having a devastating effect on our
favourite 'underground' labels.

here's why:

1. home taping = you only copied one album for one person at
a time.

2. file sharing = you upload an album in minutes, and
thousands of people download it.

think about it.

oh smooth...you're Cylob now...

core: I've thought about it...and theres a dozen other
reasons beyond simple file sharing...I don't doubt that
sales are down but I don't feel it's file sharing on it's

chris - don't worry, you've had 10 years making money - now
you can have 60 years slowly dying and festering in poverty.
At least you don't have children to support like luke or

i mean REAL record stores are closing down. this is not
imganary so while people say that mp3s don't hurt the
industry explain why sales are down 12 percent in the last
2 years. many labels are on the verge of bankruptcy

small businesses of any kind always come and go. VERY few

them in a big portable CD carrying case ). after thousands
of $$ was stolen like that i just coudlnt' buy another one.
I used to buy them like crazy.
